News / Schools in Poland to strike tomorrow [235]

I saw this survey :
gratka.pl/regiopraca/portal/porady/prawa-pracownika/ile-godzin-tygodniowo-pracuja-nauczyciele

I think that like in any other job some teacher are quick and well organised some not. I think that this 47 hours is bit exaggerated.

I think that no one denies that education is important.

It is just my opinion but I think that there are too many teachers now they struggle to have enough hours but at the same time they expect increase at their salary. It is a bit like working part time and expecting salary for full time job. Something has gone wrong somewhere. There are too many forms, bureaucracy for teachers to fill.... just waste of time. I think there should be certain amount of lessons and then allocated time for preparation, checking test- time spent at school as working time for which they should be paid.

It appears that for today there are too many teachers . Just market rules - surplus in any industry is not easy to utilise.

I suppose it depends how you define 'educated' and 'highly educated'.? We bought house last year and we had quite a few people doing some work ( plumber, electrician, painters, someone putting floor) - They were all British and they have done very good job but I would describe them as with normal basic education- which in UK it would be leaving school at 16 and learning trade. There is not only school education but general intelligence , interest about world , reading books, papers....it is very personal so we should not stereotype it.

You get quite extreme. Of course they can read and write but.... probably can't discuss modern art or Einstein theory :-)

Don't you exaggerate a bit? Exactly - how many plumbers or electricians in UK are so highly educated? I would not say that there were any more under Labour.

Of course there is not - but let's be honest they don't tend to have masters degree....Unless some starving sculptor or philosopher would retrain :-)

You sound very snobbish here but to be honest there is more use for good trader like plumber, electrician.... than of philosopher or sculptor.

News / Petition for War Crimes Reparations for Poland [126]

@dolnoslask

By 'You' I mean nation and country. The same can be said to British as 'you' who invaded half of the world and created their colonies . It is just stating fact. British don't have problem admitting it. Germans usually say 'Nazi' as if it was some UFO from the moon.

Germans of today don't have responsibility of the history. I think everyone should only be responsible for their own action. But as I said some humbleness would be appreciated .

I think that raising again subject of reparation is just stirring up as everyone knows it is not going happen.

What is sad and worrying for me its burying under the carpet all what happened during second world war as if nothing happened and feeling as good Samaritans of Europe.

Bit of humbleness would be appreciated sometimes.

Countries don't help each other. There is just politics and interests and cooperation for benefits of countries.

It is not just Hitler you invaded and wanted to annihilate Poland and it is not forgotten. You can't just erase it as it never happened.

Every country has their poets, writers, inventors, composer.....

No they have not changed. They are very extreme from dangerously nationalist to feeling some sort of 'guilt' so letting into their country anyone. Then realised it was mistake ( never admitted ) so try forcefully share it with other countries.

To some extent I can understand it. It is not very easy to deal with all their history.

Maybe you GDP is high but all this bullying of other countries in EU, cheating in fuel emission of produced cars, open borders to anyone ( criminals, terrorist...) from third world and than smoothly covering up any unpleasant information ( Cologne) by national news, ageing society and poverty in old age. Plus country full of nationalists: closet one or open one.

Sorry - Germany is the last of the countries in Europe I would ever like to live. Just high GDP does not make people happy.

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

To be honest -from my experience- there are 2 kind of Brits.

Normal, open-minded people ( usually educated and well travelled) and narrow-minded 'little Englanders' who feel superior to to anyone foreign.

Unfortunately you can't verify teachers the way you can verify chef in the restaurant - it has been already raised here before.

But I think that their hours should be more defined - how many lessons per week- if they have to prepare or check tests they should do it at school. Maybe should be some rooms provided for it.

I don't know this Academy so I can't comment.

Of course job market verify your skills but ( am not sure if it so strong demand now) you could hardly find any decent office job in the past without certificate of finishing University.

I am not abut USA but I Europe Oxford, Cambridge, Sorbona.....they are not private.

To be honest Spike - Opinion about lots private academies in Poland is not very good.

I heard this opinion that lots 'not very clever people' go there and pay to finish.

I know they do but it is not just my opinion.I have friend she comes form teachers' family and as she supports strike she admitted this surplus of teachers. I think teachers are very different some prepare themselves for lessons but some do minimum and more experience ones use preparation from previous years.

I still remember geography teacher in my grammar school. She was sitting reading somethink and asked us to read lesson from book. from time to time there was test which she had to check. I woukd not say she was overworked with any preparations.

I think the problem with the teachers is that there are too many of them. There are not enough hours of lessons for decent pay. As a result they expect to earn huge salaries on small amount of school hours. If it was in private company someone would be redundant or hours would be reduced as part time. Teachers demand full pay. Sorry but I find it ridiculous.

I suppose by moving from Poland to UK I compare some things. It started to be obvious to me that if we want to build social houses, pay 500zl per child, increase salaries of police, nurses, teacher....there is not enough money in budget and we need another tax to top it up.

In relation to council tax I don't agree with it. Someone already pays lots money to buy house in nice area ....why to charge him still monthly for it?

I think Poland has different mentality. Like when living in flat you pay for rubbish collection depending on how many people live in flat. Also pensions. I know it is going to change in Poland for worse. In UK you can be Managing Director and pay contribution for state pension for 30 years and you have the same state pension as someone on minimum wages after 30 years.
