When I was in Poland a few weeks ago, I spent about 50 PLN on food and drink, and that was for five days. So, about £2.00 GBP a day. Bought everything at Carrefour.

If I had managed to stay at the apartment I had planned to (long story) and didn't have to stay in a hotel at short notice, I would have spent even less, as I would have done some cooking.

Not much point involving the police if part of the money was secretly "cash in hand"; it's a bit like calling the cops because someone broke into your house and stole that huge bag of Ecstasy pills you bought last week :)

This is nothing new in Poland, though. Only a few weeks ago, I overheard a couple of girls who had boarded a tram outside the Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny in Kraków.

One mentioned to the other that she had just packed in her job.

The other girl was shocked: "How are you going to pay your way through university now, then?".

The first girl replied: "I was supposed to get paid about 350 PLN this week, but they only paid me 175 PLN. When I went to the boss to discuss my contracted hours, he replied 'What contract?' So I told him to stick his job".

If "supersize" means they gave you a normal-sized drink, a normal bag of fries, but a huge burger - then yes.

I've seen it, and it's gross.

But it's the same as drinking a bottle of vodka a day for years, then wondering why you have recently started vomiting blood.

Everything in moderation is the key. I'm not overweight, I have a normal blood pressure, and no health problems whatsoever, yet I eat McD's from time to time. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, it was a restaurant which portrays itself as more upmarket, with more healthier options, which poisoned me.

Besides, here in the UK, because we have a nanny state, we're not even allowed to "supersize". Not that I would want to anyway - they only give you more fries and more drink, when what I really want is a supersized burger, lol :)

We were far busier when we worked 60+ hours a week in industry (it wasn't that long ago, and I was one of them), yet we ate fewer takeaways back then, so it's just an excuse in my opinion.

I still work very long shifts (including nights) but I can easily cook three different dishes (equalling up to 18 portions) in a few hours on a day off. This saves time later, as it takes about 5-7 minutes to reheat in a microwave. That's truly fast food :)

It's easy to do if you know how, but "too busy" generally means "no time for Facebook/TV/the pub" etc. these days. A lot of people are just lazier than they used to be.

I'd have said more northern European. I don't think he looks at all Polish or Slavic, but he wouldn't stand out in Poland. An Italian would stand out more.

Unlike some people on here, I'm never going to encourage Poland to take in millions of Africans, just because the EUSSR says so.

But look at the numbers - let's say, for example, there are 50000 of the kind of immigrants you object to in Poland. Then compare that to the number of lazy drunken unemployables in Poland. You will find that the figure is far higher.

Now, I imagine that you would have replied "it's their country, they can do what they want". But that doesn't change the fact that the indigenous useless are a far bigger problem than immigrants, useful or otherwise.

omg I couldn't stop laughing during this film. Like many Polish films, it starts a bit dull/confused... then something happens which turns the film around immediately. In this case, it's the scene where they're weighing the returning Poles at the border. One has lost weight, and is told off - because if everyone went abroad and lost weight, there wouldn't be enough Poles left, and the country needs Poles haha. You have to watch it to really get it :)

Another good one is "Trzy minuty. 21:37". Nothing funny about this one, but it needs to be watched a second time to really get it. Not easy to watch at times (you won't want to be admitted to a Polish hospital after watching this, lol), and probably the best Polish film since "Plac Zbawiciela", in my humble but clearly non-expert opinion ;)

I'm a great cook, and I never buy supermarket ready meals (ugh) - I like the taste of my own cooking more than anything. But even I go to McD's occasionally. It's a nice change. and, unlike a certain local kebab shop, or a certain very well-known pizza chain, they have never, ever given me a dodgy stomach. Shame they had to demolish a historic local cinema to make way for it though.

I'd rather go to Nando's, which is more like "real" food, but they always look at me funny when I ask for four fried chickens and a Coke, especially if I take the pi** and order in a really whiny Salfordian accent lmao.

However, I would never use one In Poland unless I lived there, as I always eat local food when abroad.

It's so obvious that the OP isn't Polish, or he would think very differently. From trams which stink of beer and incontinence, to town hall bureaucracy, there are many things wrong with Poland - though we all know about the great things too. But he just HAD to turn it into a UK-bashing exercise, didn't he? Meet me at GMEX station at 1700 and we can walk towards Victoria - I've nearly crashed my car on several occasions due to all the fit women around, but it's not really our fault if you come from a town full of porkers lol.

Seriously, it's not that long since I was asked "do you have 98 grosze" in a MarcPol in Warsaw, for shopping which cost 13,98 PLN. No, I'm not joking.

I replied "how about I give you 14 PLN and you give me 2 grosze change?" You should have seen the look he gave me, lmao. They don't like it when you answer back.

And they like it even less when you say "give me that look again and I'll **** off to Carrefour instead". :D

I know ;)

But my point is that $100 000 USD p.a. is a quite a lot more than I earn over here, despite the fact that I earn a fair bit above average in the UK. But it would never tempt me to move to the USA, even though I will never have to support "a family of four".

Then again, here in the UK, I am forced to pay £700 a month for benefits and pensions I will probably never receive (it all goes on supporting the feckless), so we're not really better off over here.

LIkewise, it's not necessarily relevant that a Polish welder can earn a lot more in a Scandinavian country - many would rather stay at home and earn 7000 PLN a month without having to move abroad.
