News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [682]

were ready with "davaj gnat" for any possible survivors.

Well... **** happens with TU-154M fuel dropping nozzles, but we had another toy - word "gnat" that is well known for everyone except russians. ;)

For your information - closest thing to your mystic "gnat" is verb " gnat' " (with soft sign at end - гнать).

ru.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D0%B3%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%82%D1%8C

" davaj gnat' " may be understood as shortest possible form of something like "let's force them to go out of here". Of course, pretty good idea for a place where accident happened and is not yet investigated by experts, but some unrelated people already come to scene.

If you are not happy with this meaning - it may be understood as "let's distill (probably alcohol)" or "let's drive very quickly" (but this form it is not used often).

In a slang, " gnat' " means - tell some nonsense, like being drunk or under heavy drugs.

Life / Do Russians and Poles get along? [53]

It pretend to be Russian (see Kokoshnik on their head, though I cannot remember such style of decoration to being traditional for any region). ;)

The only time I seen such furious face (and very similar scene) is while being university student. ;) Ukrainian girl come back home to campus and found that their boyfriend (hot guy from Azerbaijan) almost completed to undress their roommate (looks like she was too quite enthusiastic about this). ;)

Fortunately, there was no sharp or heavy objects handy. ;) Little hair loss and roommates swap - all that happened. ;)

News / Russian air traffic controllers ignored communication protocol of Polish pilots? [194]

BTW, just Googled/Wiki'd Smolensk airstrip; looks like it's abou tthe size of a regional airstrip in the States... hell, the Russians even had IL-76's (50-ton transporters) staioned there until last fall... hmmm....

You can see those ILs on sat photo. Locals told that some of them is already somewhat parted (maybe those nearing end of their flight resource, or how max. limit of flight hours and landings can be correctly named in English).

I was really surprised why such city as Smolensk does not have decent airport. Asked my friend who born near Smolensk... Answer was simple - almost no demand.

Smolensk is not so far from Moscow, main hub in european Russia. And there is lots of trains, both direct Smolensk-Moscow and passing (Warsaw, Berlin, Vilnius, Minsk, Brest, etc...). You can come to railway station and get ticket to nearest train, day or night. In about 6 hours you are almost in center of Moscow.

With plane (especially with all that modern security measures) it would take about 3-3.5 hours to get to VNO or DME, and then add at least one hour to reach center of Moscow or at least 2-2.5 hours during daytime to reach SVO. Almost no gain in time, weather dependant and more expensive than train.

I am very curious to know if there was functioning ILS equipment present at Smolensk the week prior when Vlad the Putin landed there... and, if so, what happened to it?

I was told that there is no ILS, as this airstrip is just recently "converted" from military airbase.

Another airport near Smolensk (Smolensk-South) is now defunct, and technically can accept only light regional planes, too short strip, ancient navigation aids. It was planned to be modernized sometime around 2011 to be usable for modern jets.

LOOK CLOSELY--CLEAR, BLUE SKIES!!!

Yeah. Maybe you will look at some last December video from Smolensk - there will be snow, and that will be one more Russian lie about weather conditions. ;)

In a video fragments taken shortly after crash (fragments of plane still burning) I can see fog, and visibility is comparable to those 400m that was stated.

And, in addition, there was whole bunch of polish reporters that land shortly before on a Yak... They been there and should know for sure what weather been there right after their own landing and in time of planned TU landing.

But I don't think you will take anything into account - looks like you live in some parallel world.

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

BTW, just read in the news that one of two parametric recorders will be transported and opened in Warsaw, where will be analyzed with participation of russian experts. Voice recorder and second parametric recorder will be analyzed in Moscow with participation of polish experts.

And remember how Georgia was punished for joining NATO?

1. Georgia never joined NATO. There was just some talk about it. But now NATO leaders will think twice, if not triple times, before continue to deal with Georgian leaders.

2. Georgia was punished not for joining NATO or plans to do so. Georgian military commanded Georgian peacekeepres, that was on same positions as Russian peacekeepers, to silently withdraw, and then opened gunfire to russian peacekeepers and Tchinvali civil buildings. You'll find the rest (with lots of photos) on the Net.

