News / Polish hero pilot lands 767 without wheels. (Warsaw) [191]

Considering the "other" accident has already been mentioned here this is a pretty morbid analogy, wouldn't you say? :(

Not really. My point was that all possible causes must be taken into account and until it is eliminated, that includes pilot error. There most certainly have in the past been times when pilots were first called heroes and later found to be very much at fault (the Kegworth crash springs to mind).

Didn't the guy spend an hour going around the airport before landing? that's what I heard, maybe he knew and was running out of fuel and made the call?

Perhaps Sky can comment as to whether or not burning off excess fuel is SOP.

Then I asked if someone could find any case of jumbo jet landing without the landing gear .

Can you find an example of a Jumbo jet landing without any landing gear? No, you can not. But don't let truth get in the way of your posts.

As for examples of belly landings, here's one from the very same month when a Turkish 737 suffered the collapse of half its undercarriage and the pilot slid it to a stop with no injuries:

arabianaerospace.aero/sky-airlines-has-landing-gear-collapse-at-antalya.html?utm_source=googleNews&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=news_feed

So , now you may apologise me for your mistake .

When are you planning to apologise for your claim that you asked for cases of Jumbo jets landing without landing gear?

A 767 is not a Jumbo jet: a 747 is a Jumbo jet.

As for your claim that no pilot has ever been so skilled in the past:

PIA Jumbo belly landing

PIA Jumbo belly landing

NWA Jumbo without nose gear

Do let me know if you want photos of belly landings by 777, 737, C-17, etc.

Life / Is it possible to bring cellphone, cigarette by post package from South Korea to Poland? [8]

Although the phone was used, I must pay for tax??
That's not new one, just used phone.
And I wanna receive only 1 phone that is used for 5 month in Korea.
So I don't understand the policy in Poland.

Yes you must pay tax, about 30% of the value (and you must be able to prove the value).

You can have cigarettes posted in but you'll have to pay tax on them too (more than 30%).

Don`t distort my posts , I asked about similar cases in my post .

You said "But for a jumbo jet like 767 landing without landing gear I think it was the first time in history ."

From what you posted there is no similar case of landing without the landing gear .

Please either show me the undercarriage in this picture (which I posted) or admit that your statement above is a lie:

historyofpia.com/apayw2b_acdp1.jpg

Both 747 and 767 are wide body aircrafts with similar capacity 747 - 366 seats

366 is the minimum: there are 747s out there that are designed to seat 550 and one once took off with 1,087 official passengers and landed with 1,089 officially on board (the real number was 1,122). But don't let facts get in the way of your posts.

More proof you know nothing about aviation.

Sad really, given that she's the daughter of a Polish airforce commander and discusses aviation issues with him.

JonnyM: previous crashes at Warsaw

What the hell are you talking about ? What crashes are you talking about ? There were just 3 .

Three crashes at Warsaw means that there were previous crashes at Warsaw.

News / UPC Poland delivers 150Mbps in Lublin [10]

It makes me laugh when here in little ole Lubelska we are referred to as Poland 'B' and having travelled to many areas of Poland in my 14 years of living here I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. :0)

And you have the best beer in Poland down there too!

you are the troll on this forum .

Perhaps you could avoid insulting people?

PWEI - I repeat again my question which you may answer if you wish , was there any similar landing like this one in the history of aviation ?

Just look at the photos I posted of belly landings. And here are more of them:

This will be even clearer when the Boeing expert will rule it pilot error as in all of their investigations, after all there’s company image at stake,

I very much doubt that that would ever happen. Perhaps you can give us an example of such a thing ever happening?

Pilot thinking the gear is down as the horn never sounded again, official ruling Pilot Error. No brainier for the Boeing expert.

No, it was a no brainer because the Master Warning circuit breaker was pulled out by cockpit crew during the flight and when flaps were lowered with retracted landing gear, aircraft's Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) which was independent of the Warning CB, started to howl but that warning was ignored by the crew.

UK, Ireland / What do you like about living in Britain? [134]

Yes, but it is far more hassle to source the ingredients (in correct amounts) and prepare it, especially in Poland. Sometimes all one wants to do is pierce the film and set the microwave.

Thats an example of internet discussion , completely unsubstantial replies not connected with the problem

As opposed to claiming that a 767 is a Jumbo jet and that nobody has ever landed a Jumbo without using the undercarriage. Now who was it that did that?

Let me post this photo for the third time:

The reason the undercarriage is invisible in that photo is because the plane was landed with the undercarriage retracted.

BTW: the professional pilot in this thread has already stated that he'd prefer to do a landing with no undercarriage than with half of it.

as for age of fleet- I am comparing to Air Canada -which is what I fly to get back from Poland. The have an all new fleet and a very good reputation.

pip, please try to learn just a tiny bit before posting here.
Average age of the Air Canada fleet is 11.4 years
Average age of the LOT fleet is 8.7 years

The planes flown within Europe seem to be ok

I had the misfortune of flying on a EuroLOT plane yesterday. FYI: Average age of the EuroLOT fleet is 17.4 years

I am willing to bet mine is more accurate, no?

And your less than independent source still shows that Air Canada has an older fleet than LOT does.

another thing- these are talking about averages- not the actual age of the specific planes. I know that the transcontinental air canada planes are a hell of a lot younger, in fact brand new, compared to the transcontinental lot planes.

Really? For Air Canada:
Airbus A319 (37): 13.7 years Of 122 airlines operating this type of aircraft Air Canada ranks 119.
Airbus A320 (36): 18.4 years Of 214 airlines operating this type of aircraft Air Canada ranks 189.
Airbus A321 (10): 9.6 years Of 65 airlines operating this type of aircraft Air Canada ranks 38.
Airbus A330 (8): 11.2 years Of 89 airlines operating this type of aircraft Air Canada ranks 73.
Boeing 767 (32): 17.6 years Of 115 airlines operating this type of aircraft Air Canada ranks 57.
Boeing 777 (18): 3.8 years Of 56 airlines operating this type of aircraft Air Canada ranks 18.

And for LOT: Boeing 767: 17.9 years Of 115 airlines operating this type of aircraft LOT Polish Airlines ranks 60.

how confident are you going to be that the engine and all landing gear are 100% safe?

If a plane flies into or out of the EU or the USA regularly, I'm 100% confident that the bits which matter are just fine.

Canada might have a better overall service.

Very possible but I haven't flown Air Canada yet (looks like I'll be coming back from New Orleans next year with them). I find that LOT's service can be superb but can also be pretty dire.

Law / The Age Old Question: Am I a Polish Citizen? (now American) [11]

I am considering heading to Warsaw in a few months and coughing up near 1000 euro to a lawyer

That would not help at all and would be simply a waste of money.

Personally my concern would be that your great-grandfather left Poland without proof that his military service obligations were completed. If he did not complete such (and you'll need proof that he did, i.e. discharge papers), his citizenship would have been revoked and so would that of his daughter. There was a discussion about a case rather similar to yours here a while back Polish Citizenship request rejected--military service of father

Looks like you need to find his military records before you apply.

But since Warsaw has become a hub for those from Russia traveling to North America- the quality of the flight has changed.

When did that happen? LOT only flies to two cities in Russia itself (and has done so for many many years).

Real Estate / Banks in Poland selling fewer mortgages in 2011, down 49% [285]

the renting argument.

Yes Mark, renting is such a good idea: because after 20 to 30 years you have nothing; while if you buy, after 10 to 30 years you have a valuable asset. I wish I had carried on renting instead of buying my own flat.
