I meant something personal.

No, only that, plus possibly homophobia. He got a fine of a few thousand PLN; he paid it back in instalments.

I doubt his case is unique. A shame; it caused him problems, and he was a thoroughly good person.

Interesting what people from the various Slavic countries think about each other. George Mikes wrote about Poles (he was here in the 30s) however he of course was Hungarian.

You sound

Sadly, your posts are not merely low-quality, but also off-topic.

News / Poles say a big YES to our European Union [996]

There you go again; and it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to the high level of support within Poland for the EU...

Yet another PO nutter sucking up to anybody who 'hates PiS'

Or just someone, who like many, dislike and distrust the current regime.

Since they are both adored by PO at the moment

Hardly 'adored'; just people standing up to PiS and their deplorable antics.

but a residue is not possession so in my opinion it's not within the law

Unfortunately the opinion of the judge was what counted here.

And I can see that happening only if someone had a problem with that indiidual

He was Ukrainian; I don't know if that counted against him.

understand that Poles rapidly

The stats don't bear that out. However much you would like them to.

Do you say it must be pro-EU?

No, however the vast majority of Poles certainly are.

I would expect to read about something so silly in the papers

Silly and often unjust prosecutions happen daily; they rarely make the news, especially if they're within the law.

Possession is

That's what they're trying to prove. It happened to someone I know in Warsaw. Stopped and searched at night in the city centre, prosecuted and fined for a minute trace of unburnt THC in the residue.

Giertych

A vile right-winger, however he does seem to be maturing now into a more acceptable political stance. Rejecting the discredited PiS counts in his favour.

Don't be ashamed of your Jewishness.

Don't be silly, there's a place under a bridge in Norway that's missing you...

All he ever does is create chaos

It's basically from a certain playbook. Right now, he's almost certainly thinking about his legacy and posthumous image, while successors jostle for attention and power; we can expect some very unpredictable times ahead.

In Michigan you are allowed to have 2.5 ounces on you for personal use.

In Poland, the police will send a pipe off for analysis to try and find a few micrograms of residue. One reason it's really not worth taking the risk of carrying any in public.

a very common trait

And the habit of some people in Poland, mostly the less well educated, to suggest that someone who disagrees with their point of view is Jewish.

I once had a neighbour blame the parking problems in the street on "the Jews", despite the street being a modern one...

defensiveness

Hugely, together with a tendency, almost a compulsion to argue that black is white and white is black.

Not everyone here is the same however; any positive or negative trait observed in some people isn't universal here.

UK, Ireland / Any Polish Muslims in London? [30]

Muslim forum,

This isn't a forum specific to any one religion, is it now...

Nor is the OP enquiring about any other religions....

propaganda?

Nothing propagated there...

offensive that is to followers of other religions

You can easily say that most religions contain something that might offend the type of person who enjoys being offended.

islam being the inborn religion of every human being

For Muslims it is; others may choose their own paradigm.

Mormons scour historical records (including in Poland) and baptise the dead; some may be offended, some may support it, most don't ever think about it.

known to happen?

No, I've never seen this at a railway station, and I use international trains for work and personal reasons (or did before Covid) very often. They'd either need to have a lot of dogs or get the arriving passengers (some of whom have tight connections to other trains) to go through a bottleneck which would take a while, given the size of some of the trains and number of passengers.

It would be more effective to have the dogs actually on the trains after the border, however I've not seen that either.

At airport customs after Netherlands flights, occasionally yes.

Life / The climate for gardening in Poland [340]

Obi ...... Most likely of worse quality than at a gardener's

Obi are actually OK for plants, as is Auchan. The best one though for plant quality in Warsaw is the big garden centre in Tarchomin.

I was speaking to a friend the other day; she's grown an avocado tree from scratch; they can't easily grow commercially here due to the climate, however in the right position it's possible to have a decent sized tree.

Surprisingly Kiwi fruit grow very well in Poland. They're vines rather than trees and do well in this climate.
