Registering a Car in Poland on a tourist visa / karta pobytu?

Here's a question I have yet to see answered:

I am in Poland, getting married and want to buy a car. I am not yet employed but will be as soon as I am married. Can I buy a car, get it registered and insured on just a tourist visa? And one my karta pobytu?

Thanks in advance.

You can buy a car no matter what your status is. However, you can only register a car for as long as you will legally be in Poland: so if you're here on a tourist visa, that's no more than 90 days; if you've got a karta pobytu, the registration expires on the day your karta expires.

Merged: Is it possible for me to buy a car under my name when I'm not Polish citizen?

Greetings!

Hi everyone, I'm from the Philippines married to a Polish citizen but we live in South Africa. We visit Poland ( Poznan ) 3 times a year. My husband wants to buy a car under my name. Now, my questions: As I don't have Polish citizenship, is it possible for me to buy a car under my name? What are the requirements for me to get to be able to own a car or property in Poland? Your advice is greatly appreciated..

Best regards,

Gina

You can buy a car no problem but you'll need somewhere to register it. However, as a foreigner you can only register your car for as long as you are legally in Poland. In your case that will mean that you first have to get a residency permit (which will take at least 30 days) and then you can register your car, but only for a year or two (depending on how long a residency permit you were given). When your residency expires, so does your vehicle registration, meaning you need to renew both. In short, it's going to be far easier if your husband buys the car in his own name.
