News / Newsweek's The World's Best Countries (Poland ranked 29) [128]

I think the fact that an average Joe in the US would eat 3 big mac meals a day, proves the low quality of food and therefore living.

Exactly, no one in their right mind would prefer fast food, for good old fashioned home cooking, much more fresh and healthy. fast food is cheap, for 5 dollars you get a whole meal at McDonalds, for 5 bucks you can't even buy a nice raw steak at the market, then you need to buy potatoes, side dishes. Home cooking is more expensive and time consuming, but healthier. Not many young people in Poland with multiple "rolls" on their stomachs.

a good steak at a restaurant costs min. $30... plus the sides... (in TX)

i know, i said you can't even buy a good raw steak at a market, a supermarket, to take home and make it yourself, it's like 10 bucks.

We have cheap igredients

cheap good healthy ingredients, not cheap as in bottom shelf off brand crap. if it costs less in Poland that is, and it's healthier home cooking, why on earth would anyone want McDonalds, to pay more for fatty fast food? I think people in Poland who are so anxious to eat at McDonalds or KFC are the ones that wanna fit in, with that whole western thing, do as they do out west, which isn't of course always the better way, as in this example.

Home cooking can be very cheap here and very healthy and tasty and people do not go out to any kind of restaurants much but that is changing.

Of course, why wouldn't they want to, it's nice to eat out, not stand over the fumes cooking the food and eventually loosing all taste of the food you made for yourself. But eating at a good restaurant not fast food joint. Upper middle class and upper class Americans have 10 thousand dollar Viking refrigerators that are completely empty lol, they never eat at home, always out.

Genealogy / Some Macedonian, Croatian, Serbian Second Names look Polish! [38]

both languages, -ski names are considered typically Polish

No i know a Bosnian his name ends with ski, every Slavic country has ski endings even Bulgaria, it's just spelled differently, in Russia sky in Ukraine if i'm not mistaken skyj or skyi. Just like we spell Russian last names ow not ov, but we do that just to other slavic names.

They need to know what is written on the packages they steal.

hehe i'm guessing ur a Serb, i have a Serb friend he doesn't like them at all. I met Albanians most i didn't like seamed like they thought too highly of themselves, i dunno what achievement that is based on. And Seanus said something about Albanian girls being pretty, i met one with one absolutely gorgeous, but almost all the other ones were below average. I've never met a Serb girl so i can't comment.

USA, Canada / Polish Fighter Tomasz Adamek vs Michael Grant WAR [20]

Grant's a bum, after being knocked out so many times a fighter's confidence is damaged permanently, he's hesitant to opening up and taking risks, doesn't wanna get embarrassed again. I think Adamek will win on points, he doesn't have the punching power to drop Grant, unless Grant don't fight back and he'll be able to land multiple combinations.

true, many people don't wanna believe how important legs are, if legs are well built you know how to position them correctly that adds much to ones punching power.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1462]

exactly, Poles English Irish, we all come with blond, brown, or black hair and different eyes, there is no typical look, but i think there a few typical looks there is an idea how how a blond Polish person looks like, with typically light eyes, light hair, shape of eyes and face, facial features, same with a brunette, they may look similar, but there are differences you can tell a brunette girl is Polish, or Irish or English, small difference but they exist, the exact skin tone, shape of eyes, head many different things.

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

I remember in Poland even in the summertime people drinking hot tea, a nice cold drink is refreshing. Americans over do it with the ice, you gotta drink something hot sometimes, it's better on your stomach.

USA, Canada / PolAms -- do you regard yourselves only as 'white Americans'? [187]

dirty russian race mixed slav and clean polish slav

Russians are not dirty, this isn't 1930's Russia anymore, they are clean people who take care of themselves. With regards to admixture they do have an admixture but so do we. Of course Polish in America regard themselves as white, that's what we are.

Travel / My (short) Poland experiences - bad luck? [142]

It's hard to understand Polish people if you're not Polish, we have a different mentality, being loud on the street yelling or talking loud means being trashy, you don't stop or bother someone you don't know, or stare at them. But people should smile more, it's kinda depressing looking at that, some have a look like they've just about had it with life and wanna commit suicide, their depression can make you depressed.

Genealogy / Polish Last Name..Putrykow? [8]

maybe it's Petrikov instead?

Yea sounds like a Polish spelling of a Russian name, maybe your ancestor was a Polish Russian. Like our footballer Michał Żewłakow last name, Zevlakov in Russian, or former minister of national defense Romuald Szeremietiew, from Russian Sheremetyev.

News / Black Haitians considering themselves as Poles [31]

I've lived in the States since i was 9, but i was born and bred in Poland, probably will live here till i die, but i don't think i'll ever consider myself an American, whenever i go back to Poland remember my childhood see my old friends my family, see people that look similar to me and are what i am, i know and feel that is where i belong, that that's home.

Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Blood most definitely. People who are simply born in Poland are are of a different ethnicity aren't Polish, just Polish born. To be really Polish you gotta look it, speak it, think the way a Pole does. Polish born people of other ethnicity when they find out they are something else embrace it, as if they knew, felt they're different from they're Polish counterparts. Also them foreign born Poles, Poles of Polish descent are different, completely differ in mentality.
