Work / Moving to Poland with Family - cost of living and salary? [46]

life in Poland has become very expensive

Tell me about it... It would be nice if you sign up for the forum so people can write to you.

Amit, kaisa ho? do a research on what the average going salary for the position in the local market (many large agencies publish such reports annually in English, and they even give separate numbers for each major city) and find out where you stand. The apartment you are looking for is big by local standards. Let me give you some numbers to help you establish a baseline. The numbers I am going to list are monthly, including tax and in PLN.

Rent for 60-80 sqm apartment: About 2000-3000 (check what is included and what is not included in the rent agreement!)
Groceries for 2 adults and 1 child: About 1200-2000
Power + Gas + Water + Heat etc: About 400-800
Bus passes for 2 adults and 1 child: About 600-750 every 3 months so about 200-250 monthly
Mobile phone plan with data access: 50-100
Home Phone with internet: 75-100 (more if including TV channels)
Clothes: bring with you from India. Have an extra box shipped if you have to.
Meal outside for 3: McDees 45-60, decent local place 75-150. Not including alcohol. Finding veg/vegan cuisine can be challenging in some areas if this is of concern to you.

Fuel for a small car: assuming consumption 6L/100km diesel, assuming PLN 5 per L, PLN 300 per 1000 km. Parking in some areas can be expensive. Car rental is stupidly expensive. Buying a second hand car might be more financially sound. Insurance for owners without local license can be difficult or expensive to buy though. Stick to public transit whenever possible.

Law / Car insurance cost for old used car in Poland (OC) [17]

I was under the impression that it is THE CAR that is insured

OC in Poland is what they call "liability" or "third party" in other countries. It is the minimum requirement for a car to be driven legally, and covers only damages caused by the subject car to others if the driver of the subject car is at fault, hence the name liability or third party.

It does not cover damages to the car subject car (those can be covered by AC, comprehensive or extended coverage).

Usually they calculate the cost of OC based on: driver's age, number of years in possession of a driving license, number of years without claims, location, engine size etc. It is NOT based on the value of the subject car. You can buy a car for 5.000 zl or 100.000 zl and pay the nearly the same amount for OC.

When they calculate AC the value and specifications of the subject car are taken into consideration.

Actually, OC cost calculation involves engine size as well (usually), and AC involves both car and driver, because AC covers damages to your own car when YOU are at fault...

News / French chopper - a good choice for Poland? [8]

helicopter factories in Świdnik and Mielec will lose an opportunity to develop and create new Polish jobs? What's your take on this?

Welcome to a hybrid system between value based and politically motivated procurement in a world of increasingly open markets.

Remember, two tenders were awarded, the anti ballistic missile defense (ABM for short) awarded to Raytheon USA and the helicopters awarded to Airbus France.

I say politically motivated because while the chosen ABM is capable and battle proven, in terms of value it is a tough sell against competitors from... Let's just say our Eastern Neighbors, whom were not invited to bid. And the main competitor it had comes from the country which won the other tender so...

I say value based because the Airbus offer met the technical requirements at the lowest price, and comes from a country that belongs to many of the same blocks (EU, NATO, EEA, etc etc etc). So the local competitor (supposedly) failed to achieve the same balance.

By the way, I am stating neither agreement nor disagreement with the choices that were made. Just putting some food for thought and discussion on the table.

Law / Obtaining PESEL, ID Card and Passport in Poland [39]

is it possible to get his permanent passport and pesel number in uk without going Poland ?

Yes it is possible, and I know this because I went through the procedure for my own child who was also born abroad.

In addition to getting the temporary passport (I assume with 1 year validity?) you will need to go to the Polish embassy or consulate and fill + sign some forms, at least three times - once to apply for the Polish birth certificate, another time to apply for the PESEL number, and another time to apply for a regular passport. They are separate procedures, and the birth certificate must be issued and received before you can apply for the PESEL, which in turn must be issued before you can apply for a regular passport. For some documents BOTH parents must be present to sign at the embassy, so it is better if both of you go together each time.

