Law / Foreigners Getting Married in Poland - a Guide to Formal Preparation [54]

I got married in 2009 in the municipal building. On that day the office worker took my original birth certificate and I took home a color scan of it. Now I am in need of the original birth certificate but my wife says that I can not get it back which I think is just her not wanting to deal with it (I don't speak Polish so I would need her help in retrieving it).

So when one gets married in Poland, is this proper legal procedure to take one's original birth certificate and store it at the municipal building?

Law / Why do local municipalities in Poland take your birth certificate when you get married? [3]

Hi,

I married my Polish born wife in Poland back in 2009. Before our court ceremony the municipality secretaries/office workers took my wife's and my birth certificates, photocopied them, gave us the copies and filed the originals. At the time I think I was in a daze, I just wanted to get it over with. Did not think much about it.

But now I am preparing to travel to Hungary to prove my Hungarian citizenship and I would like to have all my original documents with me. Aside from that I have been thinking it is strange that the municipality took my birth certificate. As far as I know this is never done in the states.

Is it possible to get my original birth certificate back from the municipality (town hall)?

And is this common practice in Poland?

Travel / Questions: Bus from Puławy to Budapest [4]

Hello,

I'm trying to find a bus that will go from Puławy to Budapest. I can not speak Polish though.

What website should I go to find out about bus routes from Puławy to Budapest?
Where would I buy my ticket?
Will the bus driver speak English?

Thank you : )

Love / Married in Poland, now wanting divorce, does she have rights to half my earnings? [67]

@seanus Right, in this case it's a good thing to be poor.

@warszawski Thank you so much for this link. I will definitely contact them. I need all the help I can as she told me she will have a lawyer (thanks to her new boyfriend being connected). Still I don't think she has a clue what she is getting herself into if she wants to fight me on this. I don't own a dam thing. Anyways, thanks a bunch.

@wildrover How long have you known her? Online/phone relationship or have you met her in person? If so how much time have you physically spent with her already?

Love / Married in Poland, now wanting divorce, does she have rights to half my earnings? [67]

@seanus Well, like I said, I own really nothing of value except for my laptop. It's not like she could reach into my parents bank account. (they support both she and me now)

@wildrover Well, she already has a new boyfriend who I found out she slept with already. Crazy! And can you believe she asked me to get her US citizenship? Yeah like I really want to spend another 2 or more years with her. She's nuts if she thinks she is going to get that out of me.

@warszawski Interesting you mention physical abuse. During our 4 year relationship and 2 year marriage she was the one who physically abused me. I put up with it all this time. Even though this is true, how would I ever be able to prove that abuse?

Love / Married in Poland, now wanting divorce, does she have rights to half my earnings? [67]

@seanus Hahaha. Everything? I own a nice hiking back pack, a tent, a laptop, hand me down clothes, shoes, a usb microphone, old headphones ... eh that is it. I don't have a job. The only way I was getting by and supporting us was because I was receiving financial support from my parents back in the US, $600 a month. So what can she really get from me? I don't understand how this is going to play out.

@warszawski, Well, yeah she does have power over me in this way. She could have me kicked out of Poland.

Love / Married in Poland, now wanting divorce, does she have rights to half my earnings? [67]

Hello,

My wife and I got married in Poland in 2009 and now we are planning on splitting up. We both live in Poland but in separate apartments. The other day she threatened that she was going to go for half of my earnings & belongings in the divorce settlement. Funny thing is that I currently am unemployed. I guess she is figuring that soon I won't be unemployed, you know, she's planning her future out. So, does she have rights to half of what I own and perhaps will earn?

Thanks,

Travel / Where can I find a map of the Warsaw / Central station and other points of interests [7]

Hi,

I am planning on taking a PKP train to the Warsaw Centralna station and I am trying to find a map of it so I know where to go to buy a bus ticket for 175 line since I am going to the airport. I have tried Googling around and can not find it.

I know there are multiple levels there and would like to see a map that covers each level. The last thing I want is to get lost in that place.

Thanks :)

Love / THE POLISH DISEASE, wanna marry a Polish girl ? read on... [197]

No matter who one marries, it all comes down to both parties. Relationships never stay perfect for ever. Challenges will eventually come up that test the strength. That is inevitable. When this happens usually one must become selfless to fix the problem.

Relationships will be miserable, or fail, if one or both of the partners is usually self centered. So if one's priority lyes outside the marriage be it: career, drugs, friends, family, etc. - it can create a problem in the marriage.

Marriage is not for everyone at every point in their life. Sometimes one must develop themselves to a certain point financially, mentally, physically, spiritually, etc. before considering even having a romantic relationship with another human being.

And sometimes a person is never satisfied enough with the progress they have made in those areas to take on the responsibility of a relationship. They are perfectionists and will never be satisfied.

The problem comes when one is unwise and believes they can handle a relationship. Usually loneliness and/or the desire for sex will push an unready person into a relationship or marriage. One can only pray for such an individual.
