USA, Canada / Polish people in Alaska [41]

Land might be cheaper there than let's say in California but again, I know very little about it...

Any land is cheaper than Californian. A lot of people in the lower 48 are talking about moving to Alaska to pan for gold just like in the old days.. what with prices for gold right now.

News / Should Poland Remove Visa Restrictions? [285]

You have to admit Europe as a continent has pretty much everything, and the best of many things.

Yes, Europe is amazing on a lot of levels.. just very expensive is all and kind of crowded. Everybody should visit it at least once.

I've seen, if you know the overall price levels in California and New York (pretty expensive) - add 20-35% and you'll come pretty close to Alaska rates.

True.. but land is probably cheaper in Alaska??

Language / Which is the BEST, EASIEST to learn & most helpful"POLISH FOR FOREIGNERS"course? [32]

For learning basic phrases and words I really like BYKI software. They give you free lists but you can purchase a very large list for about $50 with disk for $60. However, I found a Spanish version in a used book store for $10. Amazon might have some used software for really cheap.

Anyway, BYKI software doesn't give the grammar basics but it does let you hear Old / Young.. Female / Male speakers and even take multiple choice tests. Very good for the money and probably the best for beginners who just want to get an intro feel for the language.

I would NOT pay $100s of dollars for Pimleur etc. Here again try Amazon.com for some used cds.

I am looking for some info from very kind person who can tell me about living conditions, jobs, renting home/apt, etc...Anything that is needed to know to start living in Alaska.

Whenever you need to know about cities /states in the US you can go to City-Data.com to get that kind of info. Like how to get a job or how much is electricity.. whatever you want.

Just type a question and somebody will answer usually with 24 - 48 hours.

How about establishment? Those who in fact created such trend wont face any consequences! So, here we have real problem. Here you should transfer you anger.

Now we know who you talk about here.. Babyboomers are in control and let the "establishment" do these things. What can I say, things turn slowly in a big country.

Babyboomers, yours obsession :)

Well, not really.. You study economics , right? You want to tell me the US is not in serious decline? It is.. mostly because of these idiotic decisions made by these babyboomers. I'm sorry but it is true. They have been in power for sometime now. Not only do the decisions effect us but also Europe.. I dont know why you should be so kind to them. ??

and in Germany at least green-tech becomes more and more an important economical factor which makes for more and more employment)

but who is going to figure out your taxes in the IRS corn maze or get your a** out of trouble when you need it?

The stupid business class created this corn maze. Like children you have to be watched hence things like Sarbannes - Oxley.. hence a damn Pay Czar to keep you from ripping off shareholders. You are pathetic most times.. needing protection from your own kind. :-(

Stop yearning for a muzzle of the good ol' communist regime.

I'm not yearning for 'good ol' communist anything'.. but I am learning for the business class to be exposed for what they are, which is typically pathetically greedy.

Look at what your babyboomer generation has done to one of the greatest economic machines ever conceived. .. and still you don't get it do you? Only: Profit, profit, profit, money, money, money. Now my poor generation has to clean up and pay for your idiocy.

;- ((

and who needs a pile of glass and paper to recycle?

Who needs another landfill?

But who needs millions of lawyers and accountants??? ;)

Lying and cheating, falsifying earnings reports, creating more credit crises? Nobody needs them.

Yeah...the "to many lawyers and accountants"-syndrome! :(

Right, a true product the idiot 80's mentality. Hopefully.. we can soon replace that with "scientists and teachers" syndrome. With green energy all the rage there is actually a market for these jobs more and more.

Things are getting better not really worse, imo.

I can agree with you there in some regards...

I am heading up to Vancouver this summer though. Don't get me wrong, you guys do a lot of things right. If you didn't genuflect to the limey so much I would respect you more.

(coworker, friend, a family memeber..you name it) living the life style you actually want.

There is the problem: You are letting other people dictate to you what the good life is. People always have more / less. Worrying about what you don't have all the time is ridiculous.. and it sadly permeates American culture. I love the US always will but not that aspect of it.

Money isn't everything, but it does make things a hell of a lot easier.

Not if it puts you in an early grave. I can tell you're young. "Big money" isn't really all that attainable. But good luck to you if you want to go for it. Don't lose your soul in the process.

If you graduate in the US, hell, even if you don't graduate, you can go to college as long as you you're test scores are in line.

basically true.

You're following capitalism's definition of success, which leads you to work, and never find success. Each and every one of you should define your own success. Don't let someone else define it for you. Indeed, don't let a system that wants only your labor to define it for you.

A lot of people will blow this off as a socialist's rant. Not me. I've chased money (and found it on occasion) .. it doesn't make you that happy. Women will just prey on you basically, lol. It's fun in your 20's not your 30 - 40's.

You know what makes me happy in general? Learning things, new experiences.

It's much easier to be successful in the US than it is in Europe if you come from modest means.

That used to be true but it's not so much as it was. Things are tightening fast with the ascension of China. Real wages are down and you'll typically need some kind of higher education to get a decent job.
