you are an expert on Polish history as good as I am

On Polish history - maybe, on Ukrainian delusions - certainly not. What's your point exactly?

Whenever you come to this thread, you will be asked this question.

And you think you will achieve a different result by asking me the same question 100 times? :) You know what it means when somebody does exactly the same thing over and over again but expects different results? :)

Answer the simple question:

I already did...

I don't give a toss (...) What happens inside their sick minds is none of my concern.

Why do they think so? Beats me. Probably because they are Ukrainian imperialists.

... I can put it in simpler and shorter words for you: I don't know and I don't care.

you know that I caught you

You took my quote saying "there are Ukrainians who think that "Zakerzonia" should belong to Ukraine", quoted it as ""Zakerzonia" should belong to Ukraine", and asked me why. It's as if I said "It is a lie that I stole the money" and you quoted only the "I stole the money" part, and asked me why. :):):) Mere trolling as usual.

The show will go on :)

The show of your usual mental retardation. :)

@pawian

You misquote me. I wrote that "there are Ukrainians who think that "Zakerzonia" should belong to Ukraine" not that ""Zakerzonia" should belong to Ukraine".

Why do they think so? Beats me. Probably because they are Ukrainian imperialists. Fekk them!!! :)

And you don`t know?

I don't give a toss. The fact is that there are Ukrainians who think that "Zakerzonia" should belong to Ukraine. What happens inside their sick minds is none of my concern. I just want Poland to stay away from any idea of union with Ukraine.

Why do they claim so???

Ask them.

That is pure paranoia of yours, indeed.

If this "Polish-Ukrainian union" ever happens, then we will see if I was paranoic or not.

However, it's better to be careful and avoid any such craziness.

Why should Eastern Poland be passed under Ukrainian administration?

Not "Eastern Poland" but the so-called Закерзоння, which some Ukrainians still claim to be their land (remember the lovely FB group "Закерзоння - it is Ukrainian Land"?).

And I already gave you the reason: Ukrainians would be persuaded to give up C, D and L, so that Russia could have her victory and peace could be negotiated, and - in return - they would be granted "their" lands in Poland, within the "union" first, and then when the union breaks up as their legitimate land.

things are slowly picking up

'Slowly' is the keyword here.

depleted now to an unsustainable level

I've heard that before. Russia is never as weak as she seems to be.

any choice?

There's always a choice and should Russians decide to defend those lands at all cost, they will be defended. Whether it would be a wise choice is a different matter.

Not inevitable

Well, the Ukrainian offensive has been rather moderately successful so far, hasn't it? Do you think Russia will just give those lands back?

I agree that some kind of Polish-Ukraine union is a very dumb idea...

Definitely. The idea, however, has been mentioned also by Polish politicians including the one and only Andrzej Duda.

There is something fishy about it. I think that it is just a crafty intrigue to compensate Ukraine for the inevitable loss of their eastern territories. In case of such "union", some part or even the whole of so called Закерзоння would be passed under Ukrainian administration (what's the difference if it is within one country, right?). Of course every union can be broken and then Poland would be left without Przemyśl, Rzeszów and Chełm. Call it paranoia but I would be very careful with such ideas.

OK, there's apparently something wrong with my maths today. xD

It was 10 years for us, so probably 5 for Ukraine.

possible transformation of Ukrainian and Polish statehood into a single union

Not very likely. Even after the war is over. Czechoslovakia didn't work, Yugoslavia didn't work, there's no reason to think that Polkraina/Ukropolia would work.

The best way for Ukraine would be to pursue the EU membership. Poland officially applied for membership in 1994 and it took us 20 years to fulfill all the conditions and adjust our law and economic system to EU standards, before we finally joined in 2004.

Ukrainians are a TurboNation, so it will take you 10 years, maybe 15 at most.

Good luck.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [932]

Perhaps the Soviets were onto something...

They might have made correct observations about the church but they drew wrong conclusions from them.

The existence of venal priests and bishops doesn't prove that religion is bad in itself; just like the existence of corrupt referees and players doesn't prove that football is bad.

I firmly believe that Our Lord Jesus Christ will return one day, and when the King returns it will be a good time for most archbishops and patriarchs to change their diapers. :)

I was talking about saints

You introduced it as an example of Polish and Russian culture.

suggested Polish Church is on par with the Russian Church

When it comes to skurwienie with the ruling party, leeching of taxpayers' money and the levels of hubris, then yes - I'd say they are not very far from each other. Brotherly churches one might say. :)

relatively less "efficient"

When it comes to efficiency then it looks like: Protestantism > Catholicism > Orthodoxy.

However, when it comes to sticking to tradition, we have: Orthodoxy > Catholicism > Protestantism.

