Disco Polo - No No No No No!

One Polish anthropologist told me that Poland's disco-polo bashers are wannabe snobs trying to conceal the fact (even from themselves) that they themselves are only one or two generations removed from the countryside. Jumping on the conformist anti-disco bandwagon heightens their sense of self-worth and makes them feel more citified, sophisticated and cutting edge. Any comments?

Yep - complete bollocks. What's country about an old-school Roland synth and a sub-karaoke backing track?

Kapela ze wsi Warszawa - now that's old-time, country you might say, but progressive with it. Great people too, met 'em a couple of times.

It's either that, or that people don't like inane lyrics laid down over droning breeder beats. If snobbery means not liking boring uninspired noise, I'll take that label and wear it with pride.

Kapela ze wsi Warszawa

Awesome, you like Corvus Corax by any chance?

Ahhh come on...How can a Polish Wedding be as much fun without Disco Polo? I've been to a wedding a coupla times and damn! once you get a little drunk, that music rocks...

But seriously...can Lady Pank be considered Disco Polo? I like it even when I am not drunk...
ENJOY!

I'd say I agree completely. And that goes double for Polish music critics (who mostly would prefer if there were no Polish music at all.

Disco Polo isn't really my taste but I didn't look down on people that liked it and in the 90's it connected with larger audiences than anything else in Polish music.

And, as simplistic as most of it was, at least it was optimistic (it's real sin for Polish critics) and wasn't as nihilistic and self-destructive as hip hop.

If snobbery means not liking boring uninspired noise, I'll take that label and wear it with pride.

What music do you like?

someone wrote here that disco polo is a satan's creation. 100% agree, and that makes it similar to death metal :) i cannot wait for nergal wearing his brand new gym suit with 3 stripes :) and white sport shoes, of course :)

Here is the proof that it was Germans who invented disco polo!

What is it with the bloody Germans and music ?!

Excellent at highbrow, crap at populist.

I mean, classical wise, they are phenomenal, untouchable - goes without saying.

Rock wise - very good at progressive/experimental stuff, but when it comes to basic pop they just soooo bad. It's almost as if they are unable to lower themselves.

Remember that utter git Scooter? He was like a cross between a hairdresser and an escapee from a Hamburg S&M club. Listening to him I could feel the will to live slowly slipping away...

"We were here in '95 we will...etc etc "

:/

What music do you like?

Quite a bit of music, Behemoth, Hank III, Samuel Barber, Driveby Truckers, lots of folk... an eclectic mix.

Not a big fan of pop music.

Excellent at highbrow, crap at populist.

They're great at churning out crappy pop music. I think that 90% of teenage pop love songs are written in a studio somewhere in Dusseldorf by a fat bald 50 year old guy named Gunter.

crappy pop music.

Yeah, that being the operative word though :)

Not a big fan of pop music.

Do you not just mean you are not a big fan of crap music?
I mean there is good pop music and bad pop music.

It's served with a big dose of irony, but it's ..... disco f*king polo.

Old and new.

I won't mention here why I think this is a good thing overall, but I do.

but it beats heavy metal any day u have to admit.

it depends how "heavy" :-) ACDC is also heavy metal and I like it a lot. To be honest with you, I like all kinds of music (some more and some less) except for those 4, techno, disco polo, rap and hip hop.

Thanks everyone! I had never heard of the genre. Now I do. I'm actually proud of the fact that Poles came up with it :)

Fanatic- Rzeki przepłynąłem

As a frequent viewer of disco relax, you really don't wanna mess with me.
Here's just a taste of the pain I can inflict:

If that's pain, give me more! lol

Because discopolo is that bad.

Whoa convex! Lighten up. It's not all Mozart and Hayden :) It makes people happy, dance and feel good. Music for the masses.

Do you feel yourself to be... a mass, sameness swarming to a beat of DP music? Strange!

Music for the masses.

The Bolsheviks' dream come true.
