Travel / Pot in Poland for tourists [285]

That's one of the very best things about e. Better to take at home with someone than in a loud nightclub.

Well I personally don't like amphetamines or uppers in general

Same, except for beak (though not here in PL). The Billy on sale here is a mixed bag; perhaps they export the decent stuff, as you say.

And with good MDMA/MDA/etc. you peak pretty quickly

Sadly not on the ones in Poland which are at best a bit speedy and sometimes 'smacky e's'; one reason among several that I've avoided them for the past decade or so. The glory days of love doves etc are well past anyway; it seemed to deteriorate generally from the early/mid nineties. Under 40s don't know what they've missed.

they smoke it in tiny amounts at a time through this crack pipe looking thing

This is true. Most people here can't skin up at all, even if they smoke regularly.

Polish amphetamine is arguably the best in the world.

This isn't. It's usually quite low quality on the market here.

A lot of the times though it's not real mdma/mda/mdae/mde/etc.

This, however, is. They don't make you peak.

Them and Reggae gigs.

A friend has reggae gigs now in their venue up north. They were worried at first however most of the people who go are 60+.

Rastas who caused trouble and took drugs....

If it's ganja, they're too chilled to cause hassle.

Travel / Biking in Silesia, Poland [3]

-Anything I need to know?

Yes. Plan your route carefully using as many cycle paths as possible. The low driving standards here haven't improved however the number of cars has increased hugely.

-What is the quality of bike shops, and (if possible) a rounded price quote.

I'm not sure of the quality, however most big towns and some smaller ones have specialist bike shops. There's probably a Polish-language forum for cyclists that lists the good ones, given how popular cycling is here. For spares/supplies, most shopping mall sports shops will stock at least the basics.

-Are bike thefts still common? If so, are there good, safe places to store a bike

Yes and yes-ish. The bike racks outside shopping malls are relatively safe, and have cameras/guards nearby. Nevertheless, thefts do happen. Bring/buy a good bike lock.

'Dance me to the end of love'

A nice tune, and yes, maybe his best.

I remember that a few years ago one of his other ones, 'My Secret Life', was very popular here, mostly among people who didn't understand the lyrics and how gloomy they are.

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

Currently, he has had his main rivals to presidency arrested and regularly cuts off Internet and phones to stop people from mass gathering in streets

PiS probably envy his ability to do that.

It's a problem, however, that they're wise to be careful about for several reasons. Not only are trade links important, but from their side they can't easily be seen to either align with the democracy protestors or the regime.

Real Estate / Are the property prices in Poland too high? [19]

Are the property prices in Poland too high?

They are falling fast right now.

Partly I don't think they're thinking that far ahead

I'm sure they're not. They've been lucky so far however don't seem to have much long-term economic strategy.

However, sooner or later such guys are caught. One courier/delivery guy is enough to track down the whole group

That's exactly how a few of the more established 'businesspeople' have been caught over the years. That and by being grassed up to police by associates.

History / Roman Dmowski-Patriot, Nationalist, Anti-Semite? [252]

they might be enacted in some few universities for a year but that about it.

That is more than enough.

By today standards and sensitives. As I said don't apply them to something from almost 100 years ago.

I doubt being a victim of segregation was a barrel of laughs then either.

There is a difference between state run and enforced "segregation" and private

Not if you're being segregated against.

and private (is that picture from a private event?)

It's the beach at Puszczykowo (and 'private events' are not immune from public oversight).

History / What do Poles owe to Jews? [593]

biased against carp already in your native countries

Not so much biased against carp, more used to a much richer variety of (generally better prepared and fresher) fish from the sea.

neither Americans nor British consider carp as valuable fish.

Very valuable indeed if they're koi carp in an ornamental pond. Otherwise, yuk, especially when the sluggish bottom-feeders are preserved in jelly.

mud, mud and more mud.

Carp is very overrated. I've eaten plenty here out of politeness and don't recall ever enjoying it.

Other types of fish on sale are better, most from the sea rather than rivers. Śledzie po żydowsku is (to my island taste anyway), much better than the carp equivalent.

Gefiltefisch, can be made with fish like mintaj and is better for that.

Life / Swedish expats in Poland? [3]

So I wonder are there Swedish people living in Trojmiasto?

Yes.

Are there people of mixed Swedish / Polish descent?

Mostly expat (including plenty of students), however there are certainly some people who are part Swedish, part Polish.

History / "Poland Syndrome" should be renamed [45]

Not many ten foot (or any other) barges here either.

Po from the Teletubbies perhaps should think about changing his/her name by deed poll too.

Deed polls as well should perhaps be renamed....

Life / Paying Hospital Bills in Poland [23]

For medicine at the pharmacy, the amount that's refundable does vary; other people here could probably say more about that than me.

People do use private doctors here, more than in, say, the UK, however if I need to go I pay 100zl ($25) for a visit and the meds they prescribe rarely exceed that even though I just buy them rather than use the national health service. If it's something serious, people are treated on the basis of need rather than ability to pay.

karma has struck our wrongdoers?

I sometimes wish it did.

Other times I wish it didn't hold some of us to such high standards.

The OP should (and surely will) use his/her own judgement in the matter. The boyfriend may well have Covid related costs/misfortunes, They aren't however 'hospital bills' or 'medical bills', something normal for Americans, not so normal in Europe.

Polar bears too.

And telegraph poles.

Don't forget the police either; they are named after a Polish town.

Food / Poland Spirytus recipes [39]

and how much would be needed to filter it down to about 35-40%

An alcometer (a few zl online, looks like the ones used for measuring specific gravity for wine/beer but with a different scale for higher levels of alcohol - don't bother with the expensive electroinic kind) and some simple maths. The maths is findable online.

Or just do it by taste.

a litre of water to half a litre Spirytus?

Less than that.