Of course, this is an oversimplification. We have protestant denominations who are extremely traditional, and we have Catholic episcopates (e.g. in Germany) that are very progressive.

you are a Russophile

Yes, I am. I said it many times and you repeated it many times. It doesn't change the fact that I try to remain objective, as much as possible, and not let my love for Russia cloud my judgement on important matters. It's called integrity. :)

News / "A merciful heart can share its bread with the hungry and welcome refugees and migrants" Pope Francis [89]

It's clear, he failed to prevent it, but it's also clear he did his best to put a stop to it.

Polish Wiki says that Suworow took no action to prevent it nor did he punish any of the perpetrators.

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obrona_Pragi

Suvorov was so horrified at what was happening

Oh, poor holy man. Poor saint. :) Were the soldiers under his command or not? Did he give an order to stop the slaughter?

Anyways, don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to say that he was either better or worse than any other military commander of his time. All I'm saying is that declaring such man to be a saint is bound to get varied reactions (to put it very mildly).

For some reason, the Cossacks relish butchering Poles.

Ukrainian SS units in Warsaw Uprising proudly continued this tradition. I wonder when they will be pronounced saints!

News / "A merciful heart can share its bread with the hungry and welcome refugees and migrants" Pope Francis [89]

He is known to have been extremely pious, and kind

Pious and kind... hmm... I wonder what prayer he said before the slaughter of Praga...

1

... Catherine II was quite happy though...

2

It is not about applying modern standards to an 18th century military commander. It's about declaring him to be a saint in 2023. It's not about trying to posthumously put Catherine II before the Hague Tribunal - it's about the Pope giving her as an example of greatness to follow.

strange to me to make saints of soldiers

Strange indeed. And, of course, as you said - it is not something chracteristic only of ROC.

One way or another, Pope Francis' attitude towards the war in Ukraine cannot be explained with his "clumsiness" or ambiguous statements which people misinterpret. He is clearly pro-Russian, just as most Orthodox Churches with the obvious exception of UOC (Kiev patriarchate). As for me, I think that mixing religion with politics - especially with war - emits a rather foul stench, as Anti put it. We are witnessing it in Poland, with the unholy alliance of PiS and RCC, and I suppose we are not unique in this regard. People like to use God to justify their greed, hatred and lust for power.

Oh, well... I suppose the older one gets the more disappointed one is bound to become with major, dripping with gold, churches. Życie.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [932]

Polish culture (...) Russian culture

I wouldn't draw any far-reaching conclusions about our respective cultures based on the abovementioned canonization processes. If you look at RCC in Poland, they are similarly supportive towards PiS as ROC is towards the current Russian government. Not much difference there.

Besides, the influence that religion has on general culture either in Poland or in Russia isn't as strong as it would seem to be at first sight.

I thought that is where you recently returned?

That is correct. Luckily, the hierarchical Church can be corrupt or a large part of it can even be heretical (as it was in the times of Saint Athanasius) but the deposit of Catholic Faith remains intact.

I hope you find the answer, soon, to whatever is vexing you.

Thanks.

An eff you sans vulgarity.

Well, I suppose I have my moments. Thanks, Anti.

However, I would trade all my occasional comical skills and sense of humour for one tenth of my former faith in the hierarchical Church. Life used to be simpler in blissful ignorance.

Sorry. I'm a bit of a gloomy pill today. :-/

News / "A merciful heart can share its bread with the hungry and welcome refugees and migrants" Pope Francis [89]

In both RCC and ROC there are many great priests, monks, nuns, even an occasional bishop. It's the top rank (archbishops, exarchs, cardinals, patriarchs) that is the most venal and corrupt.

They have no faith. The bishops who refuse the access to church files in paedophile cases, corrupt local episcopates who live off state money and serve the political rulers, local churches who canonize war criminals, mockery of sacraments etc. The only way to explain it is that they don't believe in God. Simple as that.

Something not quite right is going on in the mainstream Christianity these days. Comrade Bergoglio's usual antics aside, here's what Russian Orthodox Church is planning to do...

newsinfrance.com/the-russian-orthodox-church-can-start-the-canonization-process-of-suvorov/

... they are going to canonize Александр Васильевич Суворов - the butcher of Praga. Is this the kind of great Russian saints the Pope was talking about?

What an unfortunate turn of events in the two largest mainstream Christianity denominations... quite sad ... or am I missing something... hmmm...

EDIT:

Nice one, Anti. Any idea why ROC are planning to canonize the Butcher of Praga? It will probably be received in Poland in a similar manner to UOC canonizing Shukhevych (which they don't plan to do, I hope).