However it takes a rather long time. From the day we filed the first application to the day we received a regular passport it took about 8 months.

finally, I did this 3 years ago and I cannot guarantee procedures have not changed since! Ask at the embassy.

If you are able to travel to Poland (either parent) the entire procedure can be done within 2 weeks. The UK birth certificate translated to Polish and attested plus a certified (by a notary) and attested (by Foreign Ministry + Polish Embassy) copy of the non-Polish parent's passport needs to be presented. Ask your spouse to call the registration office in their area and ask what are the current document requirements.

USA, Canada / 18 and moving back from USA to Poland?? [19]

Agreed with Terri and Jon. However don't be afraid to come here for a summer holiday if you can afford it, just don't get stuck in the tourist mind set.

Law / How do I verify a Polish company's existence? [240]

krs-online.com.pl

That gives an extract of KRS with some of the most essential information, including tax ID number (NIP) for example. This website tends to update records rather often but still some records can be out of date.

If a full version is needed, then use:

ems.ms.gov.pl/krs/wyszukiwaniepodmiotu?t:lb=t

To see the full KRS, select the option to print, which will automatically download the full KRS in pdf format. This way you will also know the person(s) authorized to sign on behalf of the company, registered commercial activities and paid up capital among other things.. Keep in mind, records can be out of date.

Law / Regarding Entering Poland - residency and travelling to other Schengen countries [19]

my 90 days visa is expired. Is it possible for me to travel to Poland without a visa?

If you travel outside Czech to other Schengen countries before your residence permit is issued then you are taking a risk. You might be breaking the law, and If you are asked for any reason to show your documents then you will have a hard time making authorities understand your case.

A reason can be suspicion of having committed a crime or admission to a hospital due to unnatural causes requiring police attention (for example injuries caused by a car accident or assault).

In Poland, the law defines who is allowed to verify the legality of your presence in the country, and for what reason they may conduct verification. But there remains some communication gaps. Last year I was asked for documents by city guard (straż miejska) when I visited them to pay to a minor traffic violation. City guard are not permitted by law to question the legality of your status (only police, border guard, customs and certain official workers dealing with foreigners are allowed). Trying to argue with them only leads to them getting aggressive/defensive and generally uncooperative.

The confirmation of application for a residence permit (as far as I know) allows you to stay only in Czech until a residence card is issued. Read this letter again or call the place where you applied if you have doubts. If you remain in doubt then sit still and wait for your residence card.

2. What is Cel Wydania - 05,06 ,07 means ?

This refers to the reason you stated when you applied for a visa. They sometimes write 05-06-07 together to cover a broad range of work related applications.

05: work (for a period not exceeding six months over the next 12 months), based on statement of intention to perform work, registered with the labor authority.

06: Driver (international road transport)

07: Work based on documents other than those in points 5 and 6.

Here is a website with a the full list of of these reasons in Polish. Use google translate, it won't be 100% accurate but you will understand.

arslege.pl/cel-wydania-wizy-schengen-lub-krajowej/k163/a14271

You will need to apply for a residence permit as soon as you arrive - which is now merged together with the work permit.

Also, most bigger cities in Poland have offices of the "straż graniczna"

All correct. If Straż Miejska believe that something is not right, they can and should ask the police the get involved, but Straż Miejska are not legally authorized to ask anyone to prove the legality of their status in Poland.

Law / Ways of getting Permanent residency in Poland [101]

as employee in a Polish company and my job wants me to work out side Poland for more than eight months do i have the right to ask for a permanent visa after five years ?

Yes you can still apply because you would be going outside Poland on a professional assignment from your Polish employer. You are thereby excluded from the rules regarding uninterrupted stay prior to application.

News / Presidential elections and debates 2015 Poland [472]

GOOD NEWS!

