Language / Prefixes used with 'chodzić'- to walk. [12]

i am trying to fully understand the word prefixes. if i take the word 'chodzić'- to walk.
then am i correct in saying that...

przechodzić = i will walk/ will be coming
przychodzić = walking with....
odchodzić = walking back/ from/ returning
wychodzić = arrived at / finished / competed my objective
zachodzić = walk with / walk into

these prefixes are confusing me, maybe there is a morew simple way to understand them.

thanks

Language / Do I have these Polish word cases right? [16]

well leo
i was impressed by that simple explanation, you restored my faith. i will have another stab at it. the point here is, i have just met my extened family after the war, so clearly i want to comunicate with them. right now i am doing ok i think, but it all helps.

i do follow more clearly the ' who does, verb, to whom' method, i think lots opn this forum have been great with me, at times i think they would like me to have stiopped, so i do give my thanks to them all.

Language / Do I have these Polish word cases right? [16]

i hear what you say gumishu
i have tried very hard to get the handle of this language, and it has occurred to me that i dont think i ever will. and the reason being all the idioms, i have spent all weekend looking at them and most dont make gramatical sense.one that caught me eye was ;

żyć nie umierać
which was supposed to mean ' heaven and earth.
why dont they just say that,
niebo i ziemia.
so i asked myself ' how hard was that' . and i just get blown away with it all, so i decided that what i know now can only get better, so i will stop working on it as hard as i have done, i just get more and more frustrated and achieve not a lot.

but thanks for your input.

Language / How to say 'mean' in Polish? [22]

so going back to my first post. in general for me to say 'mean' are the following correct that the average pole would understand.

do you mean to say. czy cię znaczyć do mów
did he mean to say. zrobiła on znaczyć do mów
I mean to say. ja znaczyć do mów
what he meant to say was. co on znaczyć do mów był

well helpful
that has thrown me completely. i see that an object can only be znaczyć, you are using the meaning of saying' what do you WANT to tell me'.

when i have asked my polish cousin, 'co do znaczy słowo' = what does the word mean' i was wrong then?
surely there must be a word that says 'i mean' not 'i want'.
i understand if i wanted to say ' i want' i wold use the word chcę, but not if i wanted to say 'mean'. or have i got polish completely wrong.

chaza

szwed i am more confused now, upto now, i have learnt that chodzić is to walk or do s/th on foot, to say,' that is exactly what i mean' i would have said 'to jest właśnie co ja znaczyć'.

i know my polish is still in development, i would not have used chodzić.

so i can only use znaczyć, using znaczałem for example is not allowed. what does oznacza mean. if i wanted to say, i mean , you mean, iwould have to use ja znaczyć, ty znaczyć. is that correct.

also when i use the word czy i understand that to mean do ,does, did, along with other words of course.

Language / Polish case structure secrets: knowing which words go in which position? [9]

thanks for that alex
it is from outside poland, although my cousin is in poland and i get help from her too, i have read about cases till again and again, i just dont get it. i understand what they are sying, but when i want to say something, my natural instinct is to say the polish eqivalent of what i want to say, which as you can see turns out to be wrong. my cousin says forget about the grammar for now lets just work on speaking polish, which is what i am doing now. i have been at this for two years, i am a lot better now, but it does frustrate me.

i agree rozumi
that phrase was just an example of my issue, it did make me laugh when alex said throw the books away. i would be lost without my book. when i say my book i mean the book where i write down all the things that you would say in real life situations. without my book i cant remember them.

Language / Polish case structure secrets: knowing which words go in which position? [9]

hello again.
the problem i am still having is understanding the secret of knowing which words go in which position. when i wantb to say something, when i write it or say it, the words are in the wrong position, which makes the grammar wrong. so i still cant get my head around understanding how i put this right. for example;

postawiła na stół bukiet ciętych róź.
she put a bouquet of cut roses on the table.
if i wanted to say that, as the words came to my mind, i would naturaly put;
ona włoźię bukiet na cięty kwiaty na stół.

but the grammer is wrong you will now say, so what is the secret or tool to help correct this.

thank for that asik
i realise it could be impossible, but i was hoping that maybe they were reading this, a mammoth bit of luck if they were. the spelling im not 100% about. she moved there to koszalin and from there info stopped. her daugther, the spelling is also unsure about. i was hoping that someone from koszalin would respond, but that is not to be i suppose, but thatnks to you all. grandad is lutowski. i had a look at loszalin to see how many grave sites there were, so when i visit, i can take a look, but as my info goes he was buried in an unmarked grave, so it would appear that my task is going to be impossible.

hi there
i am trying to find or get some thread which i can investigate, to find the burial place of my grandfather. i understand he was taken by my aunt maryinya to koszylin, i dont have her surmane, but she had a child called yadwiga. maryinya married a russian guy. what kind of venture am i likely to have to go to koszylin and search the parish record there, is koszylin a big place, any piece of info may prove valuable. maybe yadwiga is on facebook or soomething like that.

thank everyone
