UK, Ireland / Proof of Address (my Polish gf moving to the UK) [14]

I can tell you how it was with me: my landlord wrote a letter stating that I lived at that address, with a signature and contact number (and obviously you would act as her 'landlord'). And getting bill would be a good idea, but then again service provider(s) would probably... guess what... need a proof of address...

Language / ch - antychryst - chłeb [13]

antychryst and anarchia struck me as odd because the ch sounds is pronounced like a "k" rather than a "wh" sound

???
Use your headphones to listen to that and try listen well... AnarKia or antyKryst would sound rather 'slangy' or 'dialect'-ish, at least to me.

Polonia / POLES vs BULGARIANS [160]

Recently a Bulgarian I met told me he feels safer in Glasgow(!) than in his homeland Bulgaria. I guess that sums up the discussion about who's EU and who's not yet there.

And before you call Poland 'asia', look at your own backyard, pal

Life / How Polish are you? [74]

I doubt you could be polish vault dweller.. I don't think they would build any vaults in here..

Well, Glasgow in certain places looks like it had been through nuclear holocaust. You would be surprised how close to the city centre (:

There is a second Quiz

That's more like it. 100% of course.

Life / How Polish are you? [74]

It's rather 'How Catholic are you' than 'Polish'. I'm 100% Polish even though I don't give a damn what Papa Ratzi says about whatever he has to say about.

Edit. Anyway, I just have to produce my passport with a crowned bird at heaven's gate. It's as obvious as that (:

Language / Polish words difficult to translate into English [66]

kożuch po dziadku nie pasował na niego (bo był za mały) -

Who? Kożuch, dziadek or him? (Edit: a little joke here)

Żul, menel have probably no counterparts in English. But these are slang words.

Life / Re-connect Electricity in Poland. Day/night electricity tariffs. [4]

You need to check with your electricity provider (Zakład Energetyczny, ZE). And tariffs need to be arranged too. There are flat rates for all day and cheaper rates for certain hours during daytime and night. I'm talking about my parents' tariff arrangement with ZE Opole, but I guess it can be pretty similar to what's in Poznań.

History / Weapons of WWII (Poland and other countries) [239]

Dunkirk in '41.

There was no Dunkirk '41. Perhaps you mean Dunkirk '40, but definitely not '41. In '41 all what was going on in Dunkirk was the 'Allo, allo'. Then Dieppe in '42, and afterwards return to the 'Allo, allo'.

News / I suggest a new location on the map for Poland! [44]

Move Poland between France and Germany. Or better still, between France and Spain. Our problems will disappear overnight and I'll be visiting home by car (and not by these effing expensive 'cheap' airlines).

(:

History / The Celts in Poland. [71]

I read some book on Celts some time ago, and the name 'Legnica' (Polish town; German version is 'Leignitz') is associated with Celtic god Lug.

Love / How to propose to Polish women? [17]

Before asking the girl to be your wife, you MUST ask her father for her hand.

Remnants of feudalism ended in Poland some 150 years ago.

How to propose to Polish women?

You've got some astonishing sights there in the USA, take her to the Great Canyon or Niagara Falls or wherever, wait until you're alone with her, then kneel, pull the diamond ring out of your pocket and just pop the big Q... You may witness tears of joy, who knows :)

Work / Questions about teaching in Elblag or Opole? [23]

Opole is rather small but a great student city. It is home to Itaka so any trips that you take abroad through them will have their buses located there.

Even better, it's not far away from Katowice-Pyrzowice airport.

Travel / Mushroom picking in spring in Poland? [35]

Can i go mushroom hunting in the spring here?

Sure, but be warned: we have evil spirits in our forests who make some 'shrooms poisonous
