Life / Remedy for a common cold the Polish way - *extract of penis* ? [40]

discussing the common cold and remedies for it.

As funny as ur story sounds, unfortunately there are much more tragic yet funny Popular remedies, especially in rural area's incl. dog fat......you dnt see many stray dogs in rural Poland. Unfortunate practice, Its a shame such backward practices still exist........I also heard on many occasions the health benefits of urine, e.g drinking and rubbing on ailments.

Travel / The World's Sexiest Cities: San Francisco, Paris, Warsaw... [28]

The Polish capital isn't exactly romantic, but it does boast something else in ridiculous proportions: extremely attractive people.

Let's not forget Poland was widely renowned as the Paris of the East, however WW2 changed all that

News / Praising Poland can be dangerous [45]

I think its just Polish nature to have a whinge about the govt. regardless of how good it is, ull always find someone who dsnt like this or that. As for the other things Poles still do have a little bit of a chip on their shoulder's (rightly so) regarding modern history and thus are suspicious and pedantic of most historical/geographical discussions.

History / Are Poles happy with the current Polish borders? [134]

because you kicked all the Germans out. Homogenous is not good since it causes inbred characteristics such as stupidity among other things, it is better to have a variety of genes. Look at the USA.

But of course, you can eat only bigos until the end of your life and watch a mediocre Polish football;)

Its Homogenous because the Germans killed off all the jews and stalin shifted the boarders. Also I guess Biology/genetics isn't ur strong point judging by ur comments.....Or maybe stupidity is a dominant genetic trait in ur family.......anyway why dnt u do somthing better w/ ur mediocre life instead.

Life / Poznan or Wroclaw - which city is more foreigner-friendly? [18]

Definitely Poznan. Wroclaw, sadly, has crappy infrastructure, bad architecture and I wouldn't recommend it. All that apply to everyone, not only foreigners, but I cannot say about the attitude.

Would Poles consider Lwow or Wilno to be more attractive cities then Poznan or Wroclaw?

Love / What do Asian boys think about Polish girls? :) (and vice versa) [150]

but surely the polish culture/society instills strong values on its men & women.

Are you dating her at the moment or trying to ask her out?.....anyway remember Polish men are considered very gallant and chivalrous, so add that to ur flirtations (but dnt over do it)

Law / Starting a catering business - South African Style. Dealing with the restrictions... [13]

anyone had any tips or advice

maybe opening a business with South African goods instead, like biltong for example....Poles like their meats like kielbasa and kabanoska ect. if they tasted biltong they would be hooked......anyway best of luck w/ that. I cnt think of a better culture or people which I would want to influence Poland in any way (although im a little bias because I lived there once;)

but surely the polish culture/society instills strong values on its men & women.

Poland is the most homogeneous nation in europe....as a result of this, naturally, the culture and traditions place more emphasis on staying w/ ones own.......going against the grain in most cases is seen as a bit taboo.......but anyway thats my interpretation.

Travel / Insights about winter in Poland. Polish winter during holidays as charming as spring? [21]

Thanks a lot guys this is great....

Depending which city you are coming to!

Im going to be staying mainly in Podhale near Zakopane. Although I will be hoping to visit Krakow

Yes, especially if you ski or snowboard, it's the best fun you can have with your clothes on!

ahaha thats good to hear cause I was thinking of going skiing.

Yes, same thing, but with snow, mud and slippery roads without proper safety planning. Also, same drivers;). Watch out.

hmm yea i thought that might be the case..... Add to that the sensation of driving on the wrong side of the road ahhh........Is taking public transport considered safer, like a bus or something?

Travel / Insights about winter in Poland. Polish winter during holidays as charming as spring? [21]

Hey there, I'm going to be traveling to Poland (yahoo!) however its going to be during a Polish winter (a harsh one as well by the sounds of it) Anyway I just wanted to find out if a Polish winter can be just as charming as a Polish spring? Do ppl manage to have a good social life despite the cold and early darkness?.......Also im terrified at the thought of being on Polish roads particularly during winter, for obvious reasons, are ppl more cautious then or is it same old dangerous Polish driving?

