Food / Polish food in Pictures. [277]

I made kapuśniak the other day. Mmmm....

I made small golabki last week but didn't take a picture (was in too much of a hurry to eat :) Made a tomato sauce to go with them and they were...lovely... :)

We should collect recipes and have a cook book printed. All proceeds to go to a needy Polish family.

Now I would like to see that in the shops "The Official PolishForums.com Cookbook". Imagine that...

Life / Calendar of Polish Name Days [36]

There are some threads on Name Days already on PF so you could browse through them.

More popular names appear often on the name day calender. Traditionally your name day is the first one after your birthday. However, you can really choose which one you like. My birthday is in November and my first name day appears in April. Some people celebrate their "Imieniny" some don't.

Travel / Poland wildlife and similar wild life where you live. [240]

Aren't they the only mamal that can fly? others glide but bats fly?.

That's correct. While they can physically fly other mammals can only launch and glide. They have a scientific name of Chiroptera. Basically instead of forearms/forepaws they have wings. Pipistrelles are the most common here and during the summer (because of location) I see lots in the late evening. :)

Was it removed????

Not if it was a picture of food - no way! ;)

Most likely it was too big and never appeared. I only ever saw two. Resize it and try again...please! ;)

Yes, this a problem. :)

My friends boyfriend cooks a lot but I have never had the chance to take pictures, but now I will make sure. He is a great cook. :)

Hey guys ...for Christmas I made my first batch of Kapusta.

That's great. :) Where are the pictures though? ;)

Now I have to move on to something new for my second dish to make that is Polish.

I found that gołąbki is not that difficult to make, it is just time consuming. Also placki ziemniaczane is pretty easy to make and many kinds of kotlet. :) Keep up the cooking. :)

Travel / Why do you visit Poland? [222]

From that wonderful photo you posted, I can see why :)

Seconded. It's an awesome photo. :)

I added another option to the poll for visitors of the country.

Yes SeanBM, you live there. Don't worry, you residents will be included in a poll soon. ;)

Travel / Why do you visit Poland? [222]

I was supposed to be there twice this year but other circumstances prevented that. :( 2009 should be a better year for travelling to Poland. :D

Travel / Why do you visit Poland? [222]

For vacation
To visit family/friends
I visit to conduct business every now and then
I am considering moving there
I live outside of Poland but travel there to work frequently
I am researching family history there
I don't visit Poland
I visit to attend social/formal events

More and more Poland becomes a country that people visit for various reasons. What is your reason? Please vote in the poll. :)

Love / Do Polish Women age well? [153]

I think if you post a thread questioning whether women age well or not you're going to outrage...well, women. ;)

I sometimes look at older women (I'll be one soon ;) and compare those who've had major surgery and those who've just left nature to it's own devices. It's all very well looking at celebs who have hit their 40's, 50's, 60's and don't have wrinkles, have no facial sagging, no sagging of their chests but most likely they had a lot of surgery and then that's what we end up comparing our "ordinary" older women to. Plus women age differently due to their genes, their diet and lifestyles etc.

Food / Polish food in Pictures. [277]

Well, begin! I had only tasted Polish food, never cooked it until recently. Daunting task to cook gołąbki for the first time and as you see by the first pictures I posted, they were OK but not great. It just takes time.

Seems you're gentler with a grater than me anyway. :)

I look forward to your pictures of kotlet schabowy. :)

Very disappointed tonight PD. Give up watching corrie to come to your cookery class, and what do I find? No recipe just a...

Lol, apologies to my students. ;) There is a reasonable excuse, I bought a new camera today (to get even better pictures!) but the rechargable battery was needing charged. Next time I'll take loads... ;)

I hope this class picks up next week again, with or without a new grater :)

Maybe next week, maybe in 2 weeks. Not sure. If there's anything next week it won't be something difficult.

While we're at it (and you're giving me a hard time ;) where's the pictures of all the delicious dishes you've cooked? ;)

grated on the smallest holes

I've seen them made with the potato grated either through the small holes and the large holes. It's irrelevant now anyway...since my grater broke I only have the bit with the big holes. So until I buy a new one everything gets grated that way. ;)

I made gołąbki today but I won't be posting a picture. I used a savoy cabbage today for a change and it worked out OK, they didn't wrap as well as with white cabbage leaves but with a bit of persuasion they stayed wrapped and were tasty! :)

Then again, I read through lots of recipes and they all said "grated". Hmmm...
