Life / Looking to immigrate to Europe. How is life in Poland? [116]

I found it fine in northern Poland (which was admittedly a long time ago) but the times I've had the misfortune to use it here, it was nothing short of a disaster. After the last time I upped our medical insurance to the max.

No-one is too poor in Poland to pay taxes - there's VAT on virtually everything that you can buy. That's enough to enfranchise them.

I wonder how much the average Pole does pay in taxes. Any idea?

Des Essientes
Polonians that are citizens of Poland accept the responsibilities that go with citizenship.

Except doing anything to help Poland, of course.

Des Essientes
If Poland wished to draft them they would go to war etc.

No they don't. The vast majority of them have pledged allegiance to foreign powers and many have sworn to attack Poland when so ordered.

Des Essientes
They are taxed by the governments of the countries in which they live.

That is their choice and their problem.

Des Essientes
Surely you don't suggest that they should have to pay the Polish government too when they don't avail themselves of any of the Polish governments social serices, nor do they contribute to the wear and tear of the Polish infrastructure.

They can certainly afford to pay. And people who live in Poland but use none of the government's social service or the education system or the health care system have to pay taxes here.

On another note, congratulations for making a post without insulting anybody and purely attempting to comment on the issues. Keep up the good work.

People that are too poor to pay taxes should not be stripped of their rights as citizens.

Polonia are not too poor to pay taxes in Poland. Polonia earn more than the average US wage: they are simply to selfish to contribute to Poland.

This sick shopkeeper's reasoning

Kindly refrain from using that insult again.

Des Essientes
the stereotype of Scots as myopic ignorant pennypinchers.

And if you could possibly refrain from racist comments, that would also be good.

And for the third time of asking, please comment on the issue, not the persons. Kindly explain why Polonia, as persons who refuse to accept any of the responsibilities which go with being Polish, seem to feel, in their tens of thousands, that they have a right to enjoy the rights which go with being Polish.

dirty little shopkeeper's/prostitute's

Could you please be so kind as to use less inflammatory language. You have already referred in this thread to the British as “ a nation of shopkeepers”, so it is clear who you wish to insult with the phrase dirty little shopkeepers.

And for the second time of asking, please comment on the issue, not the persons. Kindly explain why Polonia, as persons who refuse to accept any of the responsibilities which go with being Polish, seem to feel, in their tens of thousands, that they have a right to enjoy the rights which go with being Polish.

I always vote Green in the local elections (in large part because I personally know and trust the guy). In the other elections I vote PO but only because they are the least worst option. Did I read somewhere that the EU is planning to ensure that only people who should have a voice in European elections will have one?

Polish-Americans have very little influence on the outcome of Polish elections.

And yet again you completely ignore the question of why Polonia should have any influence on elections in a country which they have rejected.

You have nothing to teach the Poles in this respect.

Could you perhaps make the slightest effort to comment on the topic and not comment on the persons? For example: kindly explain why Polonia, as persons who refuse to accept any of the responsibilities which go with being Polish, seem to feel, in their tens of thousands, that they have a right to enjoy the rights which go with being Polish.

Interesting to see a member of Polonia actually visiting Poland! Makes a very refreshing change.

While I agree with you that Warsaw is a cracking city to live in (which is why I live here), are you really saying that the health service here is good?!

significant financial and psychological support to opposition

Not quite the same as coming back to the motherland and laying it on the line, is it?

A thousand American citizens coming to Poland and getting themselves arrested en mass would have had very significant news value. Even a hundred of them doing it would have certainly made the papers and forced the US govt to take action. But I'm unaware of any actual on the ground efforts being made.

The fact that I was able to spend years working with and around various voluntary organisations and never meet a single member of Polonia speaks volumes for how much they actually care about the country which they think they have a right to be involved in the governance of.

Cool story bro. I've met more Polish-Americans who support Poland.

Support as in buying their grandmother a "World's greatest Busia" t-shirt or as in actually doing something useful?

I have been in Poland for more than a decade and a half and I cannot recall meeting a single member of Polonia who was out here doing voluntary work.

Strangely enough, I've actually met more non-Polonia Americans that have done stuff for Poland than the Polonia themselves. Shameful.

Now that I think about it, none of the Peace Corps people I met out here were Polonia. And I have never met any VSO people who were Polonia either.

jwojcie
They've done a lot in times of communist regime.

You mean 'they ran away and stayed out'? That's not really being unselfish, is it? Although I suppose that the selfishness that they displayed when they abandoned Poland explains why they think that they should have all of the rights that come with Polish citizenship but none of the responsibilities.

Polonia doesn't pay for anything which Poland needs. The only positive thing that they do for Poland is staying out of Poland.

Hahahahaha, completely off-topic there PWEI. Polonia is laughing at you. You've been pwned trick!

