Examples of popular Polish music?

The Poles are certainly getting there now :-)

Hey check this band out.....Perfect - Wszystko ma swój czas (official video)

My friend from Poland plays drums and told me about a bunch of good bands, some have been mentioned here, of course.

I like these guys, very melodic!

Perfect - Wszystko ma swój czas

Yes Joker. The original band with the vocalist was superb. Perfect and Dzem were engaged in the Polish battle of the bands in the same way as the Beatles and the Stones.

"Reality Dream" ... nice one. I like it.

@Joker
"Perfect" is a little too soft and mainstream for my personal taste, but the singer is quite good as Doug already said.

Here's a beautiful piece of slow blues:

There is this Polish Biker Club ( Sokol Riders) in Chicago. They have a Dzem cover band that is going to play there. Im not sure of the date yet, but want to go.

This is their club house and have local Polish bands performing there from time to time.

AUTOFOBIA - Zamknij Oczy - live @ Sokol Riders Chicago

Im listening to it right now, sounds good! The Blues is like an international language that everyone can understand:)

@delphiandomine
The first song I knew by Kazik /Kult was Baranek. My older brother used to play it often. The chorus was 'interesting'. Years later I read it in Dziady; )

@Joker

I loved your post by Perfekt.
Autofobia sound like a fun live band, never heard of them, but pretty good.

Happy Thanksgiving to y'all

I liked your post too, we really have some people on PF with great musical knowledge and very good tastes.
I just want to extend TheOthers greeting to all our American brothers, because despite the disputes on here, that is what we are.
Hope you all have a great day!

And I'm sorry as I can't help myself. I don't know if I have posted it before but I absolutely love this live performance of Jest taki samotny dom by Budka Suflera.

Tens if not hundreds of thousands of teenagers and people in their 20s and a group of guys in their 50s and 60s on stage wearing t-shirts and doing nothing fancy but play great music. The finale, at around 6:00 is just amazing.

What an amazing video and performance!
Never dismiss the old guys..... ;-)

What an amazing

Whats more amazing is the fans , if you take a look at the audience they are young people, this just would not happen anywhere else.

Quality over fashion or trend age has no boundaries, Poland has talent that's for sure.

Budka Suflera

Super! I wish Opener festival had proper bands such as BS, instead of the festival shiite that they dole out:( Ah well, there's always the albums to listen to! Budka Suflera had not 1, not 2, but 3 (three) great soulful singers, and some classic song writing as to ballads.

And don't forgot the drummer. I can think of quite a few top British bands he would have walked right into.

What about Polish Jazz?

After a few festive beers, I decided to bust out some Miles Davis (milestones) and then it dawns upon me to search out.......

Zbigniew Namyslowski

This guy is a monster! I know it takes a rare breed to appreciate jazz, anyone like it?

youtu.be/nqHK_Rpsf9E

You have to be in a certain mood for sure:)

Zbigniew Namyslowski

He did a lot of crowd pleasers:) This one is in the Mrs Dougpol teenage years record collection:) Scratched to fukk :(( Strange that we were listening to the same stuff (funk jazz) but in different worlds. Very listenable, and commercially successful.

I do. Guess why I posted a few jazz and jazz rock videos already... :)
Ending up with jazz and blues is a "natural" development in my eyes. After going through different phases in musical taste, most people end up appreciating the raw basics.

The song by Zbigniew Namyslowski that you posted sounds a lot like the Crusaders "Live at the Roxy (1974)" ( youtube.com/watch?v=2K53XYBlVKA ). Check it out, it's a really good album.

Here's another Polish jazz band:

Kazimierz Jonkisz Quintet ‎- Tiritaka

hat we were listening to the same stuff (funk jazz) but in different worlds

Were call it Jazz Fusion over here and I was really into it back in the late 80`s. You must have heard about Al Dimeola? Hes my favorite guitarist from that genre along with his band Return to Forever. John Mc Laughlin and Pat Metheny spring to mind as well.

Zbigniew Namyslowski

This is great, even the dirty needle on the vinyl! He has that John Coltrane vibe going:)

Autofobia sound like a fun live band, never heard of them, but pretty good.

I think they're a local Chicago band.

I have another Polish band for you, its kinda cheesy

Loved that post

anyone like it?

Yeah, I did!

most people end up appreciating the raw basics

Very true and Jazz, Blues and Folk music are the raw basics.
I liked your post too.

I love Jazz.
From trad, to big bands, Satchmo amd all te rest to the Fusion that Joker was talking about, Dimeola, Mahavishnu, Return to Forever with Chick Corea etc etc

All great stuff!
There has been some good Polish Jazz and I think it was promoted in the Commie days to keep kids away from western Pop and Rock.

That failed......... :-)
But to be honest, most Polish Jazz I have heard has been pretty weird, querky and frankly, not very good.
Besides the notable exceptions you posted.
But hey, prove me wrong!

