Genealogy / Do Polish people have big noses? [451]

Hmmm...growing up I used to hate my nose too =P but I came to accept it :))

I don't have many member of my family with 'big noses'; just a few.

I do have the Polish 'cheeks'! they're poofy! I don't have a high forehead though...

I don't think I look like a Polish gal =/ I remember growing up wondering why I didn't look so Polish? is it because I didn't have light hair colour? high forehead? I don't know :))

I take it after my father who look like a Greek or Italian guy (with dark curly/wavy hair, & 'butt chin')...my mom all Polish, blonde, the nose..everything :)) (my brother takes after her).

Genealogy / Are all Poles blue eyed and blonde? [451]

I don't have blonde hair :) I do have olive green eyes (although they can change). When I was born I had dark curly hair with blue eyes. As I got older; my hair went lighter and straight. My eyes became more green. Now I have wavy, medium brown hair with olive green. I take it after my father (who got dark wavy/curly hair, green eyes, tan all summer like some Italian or Greek guy)...my mom does have blonde, blue eyes :) sometime people mistaken her for Russian. I got family members with dark brown, brown eyes (almost half of my family) and the rest light hair colour, coloured eyes).

They are all in Polish. Depends on the DVD you get, but there should be English subtitles. I'm sorry I don't know the Polish names for the movies, those are the translated English names.

No problem :)

"Ashes and Diamonds" = Popiół i diament
"Man of Iron" = Człowiek z żelaza
"Kanal" = Kanał
"The Decologue" = Dekalog

Thanks Krzysztof! :)

Do most of you (the ones living outside Poland) visit Poland usually in July? or June?

I'm curious to know :) because I want to be there just in time for all the activities that are happening (festivals, fun activities...etc)

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

From my experience and my family...that I know my mom, my grandmothers, female cousins, friends most of them got puffy cheeks, their cheek bone, round or heart shape face, usually dimples (I know I have 'em), dark to light hair, almond eye shape, peachy to milky skin colour, roundish-squishy? type of nose...(most people think I look Polish because of my face shape, puffy cheeks, dimples, my almond eye shape, cheek bone...etc)

I can spot a Polish person easily on a street (I guess I just have a strong gut feeling, she must be Polish or he must be Polish, there just something about their face)

Men? my brother had white blonde hair when he was little now dark blonde hair. Men in my family are average height to tall (I have about 80% of my male cousins that are over 6' foot tall), they don't age, my dad is about 50; he look most at 40...men look younger (well in my family I guess).

USA, Canada / Moving back from Canada to Poland, yes or no? [39]

I was born in Gdansk Poland =) moved to Canada as a kid with my family.

I miss Gdansk very much! =( I am thinking of moving back there again in a few years.

Although my husband is not Polish, and our little daughter, Izabella is learning Polish now (she is only 8 month old). My husband doesn't mind moving to Poland. He is very flexible =)

He can understand some Polish but he is fluently in English and French. I am a teacher and he's a medical technologist/clinical researcher.

My question is...how hard would it be for us to move there and live there? is it possible at all? I am worried that it might be hard =/ soo on the other hand, I am thinking of Ireland or UK. I just want to live in Europe! =) always a dream of mine. Own a cottage house one day ;)

anywys any advice(s)?? Thanks!!!

Life / Please help me, with deciding a good Polish name for my baby boy :) [48]

Hello everyone! :o)

Ok, I didn't know where to post this under. So I am assuming that I am in the right place here ;-)

I am a Polish Canadian (living in the Toronto area, Canada). My family & I moved here, when I was a kid from Gdansk, Poland.

Currently, I have a daughter, her name is Izabella, so it is "Iza" :-)

Now I am pregnant with my second one, a boy this time and I am having a hard time deciding the name!

I wanted the middle name to be after my dad: "Dariusz"

- Jakub Dariusz

- Oliver Dariusz

- Lukas Dariusz

- ???

Maybe any other good Polish names??

Life / Please help me, with deciding a good Polish name for my baby boy :) [48]

Ned?? Come on, for real :-P

...and why would they make fun of "Jakub"? They would just say "Jacob" just a different spell. I've known plenty of Jakubs here & not once I've heard that they were bullied. Same for Lukas but I'll omit "z" in here.

I'm pretty sure Oliver is not Polish ;)

Believe me, in Canada...there are names from all over the world. So it isn't too bad here :-)

Btw, I've always had my name: Kasia here. I never changed to Kate or Kathy. It never bothered me & no, I was never bullied either.

Well, well... I've got some interesting suggestions on here lol Thank you all! ;)

I think I might stick to Jakub or Lukas. I did think of Adam but I think there are way too many Adams that I know here. I'd like a name that can flow well both in Polish and English.
