News / Poland's Ruch Narodowy - should it be banned? [62]

In democracies, ideally you don't ban things unless they harm society and individuals. If however this 'organisation' break the law they get prosecuted. Whether they can survive the fines is their problem.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [698]

circumcision (male or female) is founded within religion?

No. Male circumcision was adopted as a health practice in times when religion played a bigger role in life that it does today, encompassing laws, medicine, science etc. and some of the religions that have survived from those times still advocate it. Some of them, for example Islam, do it only as a matter of tradition. No religion as far as I know advocates female circumcision.

News / Hooligans in PRL times ... and Warsaw in 2012 [28]

My thoughts entirely.

It's quite comical to see a troll describe the fascist hooligans as unorganised, especially since they managed to get round to inviting a delegation from Hungary. Disorganisation indeed.

Who cares. What happened thousands of years ago when medical knowledge was beyond primitive is irrelevant today. And BTW, Abraham is not 'avinu' for most people.

UK, Ireland / Domestic arguments caused by differences between Polish and English culture [109]

Because it makes food taste better

Because it increases the flavour of a bland diet!

and it's good for you as well ;-)

Salt????

You wouldn't survive long without salt in your diet.

Most people get more salt than they actually need from eating cheese or any processed food occasionally.

Off-Topic / Languages you [dis]like [9]

Tagalog sounds good. Xhosa does sound weird. I like the sound of Czech. I can't abide the sound of Latvian or Lithuanian - even worse than Finnish and Estonian. Dutch sounds like somebody vomiting. Welsh and Scots Gaelic don't sound very nice but But I can listen to Irish all day. Same goes for Maltese.

News / Polish things marketing turnoffs? [12]

Polish linen.

A very good product - makes nice presents.

I like Boleslawiec, but there are rather too many things being produced at the moment and a lot of it is very close to kitsch Cepelia tat.

Some Polish products that are overhyped in Poland and poor quality are mens' clothes: Vistula, Wolczanska, Royal collection, etc. Not cheap and not good.

UK, Ireland / Better being female in UK or Poland? [4]

taking advantage of some of the laws in place here around domestic violence, abortion

Poland also has strong domestic violence laws and zero tolerance campaigns. Statistics show that Polish women in the UK are also taking advantage of their right to terminate pregnancies.

I don't have a problem buying Polish if it is a good product.

What do you think of Zepter products?

Remember that the quality of factory-made products in PL used to be very poor, and that image will take at least a generation to change.

Plus an almost landlocked country with no Empire and lots of domestic products is the ideal place for consumers to favour imported goods. They even still buy imported exotic hardwoods that aren't socially acceptable to buy in much of the rest of Europe.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [698]

Well, you country right seems like it wants to be circumcised, and go to Israel to have holy temple sex

That doesn't make much sense. Or any sense.

If you actually read the bible instead of just bad mouthing it,

Read it all thanks. Several times. In English and both original languages.

t you can't just "Get off" by saying you do not care

I don't care.

TEMPLE SEX

What's that? Is it fun?

And what about the fact that EU courts are still based on European Christian Cannon Law

No they aren't.

t Ezekial had to do to all the temple sex worshippers (that is nuke the whole middle east!)

Go and take a pill. It's time for your meds.

I would like it to be so, because the war dead will never get justice under Teutinic Knights Christian Courts!

Better still, take two.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

I can assure you that I am not

You are, alas, mistaken.

I usualy eat schabowy and bigos

Not a very varied diet.

I'm a beer drinker.

Not 'Central European' wines?

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

It's really amusing how terribly wrong you are

Maybe you should try harder. Perhaps you don't ever eat pierogi, kasza, gołąbki, kielbasa, cabbage soup, and countless other things, or even drink vodka? Perhaps not.

"щи да каша - пища наша"

mitteleuropa

You do seem very very confused about the concept of Mittleuropa. I suspect you actually half believe that Poland isn't in Eastern Europe. That or trying to troll.

By the way, your 'use' of wikipedia is somewhat selective.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

and some not

And some no doubt quite exotic. The everyday stuff is firmly in the Eastern European tradition.

Just get over it.

German

The 'Eastern Territories' of Germany, you mean?

Mittleeuropa didn't extend further into Poland than the Austrian zabór. Ever. And even then, only the cities.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

I think we are putting more emphasis on the concept 'west/central/east Europe' than we should be.

There's something in that, however the Central Europe that some people wish Poland was part of is the old Mitteleuropa, bits of Germany, bits of The Empire etc - you can still find it in Prague, Vienna, even Berlin, however mostly only ghosts remain.

It's really amusing how some people can't accept certain things :D

So you're still pretending you think Polish food isn't firmly within the Eastern European tradition?

Life / A rant about "patriotism" in today's Poland [60]

How about Lao Che - they got famous because of their patriotic songs commemorating Warsaw Uprising.

Good music. It would be pushing it a bit to bracket them with the sort of thugs and dullards who hide more sinister views beheind a veneer of patriotism.

History / Goodbye Lenin - we don't want you in Poland! [85]

Really? Or just a dislike of extremists like the 'ONR' who have no shortage of vicious ideology of their own to promote.

The "way you are talking" Varsovian, sounds like you "have some sympathy" for the uniformed extreme right...

To most people the ONR are neo-nazis and fascists. If they want to pretend otherwise, they should think about toning down the uniforms, flags and political demonstrations.
