Life / EXPATS in POLAND: 10 things you miss / don't miss about home . . . [138]

Jul 6, 09, 23:27 - Thread attached on merging:
RESEARCH FOR NEW BUSINESS 10 THING YOU MISS THE MOST FROM THE UK......

Hi Everyone,

I'm interested to know what people from the UK living in Poland or Polish people who lived in the UK and now live back in Poland miss the most.

I'm talking about things you can't buy in the shops over here, for instance a good selection of English books or malt vinegar etc etc

If people could help me by listing the ten things they miss most it would be really helpful and might also make an interesting thread!!!

Thanks a million in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Language / Polish and Hungarian, how similar? [53]

Not an expert but from what I know they are completely different and i think what you are asking would be pretty unrealistic.

Love / I want my Polish gf to live with me but she says life here is too hard [31]

Sounds like you're in a tough situation mate, I met my misses in UK and she wanted to go back to Poland to finish her degree so I agreed to move with her and honestly it's been the best choice I ever made. Having kids though makes it hard i appreciate that.

All I can suggest is trying to find a decent job for her but like I said it's hard in the UK at the mo

Wish you the best of luck though

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

Sorry but I think that a lot of what is being written on this thread is rubbish. If someone who is thinking about moving to Poland is reading this and feeling good then think again.

People who say they are earning 3000zł a month to hand and claiming this is enough in major cities are talking c**p.

OK if you are here for a year and you have no responsibilities in your life fine you might scrape by on that but if you want something more it is not nearly enough.

Trust me (someone who has tried it) from 3000zł a month you won't have any money to save and pay for all those little extras that pop up you will be counting every grosze.

You will be drinking (occasionally) in very student orientated pubs and a nice meal out will blow your budget to bits, that's before you start thinking about paying for flights back home for visits or Christmas present etc etc etc.

sorry if this sounds harsh but I invite anyone who earns 3000zł per month to tell me that they do anything more than scrape by and don't struggle

@ Bolek, sorry I don't get your point.

I'm simply saying that someone who say's they are earning 2000-3000zł and getting by quite nicely is misleading people.

Yeah of course people live in nice flats and drive nice cars, expats included but they earn more than that like you said so once again I don't get your point.

Law / Company bank account in Poland - can a company use a personal bank account? [11]

Hi,

Really weird this thread has come up now as I'm just today trying to work this out myself.

I have a sole trader company and most of my customers transfer money into my bank account, someone told me I need a business account but if a customer goes to my bank to pay money into a business account they will have to pay about 6zł (I think this is the norm in Poland with business accounts?) So for obvious reasons I would rather use my personal account.

can anyone confirm if I can keep using my personal account for this?

Thanks

UK, Ireland / UK Ip address while living in Poland [14]

I signed up to this:

filmon.com/tv/

It costs 10euro a month but you get bbc 1, 2 itv ch4 and loads more and the stream is crystal clear, well worth the money. I have been watching the snooker all week plus various other shows and not had any problems with it. Each channel even has a low speed option if you don't have fast internet.

Polonia / Polish satellite TV abroad [40]

I don't need Sky News, BBC World, BBC1, 2, 3 and 4

We don't need "adult" entertainment

So what exactly do you need?

Law / Poland's going forward while Britain is still trying to wake up [86]

On 4k a month you could live with 2 kids and also rent quite easily.

Are you talking about zł or pounds?

If you are talking about zł then it would be impossible. Let's say 1000zł per month for food and then rent and bills 2000zł (minimum.) That would leave only 1000zł per month for everything else and if you think that is enough you are living in a fantasy world.