To be honest, this is the only nice thread on PF right now.
Where people of different nationalities, races and political backgrounds can come together.
United in their love of Polish music.
I have two or three for you tonight.
This is Svann, with a song I can only translate as "Sugar Daddy", please correct me if I am wrong.
A bit Goth, a bit Metal and Prog and a bit hippy too.
Quite different and quite good.

youtu.be/bfc3EY2EAOI

This reminds me of the great American bands Creed and Staind.
But a very good Polish band called Brown and "Gdy zamkne oczy".
youtu.be/K1YEuvLUeiM

I 'll end with this one, from a great Polish band that seem to be sometimes overlooked.
Totentanz and "Calkiem sam".

I was wrong......

But hey, prove me wrong!

And I will prove myself wrong soon.
After delving and searching deeper into Polish Jazz and Funk I found loads of good stuff.
Loads of crap too, to be honest.
But I will post some amazing old Pollish Jazz and Funk and some newer stuff too when I get more time.

Iron, I loved both of your posts.

@ Miloslaw

Svann sounds like the Polish version of the Pretenders. When I look at the drummer, it doesn't go together with the music and the singer. Kinda strange. Totentanz is German slang for "Boring/ nothing going on". Interesting that a Polish band picks such a name. Again, that band sounds like a copy of another famous American lineup, Pearl Jam. Just a little softer. Too mainstream for my personal taste, but technically good.

a popular hit of the year 1633

LOL! Top of the Pops 1633. I like Pomme. She has a nice voice.

Some Polish underground music:

Hokei Band - Don't go (Full album) --> sounds a bit like older material from the German band Can

Stara Rzeka - Zamknęły się oczy ziemi

@TheOther

I only whizzed through your posts as I don't really have the time to listen to whole albums.
I think single songs are probably more appropriate in this thread.
But that is just my opinion.
They all sounded pretty good and I will dip in there and listen some more.
As for the German band Can, I am only guessing, but besides you and me I reckon the only other regular poster on here that knows them is Doug.

I have to agree with you. Ive been searching out other Polish Jazz artists and not finding anything that special, but it is kind of strange.

You still have disco polo:)

Ok, so I couldn't resist......
Some proper Polish Jazz.
This is Zbigniew Namyslowski with Emmolowka.

youtu.be/_uoT4Zp77CM

This is nice.
Some Latin Jazz from Bemibek and a song called Powrtna Bossa Nova.

youtu.be/nwVMiDodn5A

My last one for tonight, a nice relaxing tune from Tomasz Stanko called Grand Finale..... very apt... :-)

youtu.be/g7RXcvDT9SU

Yeah, I was wrong, there is some nice Polish Jazz out there, but you have to search for it.....

Some rock music for a change:

Test - Test (full album)

Stress - Polska Nostalgia, Cz. 8

As for the German band Can

Let me post this for Joker. I'm sure he'll like it:

@TheOther

I enjoyed both Test and Stress, never heard of them before, but again, full albums is too much for me.
I quite liked Can too, loads of good German bands around that time, Amon Duul, Triumvirat, Wallenstein, Sweet Smoke, Ashra, Tangerine Dream and dozens more.

But the mod is right, this is a Polish forum.
Let's stick to Polish bands :-)

So tonight I'll post some Polish Jazz funk.
This is Zbigniew Namyslowski and "Mango Boogie"

youtu.be/BshmLEAHBHY

And this is Janusz Poplawski with "Whiskey Sour".

youtu.be/zQNMUuTplgw

And my last post tonight is from Alex Band and is called "Ajoka", enjoy some Polish Jazz Funk!!

An afterthought.
I meant to post this a few days ago but looking back on my posts I can't find it.
So, apologies if I have posted this before.
I am not a fan of "Talent" shows, but this young Pole is exceptional.
Witness Marcin Patrzalek murdering his guitar...... LOL!!!

He even stole the ending from SOAD....... :-)

Hi all, I've decided to separate my questions as I've so many things to ask you lol:
1. If Doda is sort of like the Polish Britney, who's the Polish Christina Aguilera (a more talented Doda rival)? I know Dawid Kwiatkowski is the Polish Justin Bieber.

2. I'm also curious about the Polish analogs of Gotye & Carly Rae Jepsen? Here someone mentioned the Polish Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/11/06/ratchet-week-eurotrip-diary-part-2/ but what's her name?

3. As you can see, I LOVE anything late 2000s/early 2010s (2008-2014), so naturally I'd like to know what were the biggest stars in Poland in those years? Please include examples of both those that are still popular as well as one-hit wonders that has since disappeared. I'm especially interested in 2013 and the biggest hits from that year.

Loved your posts.
Polish Reggae has been huge for ages...... just like the Polish love of Celtic music, I have aabsolutely no idea where it comes from, but no complaints either.

Here is some more, one of my favourites is Mesajah and this is "Swoja Droga".

youtu.be/4FAsqZs8XMY

Another one from Mesajah, this is "Wiadomosc".

youtu.be/OiXBpNg3v8o

Last one for tonight.
Ras Luta and "Kazdy nowy dzien".