No that is horrible news. That is the worst news I heard since the reelection of George W Bush in 2004. The only thing that is worse is the fact that 4.4% of votes went for Korwin! (what the hay?!?)

Anyway Duda will be crushed in the second round because most people that voted for Kukiz will probably switch to Komorowski in the next round.

It was Polonia that upheld the continuity of legitimate Polish rule over years of Nazi nad Soviet enslavement

Not to disagree with the quoted statement (I stand neutral on that), and I sincerely mean no offense, but what century are you living in? I am legally old enough to be a grandfather, and my father who is more than double my age and has seen WW2 does not talk like that. Even my grandfather - who was captured by the Nazis and survived to tell his tale - never talked like that, and he passed away in the 1990s due to natural causes! ie. he was very old!!!

Unless you are older than 85-90 then you are mentally stuck in some history book. And while it is good and admirable to know history, it is not good to get stuck living in it. I know that change is hard to accept for some or most people, but if you fail to keep up with times then times will simply pass you by and leave you stumbling in their wake to say the least...

I live in Poland and I struggle with corruption that you mentioned somewhere on daily basis. Yet I fail to understand how can you possibly blame problems that occurred in every communist or ex-communist country on Komorowski or his party. If anything I am witnessing slow but constant improvement on this and basically every other aspect of life in Poland. If you expect any country to rise up and recover from several decades of communism overnight then you are delirious (for lack of a better word), especially when the benchmark being used is Western Europe, which is THE wealthiest and most socially and economically developed group of countries! This recovery needs decades, not years.

Law / Is Polish language certificate necessary to get citizenship of Poland? [6]

You need to do the state exam

I think that nowadays the test can be done at a number of private institutions also? I could be wrong about this though.

Maybe better to wait a while, practise the language (the exam is not an easy one) and it will be a simpler matter.

Agree 100%

But PO is a catch-all for opportunists of every ilk,

Again, I will stand neutral on this simply because I don't know enough about the personal history of everyone in every political party to even comment.

There is a good saying that about this subject. When you dig you get dirt. This holds true for everyone and politicians (of every ilk) are no exception. If someone with enough determination and enough resources wants to dig dirt on anyone then they will find dirt. It is as simple as that.

Having said that, I believe that justice should be served including for crimes committed during communism. If you know someone that committed crimes during communism and got away with it, then you should present your evidence to the concerned prosecutor, preferably instead of casting a wide net of accusations in the face of several million people democratically represented by this or that party.

Assume that I am an average Joe with no detailed knowledge concerning the background of each candidate - which is a very common type of average Joe here in Poland and worldwide for that matter. All I know is that there are elections and that candidates have presented agendas/pledges of some sort for the public to evaluate and cast their votes accordingly (in the simplest possible terms). From my perspective today, the only agenda I saw from Duda is to discredit Komorowski and trash everything achieved by his party. I can't see how Poland will move forward when the people in charge have such an agenda - or in fact no real agenda.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2971]

Abortion not being an option

Between this and what Gosc said that pretty much covers it.
She is probably just nervous - uncertain of what comes next. If you care about her then give her time to get over her uncertainties. Otherwise walk away and leave her in peace. She clearly has some complexes to deal with.

Someone I know had a very similar situation with an Arab woman. Feels like deja vu to read about it here.

Law / Working in EU countries and in UK with Poland's Residence Card (Karta Pobytu)? [51]

Residency permit: Come to Poland after you get married (and have your marriage registered in Poland) and apply. You will need to be registered as a resident at an address in Poland.

Polish ID card: In your case you will have to wait until you become a Polish citizen - which means you have to live in Poland after you get married for at least 4 years uninterrupted - 2 years to get permanent residence then 2 more years to be eligible to apply for recognition as a citizen.

Working in the UK: If you wife works in the UK, then after you get married you can apply for EEA family permit. You need neither residency permit nor ID from Poland to do that.
