News / THE ARMY OF POLAND - THE REALITY [382]

probably really meant 1775 or you need to crack a book on PL history.

You probably meant 1795 or you need to crack a book on Polish history>

History / Teaching our kids about Poland's History [57]

Since we all know that Poland's history is not well known in the world, we must ask ourselves what exactly can we do about it?

Besides making ourselves a supereconomic power and projecting it abroad via sheer influence, of course.

History / The great mistakes of Poland's history? [216]

Personally I think not finishing off the Prussians and the Russians when we had a chance were the worst mistakes we have ever done: in other words, we've been too merciful.

But is this a good or a bad thing?

Quick question Sokrates, are you actually Polish? I thought otherwise in some other threads.

Also you have good knowledge about the September campaign, I certainly am surprised at it, i.e I haven't met any people who got things as right as you have.

News / Interactive German-Polish Map [19]

Don't be fools! Teaching the American public? Who would even show such a movie there?
Remember the Katyn movie was only viewed about 40 000 times in America, most Americans hadn't even heard of it when it was nominated for best Foreign.

The directors of it would probably be faced off with being labeled "Holocaust Deniers".

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [682]

My prayers to our President, Lech Kaczynski, his wife, and all the other people of this crash.

I can hardly believe some of the comments posted on this topic, I mean, the victims bodies are probably still warm and some of you have the nerve to make it all a joke?

Anyways, I find it hard to believe that someone did this dreadfull incident, but at the same time, it does seem rather coincident...
I don't really think Russia is responsible, and the only real reason I could imagine them having a hand in this is if they wanted to show a warning, about "past relations" and who's in charge...

But I'm much rather inclined to believe it could be somebody else who wanted to put a stop between the our (PL and Russ) warming relations, and to put a wedge between it.

Just a few words from Polski Radio.

"Many of Poland's political and military elite appear to have lost their lives in the accident, including Poland’s the last president in exile Ryszard Kaczorowski, former defence minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski, head of the Presidential Chancellery Wladyslaw Stasiak, presidential spokesman Pawel Wypych, Secretary of State Mariusz Handzlik, head of the Law and Justice party in parliament Przemyslaw Gosiewski, MP Zbigniew Wassermann and Bishop Tadeusz PÅ‚oski."

"Komorowski takes over as head of state"

Truly horrible, these people helped form Poland's spirit...

Read his post more carefully.

Whoever dies during the Enlightened Week goes straight to Heaven, regardless of what sins they had.

Obviously everyone gets to sit beside him, their titles from Earth mean nothing to him if they are received like any other unnamed person.

Whats the point of even having posting that...

History / Poles and (Polish) Jews... Victims of war... and beyond [301]

Btw to everyone, the Soviets Unions casualties of 20 million weren't all even killed by Nazis, indeed only between 5-9 were killed by Germans.

-The rest were murdered by the Soviets themselves.

History / 'Poland: A Knight Among Nations' - Book about Poland by an American Author, dated 1907 [51]

This is a very good book, thanks very much Madparasol.
I started reading it an hour ago (I'm on page 58 now) and it's really got a hold on me, even if reading off the internet is rather uncomfortable.

It is incredible: you are hearing facts and opinions on Poland from 103 years back, even when we didn't have our own country, and about what if Poland was to regain independence!

All PF members who are intrested should really get around to reading it, I think a must have for those studying Polish history.

Thanks a lot again, this is a golden find!

History / Why Poles love Russia [105]

These are but a few of the reasons that readily come to mind. There are many, many more examples of the crimes and misdeeds of a genetically flawed semi-Slavic/semi-Mongol nation which knows only intrigues and brute force against its own people and their neighbours.

You've forgotten robbing Poland (and Lithuania) of thousands of literature, state records, and all sorts of documents in 1795, and not having given the vast majority that we still don't have back. (We're still waiting)

We are waiting for the Berlinka still too...

We should give that back too: better to have no art than art by Germans (not saying German art is bad, but that we are basically stealing someone else's culture)

History / Why Poles love Russia [105]

Improve my knowledge :)

Art moved by Germans into occupied Poland during ww2, and which stayed there (the Polish gov. tried to keep it secret and that it was repayment for all the art Germans destroyed)

History / The Pogrom on Jews at Eishyshok (Ejszyszki) in Poland [68]

And Jolanda, please stop pretending you are Polish. It just sounds stupid. It's like I would say I am Polish because I am married to one. You better don't use "us", "our(s)" and "we" ... it's pathetic.

