UK, Ireland / Grateful Polish photographer stitches up his Welsh hosts [96]

Communists killed and destroyed the best Poles and it had to have consequences.

I can't agree with this sentence. Communismus force people to forget about the religion, to hate Germans, to love Russian, to consider their neighbours as a police informant etc... Poles had a mental fight with communismus attitude and the solidarity born. In fact the comminismus time joined Poles. Unfortunately bad habits still exist...

News / Polish national lotto lottery (today 20 000 000 PLN to win) [16]

As far as I know it's still not finished, noone won in the previous game, so the cumulation is even bigger than recently. Will you buy coupons ? I'm about to do it this time... My greed is stronger than my sense... :)

Life / Are Polish people so chaotic and disorganized like Germans say? [89]

Look at the local governments in Poland, at the bueraucrats in local agencies... a mess is our speciality :) Look at the road builders for example... Some time ago, around 5 years ago, I used to drive to the Czech Republic for business issues. I passed by the building site of the petrol station on A4 motorway. There was around 10 people staying in a circle, one man was working... look at this link: anthillz.net/zdzichu.html, the same situation. On the other side of the border (in Czech), there was a building site of a bridge. In one month the bridge was almost finished, in the same time period in Poland... hehe, you probably expect... was done almost nothing :)

Private companies in PL are more organized, much more.

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [124]

Jokes about mathematics, mathematicians and teachers of mathematics

This is an International informatics joke... not strictly Polish, but hard to understanding for a layman in informatics theory:

There is only 10 types of people, these who understand binary and these who don't :)

Life / Can any young Poles can still speak Russian [25]

But we can read it with understanding.

It's not so easy... there is a different alphabet... I know their letters but it's really hard for me to read their words. Many of them is understandable for me, but only after decryption from their letters :)

USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

Everyone can vote for the party they like, but... what would PiS do for Polish Americans ?... Voting by Polish Americans doesn't make any sense for me, if they don't live here, why they vote ? I don't want to disenfranchise anyone, but I don't see the target of this voting :)

History / Poland: Her heroes and her traitors [214]

What is your opinion about Zbigniew Brzezinski ? Is it a hero or a traitor ?

Situation here is quite complex, he was sentenced for death in Poland, I really don't know how looks his law status for the moment in Poland.

Are you sure you are not thinking about Ryszard Kukliński?

I must admit, I have made a mistake, of course I meant Ryszard Kuklinski, sorry.

History / Poland: Her heroes and her traitors [214]

Around 50 min before your post, I posted that I made mistake and the person I meant was Kuklinski. Brzezinski is still alive as Wikipedia says...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zbigniew_Brzezinski

Kuklinski is dead, so his status is closed and history will justice him, in my personal opinion, he was a traitor...

in my personal opinion your logic is pretty deficient - I'm sure you would still like to live under communism

Everyone who has different opinion than you is wrong ?:)

If you are sure that I want to live under communism, when you don't know me, you should try to bet in Lotto...

R. Kukliński betrayed people who he had worked with, that's all.

History / Poland: Her heroes and her traitors [214]

you know some people worked with Hitler - if any of them some day defected would you rejoice or send them in front of a firing squad - if you were caught up in some evil practices does it make sense to stay loyal who you are with in these practices (like being in mafia) - capsisci?

I don't know anyone who worked with Hitler :) The truth is that if you join to some organisation, you are aware of the consequences. Neither Hitler associates nor any coloner from Polish Army were forced to be decission person in the top of the authority. Doesn't matter if you are in Army or mafia or government or anything other. If you betray, you are a traitor... That's my opinion.

maybe you are just a simple guy who will just cover for your friends whatever they do - sure you can call it loyalty and even honour - I call it tribalism and the lack of percepiton of higher morals

Dear gumishu... this thread is not about me, so don't judge me if you don't know me. I found you are very aggressive to me, it's your only reaction to persons who have other opinion than you ?...

History / Poland: Her heroes and her traitors [214]

He stayed loyal to Poland.
And what's a problem with betraying traitors? I would do the same.

The problem is more complex I think, he shared secret info from one superstate to another... Look, if there is any person who shared American info to USSR, is he a hero or traitor ?:)

Take a look calmly isn't it depending on position of view ? I'm pretty sure that the opinions about traitors and heroes would be completelly different if USSR still exists and if the position of the USA is weaker :)

Isn't it ?

Where is your loyalty? Are you loyal to stronger?

I'm loyal to Poland... in any case, if Poland is strong or weak...

And where is your loyality retroDog_0 ?

There were lots of people supportig him wgen USSR was stil strong.
they were just afraid to speak.

It's true, but has no connections with Kuklinski betrayal...

The difference is that I'm not afraid to speak about it (in part thanks to him) and I'm not afraid that SB or KGB will knock at my door.
So, no, you are wrong.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not... Nowadays ABW can knock your door :) I think methods are comparable, maybe not such brutal as in the communism times.

