Genealogy / Does anyone have any relatives who served with 1st Polish Armoured Division (Gen. Maczek) [310]

Hello Hitman - I was so excited to see my father's name, Kazimierz Goszcz, on the list you posted from the journal kept by a member of the 1st Polish Armoured Division. Sadly, my father died in 1999. He was always proud of his military service and often marched in Veterans Day parades. I have an old photo of my father with some of his fellow soldiers on a tank that I will upload soon. What other information do you have in the journal? I would very much appreciate your sharing any additional documents or photos that you have. I am trying to find more information about my father's time in the military. I look forward to hearing from you and to visiting this forum often.

Love / Polish Wedding Blessing [16]

I believe there is a traditional Polish Wedding Blessing that involves wine and bread and maybe salt? Can anyone tell me what the tradition is all about and what words to say at the marriage ceremony?

Thank you for your help.

Genealogy / Goszcz family ancestry?? [3]

Does anyone have information about the Goszcz family from Gołonóg in Silesia region? I am just beginning to research my ancestry and don't have much information yet.

My father's name was Kazimierz Goszcz, born 1916, his father's name was Stefan Goszcz and mother's was Maria. He had a brother named Boleslaw Goszcz and a sister named Stefa, but I don't know her surname. I think Boleslaw's son was named Zbigniew Goszcz. He had more siblings but I don't know their names.

He served in the 1st Polish Armoured Division in WWII and married Anna Magdalena Eisel, a German, in 1947. They lived in Belgium after the war where he worked in the Waterschei coal mine. They immigrated to USA in 1953.

Any information about the family would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

History / Russian Labor Camps pre-WWII (in the regions of Poland) [7]

Where can I find information about the round-up of Polish citizens before WWII by the Russians? My father, now deceased, was captured as a young man before the war in Silesia region of Poland and sent to Siberia to work for 3+ years on constructing the railroad between Moscow and Vorkuta. When he was released he joined the First polish Armoured Division and went to Scotland and England. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.
