How can I convert Zloty to Indian rupee / transfer money from Poland to India?

Hi,

I want to understand if there is a cheaper way to convert Polish Zloty to Indian Rupee?

I know i can convert it to Euro and then to Indian Rupee, but that would involve double conversion rates. Is there any other way?

Or if some one can guide me a money exchange place in Warsaw that offers better rates?

Thanks,
Raunak

I think that the best option will be to convert PLN to USD in some Kantor or online through walutomat.pl and then change USD to INR in India. Other available options are much more expensive. You could get debit card with free money withdrawal around the world and good exchange rate PLN to INR. Some cards exchange first to EUR or USD and then to other currency and some do it directly. Other more expensive options are:

moneygram.com
skrill.com
or paypal.com
Changing PLN to Indian banknotes in Poland probably is the most expensive option.

It is illegal for a non-Indian person to bring or take Rupee's from India.
Do not even try it. If you get caught it can cause a big problem with your visa.

If you can change it to USD or GBP. I would use GBP as it has a better chance to haggle price in India.
At the airport change a small amount. £40 as that would be around 3,800Rupee's. That will last you till you get to a local back or exchange place.

It is illegal for a non-Indian person to bring or take Rupee's from India.

Not when the person has a OCI (overseas citizen of india) or a PIO(person of indian origian) card.

Here you can see live exchange rates in some Kantory:
kantory.pl/kursy
quantor.pl

kantor.aliorbank.pl/info/subtab/oplaty-i-prowizje?language=en
Here 1st withdrawal abroad is free.
You can also open EUR/USD account in Poland with Debit Card to be sure that there will be only one exchange to INR.

Currently T-mobile account is recommended too. It's completely free and withdrawals abroad from debit card are free too.
t-mobilebankowe.pl/konto

It's harder to compare exchange rates in Debit Cards of various banks. I haven't seen any comparison.

That's the best solution really.

conti kantor.pl

What a co-incidence: that's the same one I use!

An Indian person may only carry 5,000Ruppe's in and out of India. £55. Any more you can be fined or refused entry.

rbi.org.in/scripts/FAQView.aspx?Id=11
Look at rule 18. This rule mainly applies to Indian people only.

If you are doing it online, then Poland transfer would be the best option. They charge 0.5% of your transaction, but they provide the best exchange rate in the market than any banks.

Merged: Has someone used Poland transfer for transferring money to other countries?

Hi,

Has anyone use Poland transfer? I am considering to use it to transfer money from Poland to India. Is it safe to use it?

Any inputs will be really helpful.

Or if someone could guide me on other money transferring mediums that are cheaper. Like not more than 0.5%

Has anyone use transfer wire?

No, but I use one of their competitors, WorldFirst and so far am happy with them. They're a reputable company, as are Transfer Wise.

I think you might mean Transfer Wise?

I'm sure he does and transfer wire didn't bring anything up on google, however the OP should check carefully, just in case.

Thanks Guys!!!

I see they charge only 5$ as a fee.

Since you have used it before, is there a way we can negotiate on rates with them?

No. They're a large company. They give you a quote based on the spot rate at the time and you either accept it or don't.

The best way to tranfer Zlotys to EUR or viceversa is with the website Transfer wise,

it's so easy to use and you have the real currency exchange, they charge you a very low commission,

in addition if you register with my link you have no comission the first time, transfer.

Cheers!

My son is studying in Warsaw. We are from India. Since we did not have option of sending polish currency from here, I deposited Euros in his forex card. Now for every transaction he has cross currency conversion charges and ATM withdrawal expenses too . He has opened a Polish account there. Can anyone can help me with a solution to avoid ATM withdrawal charges and currency conversion charges on card transactions

a solution to avoid ATM withdrawal charges and currency conversion charges on card transactions

Tell him to open an account in euro (pretty much every bank offers those), then use Transfer to send money to that account. He can use a virtual exchange office (I like Alior Kantor) to convert euro to zloty and then spend zloty or take zloty out of an ATM.

There is no point of exhcanging PLN to EUR and then to INR. Better use money transfer provider such as TransferWise, Transfergo etc. They offer great exchange rate and you don't loose your money. I always compare the services on Monito (it's money transfer comparison engine).
