USA, Canada / Help get my girlfriend to Canada! [19]

thanks a lot for the great advice, I actually am experienced in copywriting, as I did that for my boss as she was terrible at it when she first started her business. I suppose I could proof-read as well, I have always been proficient in grammar and English composition. Sadly I suspect these skills wouldn't be as appreciated on the internet as a whole, at least not as much as they are on this site. Once again thanks to all who commented to keep this post on the top of the forums so that someone with a little sympathy might see it.

it takes a lot more courage to put yourself out there than to insult people from the safety of your parents basement, fellow clown ;)

USA, Canada / Help get my girlfriend to Canada! [19]

Hello, I'm just posting to see if there is anyone here who can afford a few dollars, złoty, cents, or groszy, to help get my amazing girlfriend to canada to visit me this summer. We are both poor students, from lower class families, and we are trying to work our way up and figure out what to do. I visited her already by way of a miracle, and I'm turning to the internet for help for another one. I can't think of any bigger source of miracles than the internet these days.

As you can read on our donation page, my girlfriend is polish and I'm canadian. I love the polish culture and I really enjoyed my time in gliwice. I hope my girlfriend will feel the same about canada! So if you think you would want to help us out, visit the page below! Every good thing starts with some kindness :)

Life / Please help me, with deciding a good Polish name for my baby boy :) [48]

Believe me, in Canada...there are names from all over the world. So it isn't too bad here :-)

Btw, I've always had my name: Kasia here. I never changed to Kate or Kathy. It never bothered me & no, I was never bullied either.

As a boring scottish background canadian ive always felt a little left out with my typical name. So if you have interesting heritage, its always a good idea to show it off in canada :D

Law / Is there some way to extend the residence permit here in Poland? I have a tourist visa. [50]

what the prospective employer has to do is write the specification for the desired employee in a way that means the chances of a Pole fitting that specification is very slim.

And that would be a legal way of getting a job? wouldn't someone notice if the employer manipulates the job requirements?
this is an interesting development.

i wonder if teaching guitar lessons privately is an activity that i would need a work permit for, or if it falls under the art category.

However, your chances of finding that in January are remote in Gliwice.

oh well, i suspected as much.

The above are for Krakow but the rules are the same nationwide.

Thanks a lot, this really helps.

also, do any of you know if there is an expat community, or native English speakers (or Canadians) in Gliwice? i know there is a comparatively high proportion of polish English speakers due to the university town.

hello again, I have looked at the conditions for getting an employer to apply for a work permit, and i read that the voivod will only grant one for a foreigner if there are no polish candidates for the job. As i am only a high school graduate, from a poor family (meaning i have no sort of connections) i guess this means it would be completely impossible to get even the most basic job seeing as pretty much every polish citizen is automatically preferred :(

ah sorry, i misspoke. but it is possible to get one while in poland correct? also, is a Polish typical CV similar to an american one? i have heard that the Polish ones in general are more detailed.

No, you aren't allowed to work on a tourist visa. You need to have the work permit *and* an application under way for a residence permit.

eh i guess i was looking at the not required for 90 days business visa.

yes, i have heard that that sort of process for school documents takes a long time.

so from what you are saying, it would be pretty difficult to have even the possibility of extending my stay, and i would most likely have to leave the schengen zone for 90 days.

and it is possible to get a work permit for any certain job while in Poland, correct? meaning you don't have to be in your home country to apply for the permit. although i feel there is a distinct lack of jobs for English speakers specifically, which is as it should be, but i couldn't expect to get a job in 90 days, and apply for necessary work permits.

maybe it would be good of me to note that i would be allowed to work during the 90 day period.

In theory, yes. But if they refuse to grant the visa extension (which isn't in law anywhere - it's at their discretion) - you'd have to leave at 90 days. The only way to guarantee that you'll get a decision is to apply before the 45th day in the Schengen zone.

ahhh i thought you meant that they would grant you an automatic extension of sorts until they decide to approve, i guess that's too much to hope for haha.

and yes, i know about the limits, the last thing i would want to do is overstay my visa.

hmmm i wonder if the paper work is possible due to my already having been in school.

thanks for your help so far.

and to Harry:

that seems reasonable, so certainly it would have to be grouped with something like a job or lease agreement.

What kind of activities would qualify as a reason? work, studying, rental agreement? any or all of those? or even possibly friends or relatives?

And as i understand it you could potentially apply at the last day of the 90 limit and receive and extension for at least the duration of the applicant consideration? that would be a interesting loophole :D

Work / Canadian moving to Poland - Work Permits, Work Visas and a few questions [5]

Merged: Youth Mobility Visa for Canadians

Hi, I am wondering if there is anyone on this forum who has ever gotten a youth mobility visa to Poland, or any other type of extended visa for that matter. I am looking into getting one from the Polish embassy in Canada, but I can't really find much information on which grounds they grant them. According to the website for Canada's youth mobility agreement, all you have to do is have enough funds for a few months, and state that you will be looking for a job. Seems simple enough, and apparently they can grant them for up to 12 months. Maybe the catch is that if you don't find work in Poland (pretty likely for an English speaking foreigner) they deport you. And I don't want that to happen, so I'm hesitant to apply.

If anyone knows anything about this I would appreciate your input. Thanks.

Also, if someone knows anything about the chances of English jobs in Gliwice for young people, it would be great to hear. I looked into an international application for Super-Pharm, since they are canadian, but predictably Polish was required.

Study / Polish universities for economics that teach in English [26]

Yes thank you, i know exactly what you mean. For some universities i have seen things like this on the tuition fee pages:
single price enrolment fee for EU students
enrolment fee plus yearly tuition for students outside EU

So that would suggest that even non-Polish students can get free education at Polish universities.

Study / Polish universities for economics that teach in English [26]

Ah thanks for your replies, I got a lot of good advice from this :)

Also, do you know if its true that studies in Poland are free if you are a Polish Citizen? To be honest, it has been a long time since I wrote this post, and I am actually considering switching for something else, but I just don't know what yet :p. And as far as language goes, I don't speak any other than english, although I'm trying to get a start in Polish on my own first.

Study / Polish universities for economics that teach in English [26]

Hello all, I am new to this forum, I have read it for a long time, but now I've decided to get involved :).

So I'm from Canada as you may have guessed, and I go to university for economics. I'm curious about schools in Poland for economics, I have heard of two, Krakow University of Economics, and one in Warsaw, I forget the name. So anyway's I'm wondering if there are any other schools of economics in Poland that teach in English, as those two seem to be out of my price range. Also does anyone know how being an international student in Poland is ?

Anyways I would enjoy talking to someone going to university in economics, or any other foreigners who are going to school abroad anywhere, or just anyone for that matter :D

Thanks !
