I thought the English for this was designer drug. Now I see Polish Radio using the term booster drug. Are these synonymous?

For me it is just the designer drug. The cause of using the term 'boost drug' may be due to the Polish term - 'dopalacz' which is also used similarly as the word 'Booster' in English language (as an amplifier/accelerant).

Legal High is the English language term, even though many are sadly not now legal. 'Designer Drug' is rather specific and this 'booster' thing has a whiff of continental Europe about it.

sadly ? really? I think all of this 'legal' shyte should be criminalised in line with 'old school' drugs.
At least we know what is in the latter!
Interesting question Polonius. in the UK at least, the word is 'legal highs' - 'booster' is probably a direct translation.