Cheers.

I see that a lot of people on here are interested in this topic

This is great, I hope to become a vet one day and move to Poland and get involved in conservation so this thread is jst the thing for me........I also read somewhere that Poland has bears, however very little of them and they are threatened with extinction which is very sad. Also does Poland have the largest or oldest wildlife reserve in europe?

Love / Being Taken For A Idiot by my Polish girlfriend? [37]

Dnt play along w/ her, if she starts ignoring you, u do the same, more deliberately. She'll probably realize she's not getting the reaction she wants and will go back to being nice to get your attention.

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

Sooo.. I was told to start a thread.

Is it only me that finds the American "Polonia" attitude towards Poland irritating and downright insulting towards real Polish people?

What do you expect they're are American.......I would be surprised if half of them could find Poland on the map.

News / WHY IS POLAND STILL GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER? [197]

Looking at Poland's history, Poland has, as we know, all too often been given a bad deal.

You have to realize that Polish history from a western perspective is simply inconvenient. They dnt want to be reminded that they betrayed Poland on numerous occasions during WW2 and prolonged the war by 5 years. Thus Polish success is hardly mentioned if at all. I remember in my history class (i live in Australia) I constantly had to interrupt the teacher stand up for the truth. all they taught us is how great the French resistance was, I had had to remind them that Poland in fact had the greatest and largest resistance in WW2 and the only occupied country without any collaboratory groups of ppl. Poland to them was jst some backward unlucky country who couldn't stand up for herself. You wnt here about the betrayals, you wnt hear about our brave and most successful pilots in the battle of Britain, you wnt hear that the Polish took the mount in mounte casino and you certainly wnt here that we werent even invited to the victory parade!!

News / Do Poles take Kaczynski seriously!? [199]

Poland needs a young energetic politician to lead it, not old commies who think of the past too much and are corrupted, maybe Wojciech Olejniczak? just a suggestion[/quote]

Yeah I agree, although I haven't heard of Olejniczak to be honest, he sounds promising though. Im sure he would make a better opposition then Kaczynski thats for sure.

Thanks for that analysis..... As long as he doesn't get elected we can all breath a sigh of relief, I agree it really is a pity their isn't a respectable opposition. Thankfully from my perspective we have a good government.

Bolle
Wawel is a large place, you do after all need a place to take a seat and rest while touring. I think his grave will be ideal for that, because it has no other use in Wawel.

News / Do Poles take Kaczynski seriously!? [199]

It's only "Kaczyński this", "Kaczyński that" blah blah blah yadda yadda

well its good to hear the media hold him to account for what he says. However I have to question ur sympathy for him. The man brings it on himself. After the death of his brother there was plenty of sympathy for him, and respect. Its a fair effort on his behalf to change all that

What we don't take seriously is motivated first posts.

This is not politicaly motivated. I dnt live in Poland and only recently took up an interest in Polish politics, and this is an objective unbiased view. I am seriously concerned, I mean surly you people can see the the guy is not mentally stable!

If Polish people consider Kaczynski's rants as credible politics, then i am very disappointed embarrassed.

News / Do Poles take Kaczynski seriously!? [199]

I am writing this as a concerned Pole living abroad who believes Polish democracy is under threat from the madman Kaczynski. since the Smolensk tragedy, Kaczynski has become increasingly antagonistic to the ruling PO govnt. and refuses to accept the democratic will of the people by not recognizing Komorowski as President. The hypocrite has since held hate filled torch rallies

(shades of Germany 1932) in Warsaw calling an end to the current govnt. He unashamedly accuses the current govnt of being morally responsible for the smolensk tragedy and more recently the killing of a PiS politician. Someone please tell me he is just a running joke in Poland and that he has no credibility what so ever.
