You nailed that one. Sadly some people try to claim that he was Polish.

It was in this environment where Copernicus / Kopernik was able to publish his scientific observations unmolested, even while Galileo was put on trial for heresy in Italy.

Well, that and the fact that he held off publication until he was very nearly dead: apparently somebody did expect the Spanish inquisition.

In 1512 Mikołaj Kopernik gave the oath of fidelity to Polish King Sigismund I the Old .

Superb. Now can you show us that he signed his name "Mikołaj Kopernik" on that document? Or even anywhere? I've never seen a single example of him signing himself Mikołaj. But do feel free to give the man a name which he didn't use himself.

No German would fight against Germans

Tell that to the thousands of Germans who were involved in the anti-Nazi resistance and to the hundreds of thousands of East Germans who joined that country's armed forces and stood ready to fight their fellow Germans.

His works, like many other works written in medieval Poland, were written in Latin, which was at that time the internationall language .

And every other document he wrote? What's the reason that not even a single one of them is in Polish? Not even the letters to the King of Poland? Could it be that he didn't actually speak Polish?

We only have a few letters by Copernicus / Kopernik, most of what he wrote that survived was in Latin (Does this mean he was Roman?), and a few letters in German which was more commonly used in official matters of trade and warfare in the towns. No letters survived in Polish as you well know but that doesn't prove anything as you also well know.

Indeed it does prove that. However, I'd argue with anybody who tried to claim Copernicus for any ethnic group!

It is still in the great majority, Catholic.

Having the majority of citizens as Catholic is not the same as being a Catholic country. If Poland were a Catholic country, contraception would be illegal. You seen any shortage of condoms in Poland?

Firstly, you can only be forced to pay three years back. Why are you apparently being told to pay for four years?
Secondly, if she wants part payment waived, she doesn't need to ask the court for that: she can waive it herself.
Thirdly, have you had a paternity test done?

You have to go to the Jagiellonian University library to ask for Krakow`s XV century registrar to see how his last name was written , and it was written Kopernik .

I asked where he called himself "MIKO£AJ". Do you mean you have no such source?

And the truth is, most of the people in that region of what is now northern Poland, including Kopernik, were at least partly of mixed heritage.

You hit the nail on the head there. Sadly some Poles and 'Poles' disagree with you.

Not all the Germans were of their ilk, nor were all Poles saints. History is never so clean.

I'm not claiming he considered himself to be German, so I don't need to provide such.

In fact I'd very much argue against the notion that he considered himself to be German. Just as I'd very much argue against the notion that he considered himself to be Polish.

Not demons: genocidal rapists. And not BS: facts confirmed by numerous courts of law.

would love to know if anyone has ever tried deep fried mars bars? personally cant think of anything more revolting,but they are popular in scotland, which has very high rate of heart disease....lol

Personally I prefer the deep-fried Snickers but I've only tried them in Warsaw.

Among the top ten famous British is Isaak Newton who is not British , he is Jewish . But no one claims in a wiki he is Jewish or says he is 40 % British 60 % Jewish because of his mother Hannah , a Jewess.

He was British and Jewish.

Mikołaj Kopernik was of course Polish .

Pity that we aren't talking about a man who ever used that name for himself.

I naively thought the somewhat multicultural family history of Kopernik would be inspirational and really (in my opinion) puts Poland in a rather positive light.

It would do, were there not a problem with certain Poles claiming that Copernicus was 100% Polish and so demonstrating the problems that some in this country (and more plastic Poles in the US) have with truth in history and racism.

Update from the Prague airport Marriott: both runways at Warsaw airport will remain closed until 4am tomorrow morning. LOT have responded to this by not diverting today's flights to Lodz/Katowice/Poznan/Krakow/etc but simply canceling all flights which were scheduled to use Warsaw. Brilliant, eh?

BTW it has been just said that the maintenance was performed by the american staff in Newark . So , blaming Polish stuff is a wrong path from now on.

That is somewhat unlikely. LOT prefers to take care of routine maintenance in-house, which is entirely understandable given their financial state.

Considering the number of excellent writers Poland produced, the availability of translations is pathetic.

Krajewski's stuff is being translated and released slowly but the translator manages to make three mistakes in just the info page and the title page!

infect it was the idiot pilot that forgot to lower the landing gear.

Forgetting to lower the undercarriage before landing would be as stupid as forgetting to pull up when the terrain warning system is shouting at you to pull up when you can not see the runway, i.e. no chance of it happening.