Life / Lightbulbs in Poland: what was once 1zl now costs... [10]

@Wroclaw: I think you have a street lamp close to your window, you can save money on lightbulbs :)

To be sure, the EU forces any country associated to replace old style bulbs with new energy-save bulbs, but the fact is that you can save money on energy ONLY when the light is on during a long time period. Enegry-save bulbs need to big energy to start and to get warm enough to operate cost-effective as far as I know.

Yes yes... ABS is not going to knock to anyone...

If we follow your logic, then Franciszek Zubrzycki was a hero 30 years ago and now he is not. You are saying that it doesn't matter what he did, it only matters who is in charge. That is soft skull thinking.

I presented a point of view (hypothetical), if you don't understand it, I think we can't discuss, you think I'm stupid... I have comparable opinion about you... :) That's all.

Life / Lightbulbs in Poland: what was once 1zl now costs... [10]

@peterweg: Yes, you are right. Wroclaw is going to buy bulbs for a house usage, so he will turn on and turn off the light quite frequently. Lifetime of energy-save bulbs is not so long, especially when they are being turned on and off many times, additionally they are quite expensive.

Is it a problem to you he betrayed the Soviet Union and Polish communists?

I have different problems than Kuklinski...

I had an opinion as the majority of people writing on this thread until I had a conversation with a veteran soldier from Armia Ludowa. These people believe in what they did. The current idea is to deprave the old political system, it was not ok, that's true, but people were right. Maybe not people on the top of the authority, but people on lower positions were not (probably) involved in bad political games.

Kuklinski was a controversial person, but I think he betrayed people who he worked with.

I would like to say that I'm not a fanatic of communism, USSR, PO, PiS, PZPR and another political organisation... :)

Do you suggest Kukliński didn`t love his country when he passed Soviet and Polish communist secrets to CIA?

As I see only you wrote it... what is the connection between my love to my country and Kuklinski's feelings ...? I don't know the intentions of Kuklinski.

I don't want to argue with you, because many (if not all) your agruments are right but you are quoting selected sentences from my posts and comment, but don't see my general mind. There was few uprising after 1945, almost all of them was pacified by milicja or other communist military organisation. I wrote my opinion about one guy... please don't suggest to me that I glorify communism... it's really funny to me. But as I see I'm created by you as the lawyer of cummunism :) Like Jerzy Urban... what's your opinion about this man ? I would like to add that I like them, I'm still in minority ?:)

Maybe I'm not experienced by the communism, when this political system was gone, I was 12 years old, I saw the poverty in these times, empty shops etc.

What do you mean when you say that you are loyal to Poland?

The question was about my loyality... and my answer was to this question directly, doesn't have any relation with Kuklinski, that's for a start.

If you want to know more things about my loyality or patriotism, I will answer for your questions with a pleasure:

What do you mean when you say that you are loyal to Poland?

I live here, want to stay here and want to build good Poland.

To What or to whom you are loyal specifically?

I'm not loyal with any specified person, if you expect me to specify any person, I won't, because I'm independent in my thoughts. I'm loyal with this country, I pay taxes, respect this country law.

Would a fact that Poland in times of Kuklinski's act wasn't interdependent country played no part in your loyalty?

My loyality to Poland has no connections with communism, Kuklinski, Jaruzelski, Rakowski, Kaczynski, Gorbaczow and many other persons.

I'm trying to understand your position and a little help from you would be appreciated.

I hope that I helped you to understand me.

you like whom? Urban and Nie? well - de gustibus.. hehe - if you don't know what you like I will point it out for you - (if it is really Urban that you like) - it is cynicism - I wonder if you like Palikot too

I will tell you something... Polish politics is so boring that I think we need something funny to make our days more colorful.

Urban is outside the active politics, but his position is so strong that can bring bad emotions when his name is pronounced :) I know his black history and don't praise him because of the past, but this guy has so impartial approach for political facts (especialy current) that I respect him.

If you ask about Palikot, I think this guy is mendacious, his political party is a creation of PR (public relations), I must his presence in Sejm (his party presence) was an effect of a very good job before the elections. It's very colorful and controversial man, he is very visible amongst gray majority of Polish politicians. But he is in Sejm, and it's third power there. To be sure (I suppose) that many people voted for him because of the protestation against boring wars between PO and PiS, other words... the protestations against Polish current politics.

I saw in some other post the name of another interesting man in Polish politics, Janusz Korwin-Mikke :) I was on few his lectures, when he visited the student dorm where I used to live during studies. He is very radical person, but some of his theses are right. In general he is... funny and have no chances to be elected to Sejm.

Good. Now look at what would have happened if WW3 had broken out. Poland and Germany would have been destroyed by nuclear counterstrikes. Kukliński knew about it and tried to prevent such a situation.

Maybe yes, maybe not... I don't believe in any propaganda. If you want to discuss about Polish history, we can go for the beer and talk. I'm "an expert" in Festung Breslau :)

and if you think Palikot and his bunch are anti-establishment then think again

I'm not a fan of Palikot, but I must say that he is the bigger winner of this election, isn't he ?

That's normal that Palikot didn't do it himself, that was a big work of media, it's true. But he was so controversial and visible that any TV stations want him to show. I don't care about his intentions, he will change nothing in Poland, but there will be more funny than before...
