Need help for title of a movie about a Polish family who comes to America

It was about a polish family who comes to america and the story mainly revolves around the young boy in the family. When he attends school and his troubles with speaking english. Also how he ends up leaving school to work for his family because his father had a serious accident at work and could not work anymore. great story

What is the time-frame of the plot?

I think I saw this on PBS in the late 70's early 80's but IIRC it was a lot shorter than a movie (or the scenes of the Polish family were shown as interludes of the main program, on immigration)

From what I remember, the movie took place during or after wwII. and the end of the film shows it in more recent time because it shows how the young boy sacrificed his life in education to work for his family to survive. The end shows the character when he is older spending time with his kids and other family members. It possibly could be a film played on pbs. not sure tho

thats not it. Its not factual, its more of a story and has only one plot to it. thanks tho
