Pimsleur's Polish Lessons

-in the restaurant in ulica street?

In street Street? :P

I actually have both Pimsleur and Michel Thomas and I like both. If you want help with "writing" the words, then go through the lessons on this site, they are nothing short of sensational and through the pronunciation of the alphabet it will improve your spelling out of sight.

I would also think it is worth some or of visual work. So and internet course or a book or something that just lets you work at your pace to compliment the speed of the cds.

Michel Thomas is an interesting way of learning as you learn with the man & woman that are learning at the same time. I have only done cd one, but it deals a lot more with the whole this/it, it, how, why etc Pimsluer tries to constuct a final story and knowing the final story(ies) it builds it from the start.

The comments about being American are a little sensitive. I am Australian and will never need to use Jestem Amerykaninem, but that is not really the point being made.

Pimsleur has a better method of introducing new words. It will pronounce from the last syllable and work backwards. I find this very easy to work with.

There is no doubt that Michel Thomas works through a lot more words/scenarios thought.
I do believe that if you do the 30 cds in Pimsleur Polish I you will be able to verbally engage native Polish people with some simple requests.. can I have a beer, can you book a table for eight etc etc. Remember there are 3 courses in the Pimsleur group and the 30cds covers Polish I, basic level Polish.

One big advantage for Michel Thomas is that if your cd does not have a "seek" facility in your car or a pause etc, each section on the cds is broken up, so it is easy to skip back and forth.

Anyway, just my thoughts on what I have found so far.

Is there a level 2 and 3 Pimsleur Polish? I've only ever seen the level 1 advertised, with 30 lessons...

I just finished Lesson 30 last weekend. But remember that you have to repeat each lesson until you feel comfortable enough to start the next one.

Unfortunately, the Pimsleur system will not teach you how to read or write, and I think this is crucial.
I just received by mail my complete course of Rossetta Stone for Polish which I will start next week.
Supposedly, Rosseta Stone will teach how to "think" in Polish.
I already tried a few lessons and I loved it.

Pimsleur system doesn't have level 2 or 3. But Rossetta Store does.

Yeah there is for sure only a 10 day basic and a 30 day Level 1 in Pimsleur Polish.

I find it the best program out there in general and wish they had beyond the 90 days. Rosetta stone didn't work at all for me and is extremely overpriced. I would only even bother with it if you can get a free copy from someone. Pimsleur isn't cheap either but is available on torrents and even if you have to pay you can find companies that will buy them back for a partial refund.

I disagree that reading and writing is that essential in the beginning. It isn't the natural way we learn anyway and Pimsleur focuses on that. Plus they do have written booklets that help you with sounds and those went a long way to helping me understand basic reading in a few languages.

No program is going to take you to fluency and asking of to is about as sensible as expecting your mobile phone to work as well as an SLR or a full sized computer. It is part of a bigger picture.

I recently finished the 30 unit Pimsleur and am getting ready to start the Michel Thomas. I enjoyed the Pimsleur and feel that It was a really good method and only bemoan the fact that there is no level 2. In addition, there are a lot of comments with respect to no reading element, so I thought I'd mention that Pimsleur now has printable reading exercises at the end of unit 30.
