Travel / Mystical places in Poland [18]

'magnetic spots' where things, cars etc seem to roll uphill

That is usually an optical illusion; there are a couple of places in Poland where it happens.

Travel / Mystical places in Poland [18]

Are there other similar places, considered special?

Yes, however the Wawel one is special.

There are many mystical places. Drohiczyn, Mężenin and Grabarka are among them. Jasna Góra and Swięta Lipka are centres of pilgrimage.

Komorów outside Warsaw is also interesting to some.

"sexually suggestive drag queens"

Very few are "sexually suggestive", and in any case, in pantomime, that's designed to go mostly over the heads of the kids.

Drag is entertainment for adults not children.

You should see a kids' pantomime in the UK!

A drag act every Christmas for 250 years.

History / Poland must get back Lwow, Wilno and Brest back [345]

It does now. And has done on and off for a long time.

Ukrainians need to be Polanified.

Let Ukraine be Ukraine!

circumcised by the Russian Orthodox Church. If you interested in learning more of this issue, look at the circumcision article on the pornographic website Wikipedia.

Obviously key to the question!

Food / Origin of the pierogi [127]

I bought some chili con carne pierogi from somewhere in Kraków a while ago, they were excellent!

I like that kind. Also Pierogi Lwowskie, a 1930s recipe where the pierogi are filled with a dry-ish Bolognese sauce.

Yes, one can stuff pierogis with ingredients from all over the world. Is tradition undermined in any way?

Traditionally, there has always been creativity in pierogi fillings. There are many possibilities, and new ideas all the time.

bastardizing a Polish grandma's recipes.

Poland (or Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, or anywhere else that has pierogi in their national cuisines) are not skansens, frozen in the past and incapable of creativity or development.

Off-Topic / Buying a Russian jeep driving to Ireland [6]

posting at all hours in the middle of the nigh

Remember, some of us work at night. It's always night and always day somewhere in the world, and post-Covid, people work online with people in different time zones..

Not that your post helps the OP at all.

As I said, check the requirements for France, especially if driving when it's dark, and check (there are a few websites about this) what equipment you need to carry in given countries; certain countries require a warning triangle to be carried. It goes without saying that there needs to be the correct insurance, and it would also be a good idea to carry a document proving ownership of the vehicle, just in case it's stopped.

Plenty of people drive across Europe every day without checking each country's rules, however there's always the danger of being stopped by police, especially if the vehicle is a. Russian plated and b. unusual. It'[s good to be belt and braces careful.

Also, check the situation about crossing the border into Schengen; this can change fairly suddenly right now.

What problems will we encounter.

The engine (and passengers) will get very wet unless you use a ferry for part of that journey.

Otherwise you should be fine providing you have appropriate insurance for the journey. Check the rules for driving in France regarding headlights (you may need to use masking tape if they aren't adjustable) as well as requirements for carrying warning triangles etc.

You'll also need to check the current border status re. Covid (OK now within Schengen, subject to change coming in/out of Schengen), and you may wish to avoid Belarus.

News / Poles march against Mandatory poisoning by vaccines [202]

Can such staff demand legal compensation for damages? Who/what from?

There'd need to be a test case to establish whether that is appropriate under the Human Rights Act or not.

Injury and illness resulting from presence at or duties at a workplace are certainly grounds for compensation under most circumstances.

The parents of unvaccinated kid or kindergarten`s supervising body?

Presumably the employer who has a legal duty of care to all staff.

I think it is fair.

Me too.

There's also a legal issue that hasn't surfaced yet in Poland or elsewhere in the EU but probably will sooner or later. That's the human rights of people with certain disabilities and illnesses that cause them to be immunocompromised. Including kindergarten Teachers and other staff who may come into contact with an unvaccinated kid and be harmed by this if the kid infects them with a serious illness..

Disability rights are enshrined in European law and there is no shortage of disability activists; in the age of masks and quarantines we can expect them to be assertive.

Food / Alcohol Delivery app in Poland [14]

people bypass that regulation somehow but I don`t know exactly how.

Sell the bony. Unless they've started putting names on them, in which case a friendly/greedy shopkeeper can oblige.

I used to buy them outside one of the bary mleczne in Poznań a few years ago. I wanted food, the guys selling them wanted food/alcohol.

The West may need to realize that the first vaccines will be of Chinese and Russian origin.

Perhaps. Though the Oxford A-Z vaccine is making particularly good progress, and the Americans are working on an RNA vaccine. Despite Russian attempts to steal the clinical data by hacking.

I'd rather shoot myself than take a chinese vaccine

Not that you're typing on a computer full of Chinese parts or anything ike that....

it seems some also reject covid vaccinations.

Not as many as in Russia, where it's up to half the population.

Anti-vaxxers may well find that they have to put up or shut up.

Fortunately vaccination in Poland is commonplace.

Fortunately EU membership (and the council of Europe) means they can't get away with that so easily now.

The gay issue is a distraction

It's a symptom of the sheer nuttiness of PiS.

the tarcze... a shameful failure and about what you'd expect from that band of bunglers

Basically, however their core voters are blind to their actual Incompetence and venality.

wHAT DO YOU THINK OF

About as credible as all his other conspiracies.

It's also probably far from a coincidence that a. he was old, ill and paranoid at the time and b. he accused carers of trying to harm him. Not unusual among the elderly, especially ones as ill as him.

Farmers, tradesmen, and other non trained economic decision makers should not be in charge of economic policy.

Quite. We entrust them with our taxes, our well-being and out futures; as a minimum we expect them to appoint advisors who excel at economic policymaking, and we expect them to listen to those experts and use all the resources and power we have entrusted them with during their term of office to implement the strongest economic policy.

And we should not be afraid to hold them to account if/when they do not excel.