Rough translation: you acknowledge that you are utterly unable to explain why people should be allowed to be completely selfish and you wish you hadn't just been caught lying.

Does Polonia know that a proven liar is claiming to represent it? You're clearly happy to lie here: what's to say that you aren't also lying about being Polish in the slightest? Poles certainly aren't selfish egomaniacs but you clearly are.

PWEI, I have engaged in no personal abuse

Of course you haven't: you post was edited by a moderator because it was too nice and terms such as "jackasses", "scumbag" and "ponces" are not at all abusive. But at least it is nice to see you varying your debating technique from 'throwing around personal abuse' to 'simply lying about what one said'.

but these expariates know that it would be a lie inside because their hearts which are too withered and shrunken by petty resentments to ever be truly Polish.

Yawn. Yet more personal abuse from somebody who knows so little about being Polish that he doesn't even know what a Polish grandmother is called. No attempt from him to explain why people should continue to enjoy their privileges when they have refused to meet their responsibilities. Instead just yet more personal abuse. Which shows us that there simply is no argumentation which can justify people being utterly selfish.

But if no, then what hundereds and if not thousands of fioreigners like in my case who are still in the 'residency for set period of time' will do, if they don t have address and/or if they can t get???

They just get somebody to sign saying that they live at that person's flat.

If I was you, I'd just keep my official address at the old flat until it is actually sold.

Because she is a citizen of Poland. Poland is country not a business run by stockholders.

With rights come responsibilities. She does not accept those responsibilities and so should not exercise those rights. Such a shame that you are too selfish and egotistical to understand the most fundamental principles of social co-existence.

Jahred
She is still Polish. That fact obviously irritates you but it's true. Moving to another country doesn't make you a non-Pole.

Doesn't irritate me at all. If people want to be selfish twats who enjoy only the good bits and leave all the less good bits to be done by other people, that's up to them. There are way too many selfish people in the world to get irritated by all of them.

Jahred
in the end, it all comes down to law. She is a citizen and can vote. Period.

The thing about bad laws is that they get changed. The actions of Polonia are clearly showing Poland that the law permitting people who have no real connection with Poland to vote is a law which needs to be changed.

Real Estate / Zameldowanie and the landlord presence vs rental contract only [6]

is the rental contract enough as document to submit to the city hall in order to get zameldowanie? or does the owner have to be in person to sign?

Owner in person with notarial deed confirming ownership in hand or no maldunek. I went to get one for myself and although they agreed that I did own the flat (they checked the records of who pays the property tax and who give previous malduneks), I couldn't get a maldunek because I didn't have the notarial deed confirming ownership of my flat.

If by help you mean pay taxes, well why would she if she's not using Polish healthcare or other public services?

If she isn't contributing to the money which is to be spent, why should she have any say in how it is spent? Why should she have the right to tell other people how their money is to be spent?

As the decisions made by the Polish government do not directly affect her, why should she have the right to tell other people how they must live their lives?

The simple fact that in society people have both rights and responsibilities: people who refuse to accept their responsibilities should not be allowed to excise the rights given to those who accept their responsibilities.

British ponces.

Is it completely impossible for you to post without insulting people? It very much seems that as you treat the rules here with complete contempt that you should be reminded of what happens to the people who think that they are above the rules (and to those who get hammered before posting, which is my standard error).

Teaching at a secondary school in Poland would give her a laughable salary compared to what she's earning now at a top American engineering firm. Also, teaching isn't something she wants to do anyway.

So she puts her own enrichment far above the needs of Poland. If she won't help Poland, why should she have any say in how Poland is run?

My Polish exgirlfriend sends money to her family back in Poland. What else can she do?

Come back here and teach physics at secondary school for a few years. The school where my girlfriend works needs a couple of physics teachers and from what she says that school is far from the only one in need.

And if there is plenty of work, why are so many Poles moving to Germany, Netherlands, and the UK for jobs?

Wages are (or at least seem) better there.

Jahred
why would Polish prisoners not have a right to vote? They are still citizens.

They are citizens who have not satisfied the responsibilities which go with citizenship; therefore they should be allowed to enjoy the rights which go with citizenship (and they are not, for example they are deprived of their rights to freedom of movement and association).

If they really wanted to improve Poland, they could do far far more than just vote for any political party.

Tell that to some of the Polish immigrants I know who couldn't even find a job in Poland to earn enough money to put food on the table.

There is plenty of work in Poland for those who want to do it!

Jahred
In reality, you're just saying that because most Polish-Americans didn't vote for your preferred party. Had it been the other way, you would be staying quiet.

Nope, the vast majority of Polish prisoners voted for the parties I prefer but I have still spoken out against them being allowed to vote.
