Genealogy / SKI...SKY...ZKI...Polish surname endings [38]

If you speak polish then try to find : "Polskie nazwiska" on wikipedia. You can read there about polish surnames a lot more (pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polskie_nazwiska).

History / Terrible past for the Jews in Poland? [930]

how about the portrayal of Jews in Polish literature

Very good proposal :) Jankiel - jew from Pan Tadeusz by Adam Mickiewicz. He was described as a patriot, probably played the character of Rabbi Jakub Natan.

UK, Ireland / There's not a lot wrong with Poles in the UK. There's just too many of them. [72]

The original meaning has changed in modern English what you are referring to is white supremacist. All we have here is someone scapegoating the Polish. But don't let him put you off England/Britain. The world is Y(ours).

:) erghhh, I wasn't referring to it, rather ironically to modern trends :). I don't belive that whites are "Übermenschen".

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

90% of Polish people I have chatted to have racist view towards Asian and black people in the UK

Few years before Poland joined European Union I took a trip to London. On the first day in this beautiful city, on Oxford Street next to fountain, I asked one gentelman to take a photo. He did. Then he asked where am I from. I said: from Poland with big smile on my face. Then I heard : "you fooking polish, you fooking..." This was my first day in England.

If there is no racism against Poles, then what does it mean??

According to the United Nations Convention :

the term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin that has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life.

Hmmm, intresting. I didn't notice it before but now i checked it again and in polish translation of "racial discrimination" shall mean=does mean :). In this term racial discrimination = ethnic discrimination. I knew I was describing xenophobia, but I don't know what to think about this term of "racial discrimination".

History / History of European and Poland's anti-semitism [192]

That's pretty well true.I still hear some bizarre things here in Warsaw though. Not long ago, I referred to Chalka as Jewish bread (which it is) and the response was "It's not Jewish, there's nothing wrong with it".

Are you sure it wasn't malicious joke?? Of course Poles know chałka is traditionally Jewish, best with fresh butter btw. :P So now you have two responses :I know chałka is Jewish and I like it, and there is nothing wrong with it.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

Listen ******* get them back first then you can talk about importing semi civilized immigrants

Ohh please grubas, why are you so serious??? It's just theoretical discussion. Pawian is a teacher not a politician. I agree with your last words, it's not good if people are leaving despite of political propaganda of success.

Life / Do trailer park people exist in Poland? [18]

it's simple: all "blokersi" are "dresiarze" but not all "dresiarze" are "blokersi" :)
I live in blok and I'm not "blokers" but many of my neighbours are- not most, but many..especially those who live in social (public money) blok. From my experience describing my neighbours: they love Peja (polish rap music?? ), wear tracksuit - but I would love to see them in dress ;), I didn't notice any chains but probably many of them wear it, they are bald or close to be bald, stand in front of the block for half a day, smoking cigarettes and talking, making stupid comments when they don't know you..if they knew you they will probably say "good morning, hello, good evening".

Love / Do Polish couples have children outside wedlock ? [14]

O.k. sorry I didn't check your profile ;).yes, it happens, but most people get married sooner or later. Sometimes this depends on your financial status, marriage involves costs, especially Polish wedding. Sometimes incompatibility of characters makes that people split :) - immaturity. Having children outside marriage, especially being married to another person, betrayal is criticized.

Poland does have strict laws but it is not illegal.

Yes, it is illegal except these three circumstances you pointed out. " Exception proves the rule ".
