News / Coal-Powered Poland Refuses to "Go Green". EU Ain't Happy. [304]

I hardly think her politicians knocking the science of global warming is a plus for Poland.

It isn't

I'm not going to rehash the global warming debate, and neither should Poland. The established science makes anyone who does look archaic and contrary.

Exactly.

Shale gas

Environmentally dreadful.

News / American soldiers beat up in Torun, Łódź [141]

But not being white makes the chance of getting into a fight a hell of a lot higher. As anybody who has any personal experience (you very clearly do not) will tell you. Do you actually know any non-white people who have spend time in Poland?

When I came to Poland I worked for a company that employed 80 foreigners, about 50 of them male, 48 of them white. Guess what the two who were attacked by strangers had in common.

Actually there wasn't. The notion that the earth orbits the sun was being talked about since the 3rd Century AD, if not earlier and was known to scientists.

Ya see the thing is man, that there is no climate change debate, you guys lost, it's over, now just do everyone a favour and separate your trash, burn less coal, walk to the shops instead of driving and help the earth out a bit, it all helps if everyone just does their bit and stops dragging their heels

Very true. The worst offender over the past 100 years has been ethyl lead used in cars and various industrial processes. That and the vastly expanding human population.

And GDP's are rising, production increasing, the worlld's population is increasing at a horrific rate and the Chinese are now making and producing cars. Sea levels are rising, species are becoming extinct, the world's climate is changing and we have a ticking time bomb.

where?

The population of Kiribati have to leave soon and the Maldives are threatened. Next could be lowland Bangladesh.

i don't claim Earth self-regulates perfectly - I say we don't know enough to be able to judge

Very good that you don't claim that, because you would be wrong. What has been established beyond reasonable doubt is that man-made climate change is a huge threat to life on our planet.

heh - you've seen it or just repeat whatever you hear on the TV? - for one thing Kiribati and Maledives experience the least of tides on the ocean so the rising ocean levels would be prette obvious there (unless the islands are sinking because of geological processes)

I don't have anything as trashy as a TV but I do keep up to date on current events. Here's one of thousands of reports on the effect man-made climate change is having on Kiribati. I'm not sure what you think tides have to do with it, but rising sea levels are all to visible there.

globalpost.com/dispatch/news/green/global-warming/120308/rising-sea-levels-forcing-entire-nation-kiribati-relocate

Man-made climate change and its dangers are an established fact. Poland needs to respond to that as much as any other developed nation.

I am not sure there has ever been any fresh ground water on Kiribati in living memory pal

That has nothing to do with it. And also untrue - Kiribati has groundwater. The sea levels are rising. This is a known fact. Unless you know something The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change doesnt ;-)

Are you denying the reality of man-made climate change and its threat to the ecosystem?

if sea levels would be rising noticeably it will be easily observed on various pier

Do you realise how silly that sounds? Why not stand on the end of the pier in Sopot and stare at the tides? The rise in sea level has been observed and is not seriously doubted.

secondly it wouldn't affect even the likes of Kiribati and Maledives

It not only would, but is.

Poland as a developed country has its role to play. Why not be at the forefront rather than lagging behind?

So. Do you deny the reality of man-made climate change?

Work / BEWARE of K&S Krakowska Szkoła Języków Obcych!! [41]

happens quite often?

No it doesn't.

This is for those for who either have come to Poland for an enjoyable working experience, or for those who are already in Poland looking for extra teaching work or to gain employment. All the best in Poland and good luck!

And a few enquiries have shown that there's similar stuff about this in various places on the internet, but none of them where one would normally post about a rogue school, and none of them written by a native speaker of English.

Life / Warsaw Philharmonia - keeping the smelly plebs out! [8]

the season tickets are VERY CHEAP

All well and good. They provide up-front income. There are a couple of dozen permutations. I've had one for a few years - when I'm out of the country on my travels i give the tickets to others. I used to have a full season ticket for Opera North and was always glad of being able to get the same box - at the Warsaw Philharmonic they're generally much cheaper, but if you get a full ticket, the price isn't low.

Everyone would buy season tickets if they could, but only nomenklatura can have them!!

I've never had a problem. The best thing about getting one of the season tickets is that they ensure that people who are committed to attending concerts won't have problems getting in to one of the more popular concerts due to the tickets being sold out to people who otherwise wouldn't go there from one month to the next.

News / Drunken Brit beats up young Polish policewoman [62]

I agree. If this was a violent crime by a Pole in the UK, it wouldn't merit an article, never mind a photo. At best three lines in the courts page. In any case, knowing the Polish police, I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to it.

I agree, there should be a custodial sentence for assaulting police in cases where it is proven beyond doubt to have happened. But whose evidence is more believable and likely to be true - a tourist, drunk or not, or a Polish police 'officer' without independent corroboration?

Life / In case you didn't hate Polish drivers yet.... [15]

I think so too. They should seriously crack down on parking in bus stops. Pavements too where access for pedestrians and wheelchair users is blocked.

News / Polish final report on Smoleńsk aircrash [853]

conspired to divert the presidents plane, by defenition thats a conspiracy.

No conspiracy, no reason for a conspiracy, no mystery - just pilot error.

In any case - why on earth would the Russians want to assassinate an unpopular one-term Polish Head of State?

So you are saying that the trash is innocent and two police officers are liares ?

Yes - Polish police officers are very often liars. I wouldn't even accept a confession if it wasn't made in the presence of a lawyer and if the accused is a foreign citizen, in the presence of somebody from the embassy.

Rioters from Jamaica represented the largest group of foreign inmates, followed by Somali and Polish offenders. The list also included those from Colombia, Iraq, Congo, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.

That's amazing. I wonder why?

Food / Could you recommend me a fresh Polish juice from fruit? [18]

a superfood,

Indeed. And a very traditional British ingredient. The main problem with elderberries though is the amount of Tannin - mixed with apple, the effect is somewhat mitigated. Personally I prefer cordial made from the blossom, elderflower. Both make good wine.

And I still think the thread is fishy. Not just because of guest posters pretending to be native speakers but also because of saying they hadn't been paid for months but for some reason were still working there. Plus similar posts, no doubt from the same individuals, on different fora none of which the right ones. It just doesn't add up.