Careful there, Copernicus considered himself Polish but I don't see you scolding him for having considered that, even though he was technically an ethnic German.

I consider myself polish, even if I was brought up 100% in Canada, simply because I speak polish (perhaps not as well as I would want) and know it's history very well (probably better than most Poles), and because I'm proud of being Polish, and there is nothing you can say or write that could change the way i feel or the what I consider myself to be.

(nothing personal, this actually goes to all other PF posters who say what you have just said)

Life / Anyone else suffering from mosquito bites in Poland? [52]

For the love of God, do NOT use sprays or other chemicals, they are harmful to EVERYTHING, what is a few minutes of discomfort compared to a few years more of life (actually it's not as bad as that).

There is plenty of natural repellents, I use them all the time when I go to Kaszuby for Harcerstwo (the one in Canada, by the way. And Mosquitos there are HELL {I won't even get started on how bad it is})

EDIT: Also is it true that leg hairs are protection against nasty bugs? Seems to work for me, and I'm not even in full manhood yet.

History / The Two Saddest Nations on Earth... Poles and Jews [171]

Many of you will think: "Not another Polish-Jewish thread again"

But I felt this to be necessary...

I want to ask all members on this forum who are really care about such things and don't just try to degrade their fellow Poles/Jews, to make an attempt to show that they really would want Jewish Polish relations to be mended; not on a official foreign relations level, but on a personal level, that we can each say individually "I forgive you", and mean it.

I would like to see if we could all show the friendship between our two nations, whether historical or modern, by posting pictures, work of arts, texts, our own words, or anything else that you feel would help our current stance, or that shows appreciation towards our two nations.

I encourage none-Poles and none-Jews also to help us by showing what you believe our nations were and should become.

If this thread becomes what I hope it will be, I will send it to as many sites and people as I can who still have conflicts in matters between Jews and Poles as proof that we can still be friends despite all hardships, and that we will be for the rest of time.

The Reception of the Jews in Poland

Please, if you mean it, if you think the rift between Poles and Jews should be mended, post below

Allow me to begin

One of my favorite movies with a Jewish character:

History / The Two Saddest Nations on Earth... Poles and Jews [171]

Sire, it needs MUCH more than a forum to change popular sentiments. Change comes from both within and outwith. Besides, many Polish PF members didn't live through WWII. They were very different times. Poland has had enough of a transformation to go through after the collapse of communism.

Well, I knew that, just I wanted to see for myself if the common person even tries to change something themselves; I always thought that many Poles wouldn't be as hate-filled as some do seem to be...

Who am I to mess with imperfections anyways...

History / The Two Saddest Nations on Earth... Poles and Jews [171]

Sire, do you live in Poland? The Jewish question is really not that big amongst common people, believe me. The Poles are more focussed on carving out their own way. I'd very much class indifference the lesser of two 'evils' when cast alongside outright hostility, wouldn't you?

No, I don't live in Poland (yet), but I see your point (all to clearly)

Remember, don't make the issues of yesteryear a burden for those of today. They have their own pressing issues to contend with.

I think that's a good finale for this thread.

Hmm, and sorry about your deceased relative, God bless her.

To many posts to answer... But all I can say is (never mind my original idea, since half of it was to NOT post none-progressive stuff) that I actually like the way this thread is going.

I can't really put it into words, but it feels like people are talking deeper than on all those other Polish-Jewish threads.

Thanks very much to everyone who is participating (yes M-G, you did too) I learning quite a bit, reading old texts and half buried (not literally of course) books on Jewish-Polish relations is all very fine, but it will never quite beat the real people expressing their opinions.

By the way, just so people don't get the idea that I'm a Jewophile (whatever that is) this is my first discussion that I am involved in that involves Jews and Poles, generally I am rather critical of Zionists (not to an unreasonable amount though) but my Polish Patriotism actually compels me to... do something (anything) about mending this issue.

-The Two Saddest Nations on Earth... Poles and Jews;
To all those making a fuss about the title, meaning that you don't understand that it's not being used literally, then my only advice is not either learn English or abandon using it completely.

History / Poles in the Napoleonic era [224]

There are 2 of uhlans but they don' seem to be Polish unfortunately:

No, they are both Polish lancers, though maybe the men wearing the uniform aren't.
