Is Poland a poor country?

Poland is rich spiritually. But, needs more money.

Of course not, Poland is not a poor country, by world standards.

Agreed just like Romania and Bulgaria were more than 50% below the average.
But on EU scale they are poor.

just like Romania and Bulgaria

Romania and Bulgaria are poorer. Their HDI is not very high (just 'high'), and a Pole, on average, earns twice as much as a Romanian/Bulgarian.

But on EU scale they are poor.

What is poor? Ever been to Poland, Milky? When you drive a BMW in the alleyway of your own house, you're not really poor, are you?

Yes, on average (because it's all about stats), Poles make less money, but life is not as expensive as in some other EU countries, so on the whole, the gap is not that huge.

Are Poland and Romania countries Poland wishes to compare itself with?

What is poor?

lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society.

hen you drive a BMW in the alleyway of your own house, you're not really poor, are you?

Depends on how old the car is and where the house is.

the gap is not that huge.

no , not huge but big.

I'm not the one making the comparison.

One of the keys to a strong economy is learn how to create fake wealth, as long as the rest of the world buys in.

Wall street is the best example I can think.

You create wealth out of nothing but bids, buys and sells.

But there is no economy, it is just fake manipulated numbers, its like magic money shell game. Gambling.

lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society.

Then many people in Poland are not poor.

Depends on how old the car is and where the house is.

The same BMWs and same houses (more or less) as in Ireland I guess.

yea, eurostat are

Thanks for proving my point.

In that case, North Koreans aren't poor if they have a bicycle and get a daily bowl of rice.

i don't think that majority of people in Poland do not live at a standard considered comfortable and normal.

most of families have at least 1 car, tv, computer, plasma tv, they eat breakfast, dinner and supper every day, they don't have to beg for food or money. the difference between Poland and western Europe is that people in the west can afford a better car, change their mobile phone more often, go to pub every day, and they have to work shorter to afford to go abroad for a holioday. but this doesn't make Poland poor. you don't know what poverty is. Poland is richer than most of countries in the world. The EU is just a little bit of the world.

by the way, if you look only at the statistics , countries like: Germany, Sweden, France, United Kingdom, Ireland are poor compared to Luxembourg, Macau or Quatar

If the difference were not significant there would not be millions of Poles living abroad.

They go abroad because they want to be richer. or they were really poor in Poland.Just like Britons moving to Australia. still there are much much more Poles living in Poland than abroad.many people who go to the UK want to save money for example to build or buy a house in Poland - it's much cheaper in Poland. I wouldn't say that it's so much easier and cheaper for British people to buy a house in the UK.

i don't think that

It is rather unstained view. What you need to look at is a ratio between pay and cost of living.

Those were convicts... :)

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita

I would use the GNP instead.

The whole American economy is currently propped up by QE2. Has anyone asked where the $85 Billion a month is coming from ? And now they can't figure out how to stop the tapering because the "experts" know that when it does stop, the whole house of cards will come crashing down.

Oops, meant to say now they can't figure out how to start the tapering.

Poland will most likely never come up to the standards of for example todays Sweden. Thing is, judging by how things are looking, neither will Sweden. So Poland will come closer and catch up, by a growing economy a bit and by others economy falling more.

Last time Sweden created a new job (netto) in the private sector was in the 1960's, and the Swedish people is the most indebted in the world (the greeks can really suck it). The whole economy is artificially fueled via consumtion, which is possible due to credits and the fact that interest rates are tax deductible to absurd levels. House loans are also mortage free, average time to pay off an apartment in Stockholm right now is 145 years. Our PISA results are in absolute freefall, the crucial export is decreasing and where new innovations are supposed to come from with such a crappy school is really troublesome and worrying. There's a reason why young Swedes move to Norway to peel bananas. Welcome to the green side of the grass...

Or I'm wrong and everything is just peachy.

Oh, then that's why there are almost as many Swedes as there are Poles in Norway...

You mean QE 3. I believe this is 3. They haven't said out loud, but out of our bank accounts of savers. Our money is dead money.

I know a few British guys who moved to Australia for work and for better MONEY. not for the weather... why 'd they move so far away for the weather only? there are places in Europe with better weather than in the UK.

why 'd they move so far away for the weather only?

100 % of the Irish people I know who moved there over the last 20 years moved for that reason. I've never met a Pole in Ireland who was there for the weather or to experience another culture. wages 4-6 time higher is the reason I always heard.

Pretty well what I was about to say. If you factor out Monaco, Andorra, Liechtenstein, the Channel Islands/IoM etc and possibly Luxembourg; Poland probably is in the top ten.
