Just want to say that English doesn't sound like German even if both are classified as Germanic languages.

Yeah well...swabian doesn't sound like east-frisian either...nor does frankish sound like bavarian etc. etc. etc....
(Nor does sound the berliner dialect as anyone else...in a class of its own!)

Only hundred years back the different regional Germans learned only high-german with their entry to the schools, with 6 years...till then nearly unable to understand each other.

I have nothing against other cultures and tastes...that is all well and fine and of course they should all enrich each other. When they stay at home, that is!

History is a great example: Egypt was a great super power, Mesopotamia is called as the cradle of civilization, even the Ottoman Empire has it's going....

But the penguins (women in full body burkhas) in Neukölln do NOTHING of that sort, believe me!

The same reason why so many sing today in english?
Because it's fashionable and a good way to be distributed world wide?

lol in fact you must be kidding :D german is obviously rude language. talking like arguing. even napeleon said something like "i would talk french with my lover, turkish with my soldier, german with my dog"

First, it was Friedrich der Große!
(And he surely wouldn't talk turkish with his prussian soldiers!)
Second he meant his horse - german horses being a kind of Über-horses you must know!

Third, Turks are just to stupid to learn german....even the turks in the third generation don't grasp it - that is not the germans fault...must be an intelligence thingie..our horses understand better german than turks!

they can't learn german or they don't learn? maybe they don't wish to learn really. maybe you guys treat them such badly that they don't want to hear german language anymore.

maybe....maybe...maybe....I think they are just to stupid.

Classes with mostly turks are low level in every study...they tend to underachieve everywhere...do you want to spend your life blaming somebody else?

German parents take their children out of those classes and try to put them into german-mostly classes for better learning.

And it's not the teachers!

However children from other minorities do very well in the german educational system.

And that shows that all this "those bad, turk hating, xenophobic germans...it's ALL their fault!" fells flat!

Also asked about their likes and dislikes Germans show always that they are not hostile to the foreigner per se...every study shows that we only have a problem with ONE group...guess who!

we talk about how nice turkish sounds above german

If that isn't a sure sign of stupidity then I don't know...

I do not think the german teachers put some extra efforts to help the underachieving turkish children

There are schools in Berlin whith nearly 100 percent turkish/arab youth...the teacher really do their best.
But what do you do for youth who still barely speak the language, are disinterested, do not regularly visit the school and are often highly agressive and disrespectful to their teacher?

The Rütli school in Neukölln had to be closed because the teachers got on strike, they feared for their lifes!
Can you imagine that with german pupils????

It's more a matter of education than intelligence.

I don't think so!
We have children of the fourth generation here in Berlin which are even worse than the first generation...uneducatable!

Excuse me....but if it's part of the "culture" to be ignorant to the education of their offspring...well...screw that culture!

I once saw a doku about teaching in such a problem class...I couldn't stand it to see the teacher in the front preaching to a group of desinterested youth who didn't listen, had nothing on their tables, talked loudly in turk with themselves and frankly couldn't be arsed to listen to this poor sod called teacher.

They even had still their jackets on...
Do you know that teacher get regularly beaten up by their students???
Unthinkable with Germans...

Of course....these kids will get barely an education, most won't get a certificate at all, unable to communicate in german...but when they don't get work who's fault will that be? The Germans, of course!

That is sick man!

It IS a matter of education, culture. The problem is not the kids, it's the parents.

Agreed!

But...it's as I said already the third or fourth generation...their parents and their grand parents were already born here and got to school here.

And NOTHING has changed...that is not normal!
Should we just accept it, just shrug and say: "Well..it's their culture!" ???

What do you advise?

I just think education met her limit if there is no will to become educated...

PS: And ignoring a good school education, ignoring the importance of learning the language of the host country, ignoring the need of good, respectful behaviour IS stupid!

To say a person of colour is not really French (or British or German) is pure ignorance!

In Germany we have that problem that our society never really knew a distinction between being of german ethnicity and citizen of Germany.
But times have changed!

Saying a colored human is German as in "of german ethnicity" is wrong, but it is of course possible for him to become a citizen of Germany, the state.

If a person is born and raised in a country he is a product of that country.

NOT if they are raised in a "parallel society", living only in their ghettos, speaking only
their language between each other...having barely contact with the "outside" - the host country around them.
In Germany we have those...

Maybe fourth generation german Turks are just sick of not being accepted as Germans?

Okay....now we have this situation:

1.) Many Germans are never going to accept these foreigners - regardless the long and heavy pressure of multikulti politicians and media!

2.) Many foreigners are unwilling to assimilate and to integrate even in the third generation born and raised in Germany

So...what do you advise???

We don't even have a word for it to differ between ethnic Germans and non-ethnic Germans/citizens of Germany...what's your problem?

so what does the term "richtige Deutsche" mean? That's an honest question.

Good question....
The best answer (for me personally) was something I read in a discussion about this. One poster wrote that WWII was something of a defining time in the history of our people....and having the infamous "Arier-Nachweis" was kind of mandatory.

He concluded that every citizen who can connect to that, whose family took part in this, is definitely a German!
That's only one way to define "Germanness", but for me it works!

Only when it serves to illustrate a point.

Which point in Germany 2008 should the Nazis help to illlustrate???
