Evidently you're looking in a mirror. The Polish women who turned out on Friday to make their views on the proposed legislation clear are not doing this as an act of frivolity, are not "paid to attend" are not manipulated and are not, as Ironside dissmissively called them "commies".

They are for the most part intelligent and well-educated people who have the same duties towards society as other people in Europe and entirely appropriately expect the same rights over their bodies.

However much you can't handle that.

Fortunately there is a huge strength of feeling against the appalling and cruel proposal.

Europe (and especially Poland) have changed a lot since you abandoned the country 26 years ago. Nevertheless, as the very profound and moving Polish women's Czarny Piątek has shown, people do still come out on the streets to assert their rights, and just as in the days of Solidarity, the regime eventually loses.

Quite. Nor any idea of the strain on a family and the (sad but true) financial cost to society of total care, something that far exceeds 1500 pln.

I suspect that a certain amount of this is driven by ideologues who are detached from the reality of the situation some people are in.

Did you see the reports of the Bishop of Ełk's comments last week? He actually said that a woman who has ben raped and takes a morning after pill is committing a greater crime than the rapist. No wonder religious observance is plummeting in Poland. Most people are too intelligent and too decent to want to listen to stuff like that.

That's not much of a response; not even on a par with the tacky internet memes produced by people who on the one hand oppose a woman having a severely and profoundly disabled foetus flushed out yet on the other hand aren't prepared to lift a finger themselves to try to make the person's short and miserable life less distressing if they are actually born.

Very much so; and it's worth remembering that the foetuses in question are not necessarily those of people with Down's Syndrome. They are of people who only a few years ago would not survive more than a few days or weeks and are often so profoundly disabled that if they are aware they exist at all, their short lives are wretched and full of suffering. there is no compassionate reason to carry such a foetus to term and every reason not to.

I didn't insinuate that thousands of women were paid to attend.

There's so much unintended irony in that post that you must have bought it wholesale at Makro.

The salient issue in all of this is that the tens of thousands of ordinary women (the ones you insinuated might be 'paid' by a mysterious third party that nobody's seen or heard of; maybe the Invisible Woman) went out on the streets and got worldwide publicity. They, like the majority of Polish women (hared data confirms this) are unhappy with the current attack on their basic human rights.

I suppose you've looked in to my education background have you?

Keep supposing, you've posted plenty of clues, and your writing style would not behove anyone considering the Cambridge Tripos.

No need to, since it's a simple statement of fact.

I suspect that since you are neither a resident of Warsaw or particularly educated, this is an abstract issue for you. For the Polish women who came out in their tens of thousand to express their very strong feelings it is not abstract; it is something that affects their lives directly.

You tell wrong. Polish women can be very direct sometimes; and this is one issue about which there is genuine strength of feeling.

Remember you abandoned Poland a long time ago; you would be doubtless surprised that things aren'y the same as 30 years back.

Why would anyone need to do that, especially since there's no credible suggestion that anything of the sort took place.

It was an impressive show of opinion, huge crowds and a genuine grassroots happening.

History / Polish military uniforms - collar markings [74]

A better image would help, especially if it was in colour. The three stars on the collar is similar to a gorget-patch worn by a sergeant in the Austro-Hungarian army, however different armies use/used different insignia and this has not always been consistent.

I notice Cyrillic writing under the photo. Three stars in the Tsarist army were (during various periods) worn as shoulder decorations by Lieutenant-Colonels (he looks too young for this and it isn't a shoulder decoration) and in a different form (again during various periods) by Senior NCO (he also looks a bit young for that however it is more likely). Wearing them on the collar however may be a different matter and the uniform suggests Austro-Hungary. For further details, you'd need an expert on historic uniforms during that time and in the region.

Do you know what part of Poland he lived in, and when that photo was taken?

No, I-S, it is very real. Polish women came out in every city in Poland on Friday, for a strong yet peaceful protest.

Or any connection to women - I think they are all single guys

The rest of Europe must be uncivilized then because gun crime

Gun crime is lower in Europe; one reason there's no call in Poland (or elsewhere) for looser gun ownership.

The million people who came out in Washington today, and the crowds elsewhere show that people over there are beginning to see sense too.

Indeed. Guns however are rightfully restricted in civilised countries like Poland.

Good to see the thousands that turned out today over there.

And to stick closer to the topic, there is no serious suggestion of allowing this silly situation in PL. At least when Americans kill each other they keep their behaviour to themselves.

I think that some of the losers who say things like the sentence you just quoted really believe it was true.

The thousands of ordinary women who took part in the Czarny Protest are up against that (and are used to dealing with such attitudes). Now they're marching because of state sponsored aggression against them.

The waffen-SS hasn't existed for decades. It isn't the useful idiots that make the trouble; they just silently sit by while it happens. It's these inbreds that do the organising and the shouting.

Such a contrast with the Polish Czarny Protest, which really is a grassroots thing.

They're no longer that newsworthy outside the country they happen in.

people are being shot every day in countries that have strictest gun laws on the planet.

It is indeed. On today's well-attended Polish women's Czarny Protest, there's enough coverage by established sources; it seems pointless to watch amateur stuff on a home video site.
