So, they commenced practical preparations - e.g., he regularly took out large sums from the secret police operational fund and transfered it to his lover`s account. At the same time, he was providing valuable intelligence info to CIA contacts in Poland. It happened first in 1959 and continued till 1961 when he and his lover checked at the American Embassy in West Berlin, carrying a large sum of money he had received at his Warsaw office that day. . Due to the importance of his knowledge about Polish and Soviet intelligence, he was welcomed by Americans with open arms.

Goleniewski was neither a patriot nor a hero. He was a disappointed secret police functionary who had served his Soviet masters loyally for many years but decided to betray them for Western luxury.
