Well, I caught up on reading your thread today. I like the Misiu story :) It looks like you pretty much settled but I don't think you'll stop comparing your experiences from your western world to your current one anytime soon, if ever. Once you live somewhere also you tend to notice the difference and behavior of locals. Something that is obvious to you as different is normal to them. Even a dirty toilet on the PKP train, they've always been dirty and so became a norm - but you noticed. It's the same with the married guy, people knew, you didn't - but nobody warned you whispering to you 'he is married'. Observing the potential drama and taking"see what happens attitude"is more fun apparently. However dishonest. I can not imagine a family member or a friend who knew the marital status not telling me.

I would rather live in a trailer park than in some post communist concrete block. Have any of you ever see a trailer inside? They can be amazingly huge and comfortable, unlike the tiny apartment in blocks. Not to mention some quite expensive cars parked in front of the trailers, just the same as in front of nice condo buildings or individual homes.(Ok, I don't know about trailer homes down South). Many people live there because they can not afford the same space in a condo or a house. Some live there because this all they can afford and it beats a beat up apartment in the city in a questionable neighborhood.

In regards to public transportation: public transportation might be good everywhere in the world (Europe) but I want my car in front of the house and to use it at my convenience. End of story. The only time when busses and trains are full in Chicago is the morning and evening rush hour. Otherwise they are a waste of gas and taxpayers money.

I use it too. A few of us share user ID and password. It came to $22.00 for six months and a lot of good stuff to watch! All the 'free' websites I checked are just a bunch of crap. Nothing is free. Yes, flat dough, no yeast. Pierogi are kind of bigger ravioli.

The kapusta/boiled eggs filling is somewhat unusual. I never heard of it. However, the mushrooms with fried onions sound good...Maybe I can talk my friend into improvising this kind of rolls. She bakes something similar with marmalade stuffing, but if she put in ground beef, mushrooms and onions...spices...that could come out pretty tasty.

The picture shows something that looks more like baked rolls, not pierogi. What was the stuffing made of? Meat, cheese, anything also? My mom used to bake similar looking rolls with cheese.

What can I tell you people...here is a recipe for a happy couple and a long lasting relationship: a man should be only a little bit better looking than devil and a woman should be a little bit uglier than an angel. And, voila! No problems!

Arabic men can be charmers. I've met a couple during my college years, but to consider them a potential husband based on the sweet bs? The girls gotta a have a very low self esteem or simply look for adventure. Nothing wrong with adventure as long as nobody gets hurt.

Some Egyptians/Arabic can be quite good looking too, but the specific smell of their skin is a turn off (for me). It might be the spices they use? Perhaps the smell of garlicky polish sausage on the blond's breath would stop the Egyptians' short in their declaration of love! :)

I also tried to watch ipla and got the message that it is not available in my country (USA).

However, there is a great website where you can watch all movies, polish and foreign, news in polish, documentaries, anything you want - new and old. I share the subscription with six other friends, so it came to 20+ dollars for six months. You can't beat the deal.

I just finished watching 'Szpilki na Giewoncie', what a fun series! Loved it. I highly recommend it.

I am not sure what you're trying to say. 'No presence here", where? in China (since you currently live there), on PF? True, not too many polish posters from Poland. Where do the rich Poles who send kids to play Chopin live? Chicago? Warsaw? Shanghai? London? I'm sure there are a few.

I hope you don't just believe in everything you read here (PF), they are simply opinions of a few individuals, whether they are good or bad, based on their experiences, or what they read in a shady paper or website. Is (was) there an issue with Poles in UK or USA? Sure. But is a mainstream problem? Nope. Few incidents here and there.

You see, my niece gets a private visit now and than, but it leads to more private visits and it gets expensive at some point. I wish the system work a little better. My sister-in-law's sister lives in Szczecin and they were pretty snowed in during last few days. I hope you cleaned up you sidewalk well aphro!.It sounds like you are coping well with with winter in Poland. After all, it's gotta be a breeze after Toronto! It's pretty nice in Chicago so far. Some snow..rain and about 50F tomorrow, 30's next week. Nothing to fret about.

To ponoć prawda. Lekarze w Polsce nie sa tacy jak byli niegdys. Moja rodzina czeka miesiacami na specjaliste. Najlepiej nie chorowac, komu tam potrzebne te wstretne pastylki. Eeek.

That's just like here! They get paid $35.00 per patient a year whether they see them or not! lol. Can you imagine? The HMO doctor have hundreds of patients signed up to his/her name. They don't have to do anything and still collect a hefty salary. And, if they get to see a patient, they have only 10-15 minutes for them! It is up to you to take advantage of the precious minutes and get what you want i.e. your annual tests. I know, I use HMO.

Not only Norway (but I'm sure you know that already). Sadly, Poland needs to fix the way they pay their workers. It would put the emigration to a halt - immediately. As long as it pays more to be a house cleaner/housekeeper for more money in the West than doing it at home...or to be an accountant, a teacher, a nurse - why not? The capitalistic drive for goods and better life justifies the means to get it.
