Strangely hypnotic.......I quite liked it!

There's something about it, isn't there?

I like a lot of metal bands :) You shouldn't stereotype people Milo ;)

You are right.
And this is for you :-)

@Miło
Chemikiem is right. You really shouldn't stereotype or close yourself to new things either.

I just came across this

Kolysanka dla kruka
youtu.be/rLhbttuId6o

As for getting inspired by folk music, it's been going on for decades. Just to mention Kayah and Bregovic. That's pretty much when Piejo kury, piejo was recorded as well, I think.

As for rock bands and Woodstock I love this live performance of Jest taki samotny dom.

Poland was fortunate though to have far less censorship towards western things than Russia and even e germany

Because Poles are Western Slavs and as such they are intent on following the Western principles even in a communist system. E.g, it was communists themselves who took a decision of bigger openness to the West in 1970s. I still remember all those significant Western films by famous directors which I could see in the cinema.

We have observed this phenomena since 1989, too - Poles adopting Western way of life en masse.

In result, we will be exactly like a Western country in 20 years` time.

Thanks Milo, so strange listening to it in Polish though! Here is one for you!

youtu.be/Og-d_bwMuqQ

@ kaprys, I loved both of yours, I think we have similar musical tastes. The start of that Budka Suflera track reminds me a lot of Iron Man by Black Sabbath, although whether anyone else will hear it is debatable!

@Chemikiem

Thanks for that.
Loved it.
I can't claim to have known Metallica, but they were friends of friends, and when they came to England before they were famous,
They knew my face well enough to say hi and have a brief chat.
We knew then that they were going to be MASSIVE, but I am not sure that they did......which is maybe why they had the usual problems with drugs and alcohol later.

But I can tell you this, they were genuine, ordinary, nice guys back then.
But they were very focused.... especially Lars, who is the brains behind the band.

Because Poles are Western Slavs and as such they are intent on following the Western principles even in a communist system

One of my Polish born cousins, who is the same age as me, told me that there was a DJ on Polish National Radio that used to play western rock albums in full on the radio and that people used to record it on cassette tape and reproduce loads of them to sell in the markets at the weekend.

I have just a handful of random Polish music posts tonight.
Hey Mods, please give me at least 24 hours grace.... I asked nicely..... :-)

youtu.be/E3AD7FyycEQ

youtu.be/8dTl1ffanSE

And I'll end with a couple of Celtic influenced tunes.

youtu.be/7FldKlohTfk

And for my last one, even Atch should quite like this, but she may pick some faults in it..... ;-)
But I love it!!

youtu.be/3i7g7xeLGi0

Oh, an afterthought.
This is a brilliant song by the French Breton folk artist Alain Stivell, beautifully covered by this Polish band.

I like the 3rd band "Black Bread" I think you posted them before. I want that white Flying V guitar:)

I can't claim to have known Metallica, but they were friends of friends

I can't stand Metallica, except for one album. Iron Maiden is better:)

I think I owe a big thank you to the mod or mods that kept my "hotlinks" or whatever you call them, open for so long.

It just goes to show what asking nicely can get you.... :-)
Thanks, whoevever you are!

there was a DJ on Polish National Radio that used to play western rock albums in full on the radio

His name was Marek Gaszyński and every Tuesday in 1980s he played Western metal and hard rock albums, normally unavailable to Polish fans. I collected about 50 cassettes with that music, the cult albums, including 3 first albums by Metallica, the best of all.

Tuesday at 6 pm was a sacred hour for me and my mates. It was fully illegal (copyrights) but the communist state ignored such banalities. hahaha

Can you imagine my and my mates` fury when one Tuesday he went crazy and played Marillion? You must know this British group, with Fish as a frontman. Nice music but far from metal/hard rock. I felt so disappointed and cheated on that I almost broke the stereo into pieces. hahaha

Lol!!!!!
Yes I can.... not really Hard Rock is it?
Having said that, I am about to do the same and upset you now Pawian......
As the self proclaimed Hard Rocker and Blues merchant of this forum ( Along with Joker).
I have to admit that I do have very broad tastes in music and even like some Polish Pop music......
So tonight I have a broad selection of Polish Pop tunes that I like.......hopefully the mod or mods will stay kind to me and keep these up as long as possible.......

