Food / Mother of all hangovers....Polish Beer! [71]

A few centuries ago, when I was still very much into experimenting with all kinds of alcohols, I noticed one rule that worked with me; local microclimate had a lot to do with how I felt the morning after a night of drinking. Tatra mountains, and most mountains in general were good. Almost no hangover the following day. Upper Silesia was by far the worst - I felt like Zeus about to give birth to Athena.

no you idiot keeping wages down stopping natives getting the best pay deals to suppost their families

ever heard market economy? The loosers... well, lose.

instead we've got poles stealing the jobs and claiming child tax credit for children living over in poland

Speaking of idiots... do you think posting on this forum will change that?
Why don't you notify proper authorities.

whatver freedom poles are communists

i think half a million poles working

nearly 300,000 brits claim benefits

So Brits sit on their asses, collect free cash, while Poles work, and that makes you think Poles are communists?

Genealogy / Polish Gypsy Roots & Roma ancestors in their families [206]

The name Romany, Romans, which they prefer now-days, sounds surprisingly close to Raamses, or Rimasses, city where they worked as slaves under pharaoh

Not even close.
Genetics allegedly shows that Romani oroginate from India about 40 generations ago. It is generally accepted that there are on average 4 generation for each century, which would put the origins of Romani at about 1000 A.D. Even with some rounding up or down, it is impossible for the Romani to have been slaves in Egypt.

united states not allow unlimited peasants into your own land

There are an estimated 20 million illegals in the US. A vast majority are Mexicans, of whom... a vast majority are peasants working American farms.

these poles have destroyed a lot of our unions

Actually, Poles and trade unions in the UK are pretty cuddly. You need to get informed.

Some things for you to read:
With the help of Polish members, the union managed to organise a 24-hour stoppage of the transportation of medical items in protest at a management decision to transfer a £3.5-£4 billion, 1.6 billion contract from the UK to Germany..

or this:
Amicus launches initiative for Polish workers:
amicustheunion.org/default.aspx?page=4590

In short, Poles may be actually saving trade unions in your country.

Food / Pierogi Dough [30]

I am half Polish - and am entitled to make pierogi's for my family.

Of course you are, but only half of what 100% Poles are entitled to ;)

Language / Polish slang phrases - most popular. [606]

A while ago I came across this text in Polish slang:

Tracham sobie dziś bryką jak wporzo umcyk, z ziomalem pingpongiem. Nagle lukam, a tu śmiga dojara, szmaty ma cool, aż widać jej majtki z uzdą, na galach matriksy, normalnie zajebaszczo. Koleś szybko zlepił bałwana i pyta - ściemniamy?

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

How come when someone learns a new language the swear are
always the first ones you learn?

It's actually a known psychological phenomenon. Swear words do cause some excitement and therefore they are more memorable. The same with other words we learn in unusual circumstances. It is a sort of contextual reinforcement.

Travel / Cheaper Flights to Poland [50]

If the city of your destination is in Western in Poland then you may want to consider flights to Berlin, and then a train from there to one of Polish cities. It's faster (and cheaper) tan flying to Warsaw.

Love / Polish Girls vs Russian Girls [813]

In fact it would be impossible to tell who is Polish and who is Russian looking at two naked girls.

Unless you are Polish or Russian ;)

The differences could be in their views about world or past events, which is natural given that "Russia ruled other nations" and "Poland was ruled by others".

That fluctuated.
Russia was actually ruled by others longer than Poland.

History / Norman Davies - the Brit who loves Poland and becomes one of Us [250]

I would have to agree with your last paragraph darius, lenin, stalin, nikita et al dont engender many sympathetic feelings

I was being very polite towards the fore mentioned personalities when I wrote that. To be more truthful, mine and my family's experience, as well as the experience of millions of other Poles don't much room for a separation of Russian approach towards Poland from that which lead Nazi Germany to exterminating so many Poles. To many Poles (especially those who are old enough to remember) Russia ~ Nazi Germany

Russia is to be feared. At least in the foreseeable future, so I think the only correct policy Poland can have towards the bear is one suggested by a not so nice Polish saying: don't stir **** so it won't stink. (jak gówna nie ruszać to nie śmierdzi)

History / Norman Davies - the Brit who loves Poland and becomes one of Us [250]

He does get a bit simplistic and one sided when it comes to Russo-Polish relations, neutrality on this is not his strong point, maybe he is just trying to "out Pole the Poles" as many immigrents do in the new country they love.

I disagree. I heard Davies speak a few times in a manner that some Poles might not necessarily appreciate. For instance Davies thinks that some Polish historians (and many Poles in general) over-romanticize Poland and Polish history along with various events it lead to, or resulted from. (btw. I agree with him)

Is there really a lot of good to say about Soviet policies toward Poland between 1919 and now? If things appear one side in his books, could that be that he is actually telling the truth as closely as it is possible? Remember, for a big chunk of that period we're talking about Stalin, then Khruschev and their followers - not much nicer fellas.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

For a Pole who so loves Poland that you have escaped to Canada and now you are telling me to finish my education!

Escaped?
I never escaped any country. I was invited to the US to continue my studies in the English Department of Vanderbilt University.

Zeby pisac bzdury z bezmozgowcem?

I never called you "brainless'. If I thought you were brainless then it would have been silly for me to hope you can eventually get some knowledge that would allow you to debate, instead of arguing (which you have promised to stop)

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

I know that Poland still wants some of its land back and I do not need to finish any education to know that.

I am unaware of any territorial claims by Poland.
Can you provide me with some links that would indicate otherwise?

Russia certainly does not occupy anywhere near 1/2 of Poland's former territories. Therefore Russia can neither sell, or give any of those territories back. Ukraine, Byelorussia and some Baltic states might be in that position. And that's what I meant by your lack in education. You think you know what people think/want, but you have no idea about some basics of the region's geography, therefore your own thoughts are based on nothing more than just your thoughts which have been proven baseless so many times on this forum

History / 'Battle of Britain' won thanks to Polish aces !! [158]

Im afraid "your" aircrew needed it as much as anyone, you cant just join a forgiegn force without cross over training or chaos would ensue

I would really recommend the book I suggested in post #2 above.

Speaking personally my relative had as much fighting experiance as the average Polish Pilot

Not every Polish pilot was a better flier than every British pilot. The top aces in the Battle of Britain were undoubtedly Poles though. As a matter of fact, they were legendary to the point that some British pilots (and some Brits in general) pretended Polish accent to get dates with British chicks :)

The Air war for Europe was won by terrific co operation between men of many nationalities coming together with a coomen cause and a commen training regime and tactics, without that we would have all lost against the hun.

That is true.