3. Concerning South Ossetia and Abkhazia - better read something before saying that it is legally part of Georgia. Especially about referendums in beginning of 1991 and their results, that was completely ignored by gerogian nationalists that take control over Georgia that time.

usatoday.com/travel/flights/2010-04-13-fog-plane-crash-poland_N.htm

The Polish jet that crashed short of a runway in fog, killing that nation's president and other top leaders, was equipped with a safety device that warns pilots when they get too close to the ground, the device's manufacturer said Tuesday.

The existence of the device deepens the mystery of why the jet struck woods and exploded as pilots attempted to land Saturday at a Russian military airport, aviation safety experts said. If the safety device was working properly, it would be the first such crash of an aircraft equipped with the system since its introduction in the late 1990s.

I wasn't born yesterday.

Surely. I would bet - not less than 14-15 yrs ago, since so fluent English in addition to native Polish takes some time.. ;) Or it was Polish in addition to native English? ;) If so, I will double lower limit - Polish is not so easy to learn.

I think it's obvious.

The most obvious things is not always correct. There is _lots_ of ways how it can be done. You can spend rest of your life speculating about it (I suspect that you already started this lifetime career). And looks like there is no arguments that may change mind of a beleiver.

The majority of people (the ones without fog in their minds) will wait for more information before making final decision.

But then again, there are the likes of George H.W. Bush :)

Believe me, with proper PR and really good funding it is possible to elect almost any idiot for a president, and there is no problems at all with son of former president that shows just a little signs of disorder. ;)

Democracy, as an idea, has one fundamental problem. For example, if you need to solve some question that related to physics. and MUST do this by voting, why (for example) Albert Einstein should have same single vote as drunk degenerate from nearby bar?

With top politics, there is a lot to lose if wrong person is elected. But there is again, vote of drunk degenerate have same weight as vote of bright intellectual.

Very close, if not identical ...

Not exactly identical, but perfectly understandable for a Russian who hear Polish speech.

And even more, on my own experience and by opinions of my friends with which I ever discussed this, for a Russian speaking person more than 50% of Polish words is understandable almost immediately (once one will concentrate on what it _sounds_ in Russian, not how it _written_ in Russian). For the ones who know Ukrainian or Belarussian (even litle bit) even more words understandable immediately.

If I don't understand something, it is often enough to ask for some synonim to understand.

There is some words than really can lead to confusion, though. Sounds similar, but have very different meaning. For example, Polish "Uroda" and Russian "Urod"... ;) If you want to say to a Russian girl about their beauty in Polish, words should be selected with care. ;)

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [682]

Maybe just because Smolensk-South (ICAO: LNX) is a defunct small airport that was built for light planes for a regional flights. In 2008 it was planned to reconstruct this airport sometime in 2011 by lenhtening landing strip, building some additional facilities and installing modern navigation equipment.

To date, all flights to Smolensk is landed at Smolensk-North airstrip.

You need to broaden your vision and do some independent research into Illuminati, New World Order, Bildergerg Group, electromagnetic pulse weapons and HAARP weapons.

Why so narrow list? Let's add torsion fields, Planet X A.K.A. Nibiru, UFOs and the rest.....

Don't know where you got information that there was no fog, I read Smolensk forums just minutes after tragedy, and people told there that they cannot clearly see cars on ground from 9th floor window.

The only fact is Tu 154M was and is Russian flying *********

airdisaster.com/cgi-bin/aircraft_detail.cgi?aircraft=Tupolev+TU-154

There are 29 crash records for the Tupolev TU-154 (all modifications) in database. And only 4 of them (as I can see) can be clearly attributed to aircraft problems. There is 19 crashes since 1990 and only 10 accidents with 154M during all time. Where you got your numbers, of course?

By the way, there are 84 crash records for the Boeing 737 for approximately the same period (6285 planes built vs 1015 TU-154)... Have no time to browse all B737 records to figure out how many crashes is due to technical problems and how mane due to people stupidity... But anyway, TU-154 records is looks not so bad, compared to others...
