The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans

Poland has to be sure a vastly homogeneous population

If by homogeneous you mean no or very little admixture of non-Europeans. Well, it is a good thing. Not in your biased leftie ideology I image but I don't care much for it. Like I don't care much for any of commie offspring.

Even the way you talk about it using this word - homogeneous - as if there was something wrong with it. Why don't you talk straight and talk about a native European population.

Why is that that in your neo-Marist ideology blacks have Africa, China or Japan can have their own countries with a native population, hell even Israel can get ways with it but any other white country has no right to be white!

Like WTF? Is Europe not the home, a place of origin of the white Europeans? What is wrong with you people that you hate us so much?

Neither good nor bad.

their own countries with a native population,

Almost every country, including Poland, has a native population. The world is however getting smaller, and no matter how much you squeal, people will emigrate. Like you did.

Like I don't care much for any of commie offspring.

Don't care much for yourself in that case, being from a Party background...

Well, Ironside, at least you and I agree on the standard definition of "homogeneous". You admit then that I'm right, that is, in contrast with the racial demographic of numerous other places which we all know:-)

There are though, two schools of thought on this subject. One is that heterogeneity is good for a society in order that it not atrophy. The other is that in fact excess immigration, indeed any foreign admixture whatsoever, is bad for a society, as it weakens the existing gene pool by introducing so much "outsiderness" into that society that it loses her historical identity and becomes nearly unrecognizable to her inhabitants.

If that be the case, then one needn't travel to Poland to find folks out there fighting foreignization tooth and nail. Just take a trip to the American deep South and watch the expressions of the locals when a run-of-the-mill bi-racial couple come a-saunterin' into the town pub. It ain't pretty, I can tell y'all that much!

Neither good nor bad.

Oh don't give me that, you think it is a bad thing. Don't play a sly fox here.

how much you squeal, people will emigrate. Like you did.

Tsk tsk moving goalposts again, red herring and so on, go and argue with your refection in the mirror.

being from a Party background...

Please explain whatever do you mean.

You admit then that I'm right, that is, in contrast with the racial demographic of numerous other places which we all know:-)

Lzyko, it is no exactly a secret... I only object to you finding this abnormal. It is perfectly normal and OK.

There are though, two schools of thought on this subject.

Once doesn't exude the other. You're cofounding issues here. You have problem because in Poland is predominantly European. Its sad that people like you are actually taken seriously by anyone.

You mean "conflating" issues, Ironside. You see, it's the wrong image. Rather like confusing Emily Post with Funk & Wagnals:-)
Since when do I have a problem with Europe? My family's European. My grandparents were native German speakers, what are you talking about?
I'm the one who should be sorry for YOU, that there are people here who actually take that sort of stuff seriously!

Polands genetic map

Here's a genetic map of Europe. Is Poland really so homogenous compared to other European countries?
What's wrong with being of mainly European descent?
Europeans vary in terms of ethnicity as well.

Fair enough. However, I've noticed that when I'm in the company of Poles, typically consulary staff, being as I used to teach at the Polish Consulate in Manhattan until we moved, there was a complete homogeneity of facial type, more so than when I've been among equally large groups of German, Austrian or French embassy employees.

As I stated prior, perhaps only the Hungarians are as homogeneous a racial grouping, where I saw no other type when I've been in the company of people from that country.

Eh probably would have been helpful to add photos... Do I look Slavic to you? If so, which region (russia, poland, hungary, Czech, etc)

Thanks!

only the Hungarians are as homogeneous a racial grouping,

You've obviously never been on the ground in Hungary (especially Budapest or the East) which is marked by a large amount of ethnic diversity (genetically if no culturally or linguistically).

One study (can't find reference right now) found that a large proportion of the country is made up of magyarized slavs and germans (and despite what some say there has obviously been some mixing between them and the gypsy population

I totally agree. Similarly to Polish people, I have met Hungarians with really fair hair and complexion as well as people with really dark hair and considerably dark complexion. And all the shades in between.

