Examples of popular Polish music?

2 Jan 2019 #91
Hello, any good Polish recommendations for pop/electropop music?
Like the ones that were popular in 2009-2014, i.e. Pharrel, Psy, Katy Perry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Drake, etc.?

Thanks to OneLove2011 for suggesting Robert M (Robert Maczynski)

Katy Perry

Sylwia Grzeszczak has a couplee nice songs and the Americans I have shown her videos to said she basically sounds like Pink - - there is an official video to the song but it is not available in America - don't know about Europe outside Poland

Hadn't heard of this band before Torq posted a link to them on another thread. Loved the song immediately on hearing it, so will definitely be listening to more of Percival:

UnSun, a Polish gothic metal band started by Maurycy "Mauser" Stefanowicz. I still have a Vader "Litany" album with Mauser's autograph on it. Had to wait for it a kilometre long line ;-)

Reidel gets me every time.
Also practically any Polish pop from the 60/70s - generally considered naff by music critics, but that's alright.

I'm not sure how popular this is (it's as far as I know very new) however there's something uniquely Polish about it, and also somehow compelling. From Kielce:

Kat,Dzem and Pod Buda are all very good.

Yeah! Pop music in communism had to be "jolly" in the same mode as "Yellow River" - as ordered by the central committee! Probably:)

IMHO probably the best Rock band in Poland right now.

So much great polish music,so little time.....

There is something very quirky and very Polish about Polish pop music.
Polish artists take Western music and add something very Polish.
This is good.

The sheer quality of Polish Rock and Polish pop music in general, never ceases to astound me.

This is amazing.......

OK,that's enough from me.
I'll end with an old school song, but hey, I am old school.
Over to you guys to show just how good Polish music is......

I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of rap/hiphop but there's one exception: Tadek :-)

I am not a great fan of rap music either, but I somehow find Polish Rap easier to listen to than others.
That was not a bad tune.
How about this.....this,for me, is certain parts of Poland in a nutshell......

Time to go home....:-)

I really don't want to be supercilious - Polish music is great - especially the blues and pop - but when Jozef Skrzek said that SBB ( who I love) were on a par with Pink Floyd and Yes, all I could do was snort.

Because English is an intonated language it lends itself best to a multitude of musical genres, and so British or American popular music led internationally along with the demographic facts of a greater buying public and a more secular society etc. Of course we all forgetting classical or jazz. Here of course there are no distinctions.

But, great as Breakout were, they were a derivative of Hendrix or Led Zeppelin. And so on. Czerwone Gitary or Trubadurzy on the other hand - Quintessentially Polish:)

My personal musical tastes are Hard Rock,Metal,Electric Blues and Prog Rock.
But I enjoy loads of other music too and I think this thread is important.
So I will continue to post to it with different styles of music, in the hope that you will post too.
I think this woman is an amazing Polish artist.

This song by Melia Koteluk is just so Polish that it brings tears to my eyes.....

My last post tonight.
OK, this band may not be Polish.
But SHE is.......and it is brilliant!

Akurat 'Do prostego człowieka'. The lyrics is actually a poem written by Tuwim in 1929 or so - still scarily contemporary.

I'll try to embed the video - but it seems after the initial 'success' embedded videos turn into mere links after a while; )

As for stachursky, his latest thing is 'Doskozzza'.

A friend of mine loves it. I don't know what to think about it. Surely, it's something different from what he did before.

I quite like both your posts.
Very different.
Not sure how to do this embedding stuff, or even if it is worth it.
But it does look so much better.
Let's see if this works.....probably not :-)

I will try, using kaprys's advice to embed this video......but it doesn't seem to work for me.....more great Polish Rock though! (before you ask, search on the forum to find all posts)

This is a nice song and video by Goya.
The Polish love of horses.....just a shame about the Russian car...... nice as it is....

I have to thank kaprys for being the only person on this forum able to teach me how to embed videos.
Wilki are of course one of the greatest of Polish Rock bands, but as I love my heavy rock, this has always been one of my favourites.

Mods....please leave me not merge this post with an older one as it pushes this thread down the pecking order.
I posted this just now......another great example of how popular Polish music has something a little bit special.

This video by Skubas is just SO Polish....the hard and the soft.....

You're welcome. I'm glad you have managed to embed your videos. Mine are already gone :/

Just to make sure mods don't get angry I'd like to make a comment that Roksana Węgiel won Junior Eurovision and therefore this post has every right to remain here. ;)
