Chick tunes???
I'm offended!LOL!!
Poles don't do Blues like Americans and Brits, but they do Metal really well.
This is about as close to what you and I call Blues to come out of Poland.
Especially for Joker and Dougpol1

Dzem are a huge classic Polish Rock and Blues band too.

Nalepa has been around for a long time too.But Polish Blues is pretty thin on the ground, Jazz was bigger and now
Metal and Rap are big.But I bet you didn't know of a big Reggae and Celtic Music scene in Poland!

Some Polish Hard Rock and Metal now.

youtu.be/iSne5sUHHJ4

Poles are very good at "Goth Metal":-)

I'll end with this one from Coma.....a band well worth investigating further.

@Miloslaw
Kasa Chorych were fabulous - until they sold out; a bit like Budka Suflera. The same old "Great R and B band goes Pop" syndrome. Criminal really. It's the way of the world - Dire Straits' first two albums were classics, and the rest were, well - shite relatively speaking.

So true, so many bands have been tempted by those dollar signs though.....Genesis springs to mind too......

The Dougpol Polish legendary rock bands ( in any order of preference, according to mood)

Dzem ( Ryszard Reidel - all else is total shite and to be avoided)
SBB
Tadeusz Nalepa and Breakout
Czesław Niemen 1970s

Ive seen this band at the Copernicus Center in Chicago, what a great time it was too! I don't know any of the songs, but girls were singing and dancing and what fun!!

It was a real Polska MILFest:)

The Copernicus Center has all kinds of genres from Poland and Classic Rock bands, its where I seen Zakk Wylde, Ywngie and Robin Trower and my 3 girlfriends Alizma:)

Genesis springs to mind too......

Are you talking about the British prog rock band with Peter Gabriel? This was an awesome band that I used to listen too all time in H.S.

Then Phil the "Kunt" Collins took over and ruined this band, sending them into a downward spiral towards the trash heap of history.

The Knife!! Remember this one? The lyrics seem more relevant now, than ever.......

What you're saying about the band entering a downward spiral right after Gabriel left is not entirely true. Most of their greatest hits are from the era after Gabriel when they became much more commercial.
Miloslaw 19 | 4,971
10 May 2019 #132
True.But you cannot equate commercial success with musical quality.

Well, avant-garde/ progressive music doesn't necessarily pay the bills long term. I stopped listening to them after "The Lamb Lies down on Broadway". Same thing happened to Pink Floyd. Everything that came after the "Animals" album was terribly commercial and - at least in my opinion - junk.
Miloslaw 19 | 4,971
10 May 2019 #134
Agreed on Floyd, "Animals" was my last album too.
I stuck with Genesis for a couple more after "Lamb", but gave up soon after that.

You like progressive/ guitar heavy music, right? Have you heard of these? First one is an old band from Poland, second one a really cool band from Brooklyn.

Jesus T'other - Exodus is a real barrel scraping band. Quite awful. No saving graces at all. And there is no bigger progressive rock fan than me living on my street :)
TheOther 6 | 3,667
10 May 2019 #137
My apologies... :)
Exodus were one of the very few East European bands I remember from my time on the continent. Together with the Hungarian band Omega and the East German band City. What do you think of Sweet Smoke?
Dougpol1 31 | 2,640

My apologies

Lol. Omega are well known. That song.

I agree with Doug,Exodus were at best average.
Omega from Hungary, along with Locomotiv GT were great bands and the video Doug posted was their "Stairway to Heaven" song.....absolutely brilliant.
As for the German based, but international band Sweet Smoke?
Love them...... they hold a special place in my heart from when I spent a lot of time in Alsace, where they were very popular in the late seventies.....and everyone smoked a lot......

"House of Cards" was the Omega song I had in mind.

Now then! Thumbs up smiley.
My guilty pleasure (on the student provided bimber tonite....)

Lucky that Mrs Dougpol is in Kato. She HATES Troubadurzy. Reminds her of communism:):)

their "Stairway to Heaven" song.....absolutely brilliant.

Your analogy is excellent Milo. Ever considered a second career as a critic?:)

Funny you should say that...... I ran one of London's major Rock Pirate Radio stations many years ago......
My posts tonight are not really for you Rockers,Joker,Doug and TheOther, I'm trying to spread the love of Polish Music to a wider audience..... although if Joker can hack it, my last post is for him.....although he may label my posts "Chick Music",he will love the last one...

So, some Polish pop Music, starting with a very old one;

youtu.be/FFNxAfy6dbY

This one shows you that Polish Music is not what you may expect;

I have great fun with some of these songs on my cheap Yamaha acoustic after a few sherbets. My (lack of ) vocal range matches these songs perfectly:)

Krzysztof Klenczon, the Polish McCartney! Derivative? Who cares?

Polish pop Music,

Czeslaw Nieman - pop? Not having that:):)
Seriously, you can't dismiss Nieman in such a vein. That guy was schmaltz, pop, rock, blues, classical, progressive.....Total crossover artist. He could do it all. Legend.
Miloslaw 19 | 4,971
10 May 2019 #146
He was exactly what you said.
A pure genius.
But I couldn't find a label for him......because he didn't have one.....

And we must never forget Teddy! Or is it pronounced "Taddy"?

@Miloslaw

Out of curiosity: how were you exposed to Polish rock music? Bands from east of the Iron Curtain were virtually unknown in the West until the mid/ late 70s.
Miloslaw 19 | 4,971
10 May 2019 #149
@TheOther

Mainly from Polish cousins, but one of my best friends at school was of Hungarian descent and he introduced me to a load too.
I just kept the interest up over the years because some East European Music is really good, some can be a bit quirky or cheesy, but I can suffer that to find the good stuff.

Czech Rock is really good too and some Slowak and even Russian is good.

This music should be made illegal:):) Unfair competition laws. It stands the test of time. And Mira was a babe:)