Ahemm, maf, tell that to President Orban and he'll spit right in your eye, after charging you for the eyewash!

Ethnics minorities such as Banaten-Schwaben, Transylvanians, Romanians, and Szeklers, nonetheless comprise only a slightly larger percentage of the total population of Hungary than do the Sinti-Roma.

Nope, the Hungarians see themselves as an ethnically Uralic island amid a Slavic neighborhood.

That's a national myth that hardly anyone except crazed nationalists take seriously, again walk down the streets of Budapest or Miskolc or Szeged or Pecs for a half an hour or so and try to claim that Hungarians are genetically homogenous. It's pretty homogenous in terms of language (even gypsies use hungarian with each other in public rather than romany) a little less so in culture (it's a lot more stratified than Poland) but genetically it's very, very mixed.

And again according to dna testing hungarians are mostly slavs and germans who've been assimilated to hungarian language and culture

Your half right here. I meant to say that, compared with Paris, London or Berlin, for years Budapest had fewer non-Hungarians living and working in the capital in contrast with post-globalization.

More to the point, when I was in the Hungarian capital, I noticed relatively few if any black, yellow or brown faces anywhere I visited, except only for some US tourists. I found the same in Poland. I didn't find this to be the case in Berlin.

Budapest had fewer non-Hungarians living and working in the capital in contrast with post-globalization.

Budapest was a cosmopolitan multi-cultural place in the 19th century with at least one huge wave of migration (by Czechs lured by factory work, within a generation or two they had lost Czech and become Hungarian in language and outlook.

There's a reason that many Hungarian last names are Slavic demonyms (Horvath = Croat, Lengyel = Pole, Cseh = Czech are the largest though there are others as well). There's also lots of last names that are clearly Magyarized Slavic names.

No argument there! However, all the groups whom you mention are WHITE:-)
And, as Jimmy Durante used to say, there's the rub.

Since neither Poland nor Hungary (afaik) had colonies or slavery, it's not surprising there are mostly white people there.
Life here is often a struggle so we don't attract too many immigrants either.
Should we force people to move here?
Lyzko, there aren't too many Jews here. Why don't you give up your life in the US and move here so that we're more ethnically, diverse?

Are American Jews racially diverse or are they also mosty white?
To sum up, most Polish people are of European origin but that doesn't mean we all look the same. The same applies to Hungarians.

Polish lads out on the lash

Your experience of pl seems to be confined to rural pl only. I have lived in this country for 5 years now and every time I walk down nowy swiat, I see the the difference. The locals stand out, and they stand out for the right reasons, not only female but also male...Besides this idea that only the ladies are somehow completely different from the men is BS.

I can still tell if a family are walking in the street when they are Polish......
This even happened when I was a kid and my Dad spotted it.
It's not 100%,but Poles can spot Poles a mile off!

Not only Poles. Some foreigners can tell if you're Polish, too.
That doesn't change the fact that there are people of different height, hair and eye colour in Poland.

Being Polish yourself, plus you being there and I here, I'd scarcely think so.
Nice try:-)

I know that I am at least 50% Polish because my mother is 100%. My father definitely has origins in Europe, likely of Irish, Austrian, and/or French descent. My mother has olive skin, but I have a more pink tone in my skin, fair like my father. My mom's eyes are brown, but all of my siblings minus two got hazel eyes. My mom has dark brown hair, and is around 5'8'', with a slim build.

Add taut facial features, generally straight as opposed to prominent aquiline noses, lips tending to the thin side, above all, a rather coarse flaxen hair, often fair eye color and a squarish chin.

Height again tends to vary, but on the whole, most Poles (both men and women) tend to be tallish.

What's wrong with being of mainly European descent?

There's nothing wrong with that at all. Yet being an European is, apart from genetic background, also a certain type of mentality and cultural background.

European culture was traditionally based on Greek philosophy, Roman law and Christianity.

Since then many societies in Europe have drifted apart from those roots and in fact become less European
