News / Goodbye Sunday Shopping in Poland - Hello Electoral Reform [246]

Oh I'm sure they are.

One way round that's been suggested is to buy online, possibly using Argos-type terminals and the store being legally a collection point!

now the sunday inspectors are striking.

Are they demanding Sundays off? :-)

Life / Solar energy in Poland [22]

Also, do inhabitants of Poland prefer solar energy as an alternative from fossil energy?

Unfortunately there are bureaucrtic estrictions concerning energy sources, and believe it or not there aren't even smart meters. The coal lobby is powerful in PL.

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [676]

If by homogeneous you mean no or very little admixture of non-Europeans. Well, it is a good thing.

Neither good nor bad.

their own countries with a native population,

Almost every country, including Poland, has a native population. The world is however getting smaller, and no matter how much you squeal, people will emigrate. Like you did.

Like I don't care much for any of commie offspring.

Don't care much for yourself in that case, being from a Party background...

Travel / Why do you visit Poland? [223]

he most important museum to see is Shindler's factory.

The Emalia factory is worth a visit. No need to use any paid-for service to go there though; it's easy to get to and the Tourist Information Centre are happy to advise.

Travel / Pot in Poland for tourists [285]

Jon hes talking about the telegram/telegrass app, not an actual telegram.

Really? Gosh, you're quick on the uptake...

there are certain streets and certain bloki where runners/dealers do hang out

This got far rarer some time ago.

Amphetamines are extremely popular in pl. Polish speed is even exported

Far less so than a few years ago.

Telegram

Is it possible to send a telegram in these days of email and texting? Even fax machines are old hat nowadays, never mind telex and telegrams.

Australia / Polish pierogi in Australia [11]

Or do you always use egg?

I always use egg - it helps. It depends how you like the dough - I prefer it fairly thin and glossy. The type of flour you use makes a difference too.

Travel / Need some info on my trip to Poland to buy some clothes? [11]

Sometimes they're relatively more expensive here.

This can be true. I don't think there will be any real difference between the shops in a mall in Warsaw and those in a mall in Vilnius.

Berlin is good for clothes shopping - often a bit cheaper than Poland and a good selection of shops.

News / Coal-Powered Poland Refuses to "Go Green". EU Ain't Happy. [304]

shale fracking

The problem is the depths of the various reservoirs. When they're deep, there's not so many problems. When it's near the surface we see the problems that you describe.

Hopefully soon the Nuclear Energy stigma will soon vanish in Poland

There are plans (and have been for a while) as well as Uranium deposits however nuclear gets a bad press and everyone over a certain age remembers Chernobyl down the road. The country held its collective breath until the wind changed and Belarus got the fallout.

it is cancerous

And an unpleasant and dangerous job mining it. A thing of the past.

the environment

Sustainable energy is essential if we're to slow down the damage to the planet - the investment is worth it now, since the impact of climate change in the future is going to be at a level socially, economically and politically that's hard to contemplate now.

vocations in life

A vocation in life is important. Hopefully a better vocation than this guy who's been posting weird stuff throughout this thread about a school.

Study / British School of Warsaw in Wilanow [73]

This sort of post is always suspicious. The British School in Warsaw is a respectable institution, run by Nord Anglia, a long-established chain of fee paying independent schools. It's properly (and thoroughly) inspected, and can recruit good teachers from Britain with UK Qualified Teacher Status.

Interesting that our 'guest poster' assumes that I work as a. a schoolteacher and b. in Eastern Europe. Neither are true.

If the forum is so moribund why are you here??

When a 'guest poster' appears here solely to slag off or promote an organisation or business, do we really need to ask why?

History / POLISH AND RUSSIAN FRIENDSHIP WILL LAST FOREVER [513]

Jewish...Jewish...Jewish....Jewish....Jewish

That one post undermined anything else you could ever say.

What country are you from? Isn't it Australia?

My point is that it's really easy to accuse other countries of propaganda, or Jews of pretty much everything.

Yes, and some do so with relish, sadly.

Nope, Poland is not the country of haters.

And Wulky pretends there are no haters in PL, despite enthusiastically agreeing with any post written by a hater there...

Genealogy / What does my Polish name mean? [402]

It's a Ukrainian name similar to the Lemko name Lytush. Lemkos straddle the current border between Poland and Ukraine, and there are Lemkos in both countries.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

"Thou shall not kill" might be a tuff one to explain.

Especially for those who promote judicial murder...

for an Unbeliever all of that is inconvenient too.

If it turns out that Mohammed was right, very inconvenient indeed.

justifiable

Neither justifiable nor unjustifiable. That's just the way it is.

twenty years in prison

Never going to happen in Poland, and wouldn't stop a woman driving a hundred miles to do it in Germany.

And there's not a thing you can do to stop any woman from terminating her pregnancy.

No matter how oppressive the judicial framework is around this, it still happens regardless.

we dont want the knobs who would come over to continue their wire scams,

Hard to know what 'wire scams' you mean, or how that's related to a woman's inalienable right to choose what she does with her body.

and pregnant women would benefit from proper support and counselling

The danger is that anti-abortionists would wat to interfere in this. Or weirdos, like the poster above.

Well I hope we don't lose too many brilliant scientists or great gay comedians.

We can never know. The person whose daughter or son might one day have developed a cure for cancer could have drowned trying to get to Europe from a war-torn region of the world..

her body, her choice.

Indeed it is.
