The more I read about Stefan Wilmont, the more unsavoury he seems. Only young, yet did 4 bank robberies among other things. Fresh out of prison. I wonder if he was influenced by some of the invective from certain quarters against Mayor Adamowicz. The scum from 'Mlodzież Wszechpolska even published a fake death notice (Akt Zionism) for the mayor when he made a decision that triggered their emotions. The case against them was frozen by the prosecutor only a few days ago.

Perhaps he was on the left then; feel free to speculate without evidence (which you do anyway). He certainly named a political party during his attack, one that is centre-right. And of course his choice of victim, a much loved and very popular politician.

This is true. We don't however know his mental state at the moment; doubtless there will be a full assessment before any trial.

He seemed to have a grudge against the centre right Platforma Obywstelstwa. I'm sure his personal history will be examined and any sort of political influence that can be proven will be proven.

Gregy, people who have schizophrenia are not always (or usually) gibbering wrecks incapable of making rational choices. One of my oldest friends recently got a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia for which he's receiving treatment. He works as a senior Quantity Surveyor and has a very full life.

Evidently you think 'a paranoid schizophrenic' doesn't choose a life of Quantity Surveying' since you think his 'way of life is determined by his illness'.

Treating (and living with) schizophrenia, Gregy, isn't an exact science. Many people, whether career criminals or completely law-abiding or (like most of us) somewhere in between have had schizophrenic symptoms at various points in their lives, have been treated with various medications and therapies at different times and with varying ddgrees of success, have had episodes with varying degrees of severity and have lives impacted to deifferent degrees and in different ways by the illness.

That's something for the courts and relevant professionals to decide. He was certainly fit enough to stand trial before. If there is any doubt, the 'biegły' psychologist interviews and reports to the court on the accused and/or witnesses/the accuser. They don't always get it right (they are paid by the court and nearly always make a decision unhelpful to the defence) however it does happen. The prison service to in Poland looks after the mental health of inmates where appropriate. All prisons have a hospital wing.


Doesn't it just. WOŚP is Poland's most successful and best-loved independent charity, who make a huge difference to a lot of people's lives. Just as Mayor Adamowicz did.

It's fine to post with a political agenda, however some of the comments here are crass attempts at avoiding the cold hard fact that the only cases of domestic terrorism in Poland have been from right-wingers rather than the groups they love to whinge about. Perhaps those posters should wait a day or two before making silly excuses. We have one small thing to be thankful for; at least none of them have claimed it's a 'false flag' attack yet.

You're still trying to relativise this. A much loved Mayor of Gdansk being killed by a disturbed individual is a tragedy and a political assassination.

And yes, it's murder unless the killer is able to prove otherwise.


It works a little differently in Poland, in theory and even more in practice. We also don't know much about the circumstances of his family, what sort of people they are, or whether or not the political assassin had had prior treatment.

There isn't much of a question. Mayors do not generally have much in the way of security, and normal event security is not infallible, especially security at a charity concert in the face of a very determined and violent thug with the element of surprise in their favour.
