Life / Why is cheating at schools in Poland accepted?! [155]

This is not a myth....its true..it happens..take off your blinkers

I have to agree with you here....I taught English in Poland for a year and learnt/saw some really inventive cheating methods, that I had never never heard of or seen before..for example copying asnwers in tiny tiny writing onto a tiny strip of paper and inserting into a biro, writing on leg under skirt, etc etc in fact so much effort and time was being put into cheating it would have been easier/quicker just to study....:)

Language / Polite forms in Polish vs English [49]

yes certainly more economical..;)
I suppose tone is hard to pick up on in any language u are learning.
I think tone is REALLY important in English too....for example, that thing I cant stand! when British people are saying polite words or forms but with a really horrible tone? And then you cant even say they are being rude! Like when "oh I am so sorry!" actually means F@@@ u?

Language / Polite forms in Polish vs English [49]

English/American people may feel offended by the way they are addressed by Polish people,

yes this is true....direct translation can sound really abrupt...for example starting a sentence with "Listen!" or (in a cafe for example) "yes?"

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

ok if we are doing stereotypes......;}

Greek men.....have hairy backs and live with their mothers who have hairy lips and chins
Italian men....have their own blood pressure machines and go to Accident and Emergency if they have a cold; ditto re mothers;
Polish men.......alcoholic wife beaters who will quite happily watch their pregnant sister carry home a new carpet on their backs while they drink some more vodka with their mates. Ditto re mothers.......

etc etc repeat til fade.

Language / Polite forms in Polish vs English [49]

the English just can’t be as simple and straightforward as probably every other nation in the world

I dont suppose you'd mind terribly explaining what on earth exactly you mean here, would you?....:}

Language / Your perception of the Polish accent [145]

No offence, but it seems that the English have no different accents - they are just trying to make individual efforts to avoid speaking properly.

ha ha ha
thanks......;)
Of course we have different accents, you only have to go few miles before it changes.
Maybe you're not listening>?