This is great fun!

youtu.be/UKNYbHE6EUw

She looks and sounds pretty rough, if you know what I mean.
But I am strangely attracted to her voice.

youtu.be/MEdxTgvVZFk

Bednarek really splits opinon in Poland and I have never really understood why.
Maybe someone can explain it to me.
Given the title and lyrics of this song, I couldn't resist posting it......

youtu.be/jyzd7bHwlK0

This is the only "Rockin'" tune from me tonight.
It is really good.

youtu.be/4SQeYoGcdKM
I'm sure I have posted this old Bednarek classic before, but I think it's worth another blast.

youtu.be/_VJuiF9Kvx4

Last one from me tonight, from the master.... Kortez.... he can do no wrong by me....

youtu.be/3BnfiJnHXvk

Mods.
Please be kind to me again.
Hey, I am promoting Polish Music after all. :-)

Poles make great builders, are world renowned sedimentologists, engineers, they make vodka, etc....
Polish pop music is highly derivative though, and overblown I believe.

Cool!

I'll end with a couple of Celtic influenced tunes.

I liked those, especially the Beltaine one. I'll have a look at all the ones you posted last night later on, short on time at the moment.
kaprys 3 | 2,245
22 Oct 2019 #316
Czarny chleb ... is not the name of the band but the title of the song -performed by various artists really.
I've seen Beltaine live. Really great, the violinist is great.
@Miloslaw
The first video sounds like disco polo to me, tbh.
Ewelina has a nice voice but I wouldn't say her songs are masterpieces. Not to mention using her songs in a certain shop's commercials ... now I can't really think of the original lyrics but the lyrics used in the commercials.

Bednarek and Afromental are not my cup of tea but not bad.

Polish pop music is highly derivative though

And people say you haven't assimilated! This is exactly the type of thing I'd expect a Polish music critic to say in the 1990s....

Bednarek

Musical entertainment - but not music, in my aged view only of course.

The work of Polish musicians is quite experimental sometimes, not simply copying mainstream. The Oira 317 project is such an example. I like the mixture between rock and electronic, and have been following the guy's work for quite some time now. Don't get fooled by the "Russian Dark Community" label by the way. Oira 317 is Polish.

This sounds pretty good. I like hearing new music as well.

Do you know these guys? Czarny Pistolert Ogien, blues/rock band from Austinski, Polonia. Only a guitarist and drummer.....

Austinski ... LOL!
No, never heard of that band. Sounds really good, although a bass player is truly missed in the lineup. The drummer looks like the "Animal" from the Muppets.

Nope, never heard of them but they press my buttons so I will investigate further.
Have to agree with theother, they need a bassist.

You can`t upset me coz I also like some pop music.

Black Pistol Fire are a Canadian duo based in Austin, Texas.
Not Polish mate :-(

His name was Marek Gaszyński and every Tuesday

I remember listening to him Pawian. Mrs Dougpol recorded a Wilson Pickett album ("Back on the Right Track") off his show on her faithful Unitra . Not such a terrible recording either (mono of course...)

PS: He didn't only play metal Pawian.....
Another DJ played more eclectic music - whole records too. Wifey recorded 3 or 4 Patti Labelle and Arethra Franklin LPS. I still have those too somewhere.

Must be confused with Austinski then:)

Dzien Dobry, are you sleepy? This death metal band from Krosno will wake you up!...Decapitated

@Ironside

I quite liked the first song but am not into Classical music at all.

@Joker

Again I don't think that Khruangbin are Polish.
And the other Metal tunes were just too heavy for me.
Decapitated have been going since about 1996 and are well known to extreme Metal fans.
They had some bad press lately by having some rape charges against them, but they were aquitted.
There is one Polish Death Metal band that precede Decapitated and perhaps caused even more furore.
They are Behemoth, formed around 1991.
They are VERY extreme and so I will not post any of their videos but feel free to search if you are interested.
Some of the videos may well shock you.
Poland does have an extreme Metal base with these two bands alone.
But for me, my Metal goes as far as Metalica, System of a Down and Rammstein.
None of them Polish..... :-(
