Hello,

can anyone give me some info about working in Amway in Krk? How much are the bonuses for languages?
Are there any other bonuses?

Please, share some info.

Thank you!

Amway is one company that you want to stay as far away as possible from at all costs. It's basically a giant scam that operates on the thinnest edge of the legal ice. On top of that, the mind-control cult aspects are downright scary.

Why would you want to work for total scum, helping them rip off innocent people?

Thank you. I am looking for opinions. Were you working there?

I have feeling that all companies are very similar, so Amway is worse than the average? Do you have to force peopele into buying something?

I was hearing a lot of negative things, but I am hearing this for all the companies.

Amway works on the principle of a pyramid scheme. You recruit people (for each one you get something) to buy their very expensive products, then those people recruit other people (they get something and you get something) and so on.

Perhaps things have changed, but about thirty years ago some friends who were Amway suckers invited my partner and I to a home demonstration/recruitment party. They showed us Amway's cleaning products, which I must say were very good, then explained their sales structure. I could smell something about it that just didn't add up. After the presentation I started talking to a guy who had been quietly sitting there. He turned out to be the next one up the chain from our friends. When I pointed out the obvious flaws in the stragtegy, he leaned in and said that the way to make money was not by selling their detergents, but by recruiting lots of gullible people to do so and raking off a percentage of their sales. We declined, and later our friends stopped doing it, citing loads of paperwork and tiny rewards.

Agreed. It isn't clear whether or not the OP has been offered a job in their office or been invited to take part in one of their schemes. I would hope that they don't hassle their clerks, receptionists etc to join the schemes, however I wouldn't put it past them.

the mind-control cult aspects are downright scary.

Agreed. I once attended one of their rallies. It reminded me of an American evangelical rally - the same language used, the same presentation techniques, the lot. When someone makes a pitch at you about Amway, they use the same sort of persuasion techniques as the sharpest sales people and worse.

that the way to make money was not by selling their detergents, but by recruiting lots of gullible people to do so and raking off a percentage of their sales

This is true - that's how it works. What Terri says is true as well.

Just about the only plus within the Amway movement doesn't work in Poland but has its uses in America. Remember the Amway suckers do it as self-employed (one of their buzzwords is 'independent business operator'). This means that Joe from New Jersey goes with his wife for a weekend to visit their aunty Mary in Ohio. They stay at a hotel there, eat meals on the way, and give an Amway pitch to aunty Mary's next door neighbour for ten minutes. This means that the entire trip, the hotel, the car hire, the petrol etc is a business expense - in effect a tax loss since the 3 dollars or whatever they make a month from Amway doesn't cover the losses.

In Poland of course, you can't get away with that.

You have to be careful. Amway's reputation is so poor that they use other trading names to draw suckers in - in fact, during the first few pitches they deliberately avoid the name Amway. 'Network 21' is one they use in Poland, others are 'Alticor'. 'Quixtar' and.

A sociologist described them as a "quasi-religious corporation having sectarian characteristics".

Amway is much worse than average It's the absolute bottom of the barrel. You should do your research. There is tons of information on the net about what a bunch of total scumbags they are.

It's basically a sinister cult, linked to right-wing Americans.

A fair assessment.

It's basically a sinister cult, linked to right-wing Americans.

There are apparently a lot of parallels between these MLM businesses and self-declared Christians in the US. I can't find the article now, but it's the similarity in religious language and the fact that many of these "independent business owners" are stay at home women that makes them such easy targets.

This isn't the exact article, but it points to how many of these companies were founded by Christians as they had an easy source of "business owners" - christianitytoday.com/ct/2015/december/divine-rise-of-multilevel-marketing-christians-mlm.html

I think they are operating some accounting centre in Krk. Seriously. In that case this job is totally legal. Amway's "operational" part is another story. But it's a bit like working for the tobacco company. They sell **** but somehow people don't see anything wrong in working for the british american tobacco etc.

Various people connected to Amway have been accused of funding some very controversial causes.

an easy source of "business owners"

Basically networking opportunities. Some large companies have a rule (sometimes unwritten, sometimes more formal) about their staff discussimg MLM during work hours. I've seen this happen, people trying to hassle you constantly with a pitch for Amway or one of its various pseudonims.

I think they are operating some accounting centre in Krk.

I wouldn't put it past them to pressure their staff to get involved in their pyramid schemes.

The American author Douglas Rushkoff has a chapter on pyramid selling schemes in his great book from 2000 "Coercion: Why we listen to what 'they' say"

Very illuminating, typically most participants make nothing or lose money (they often end up inventing 'recruits' and end up with massic stockpiles of merchandise they can't get rid of'.

Part of the point of the book is that different types of sales, cults, pyramid schemes and even CIA interrogation and mass political rallies all follow the same formula which is easy to spot once you recognize it.

Some of it is basically (cack-handed in the case of Amway bots) NLP - usually very transparent. Plus the repeating of buzzwords in the hope that they will sink in.

I once had someone (in Warsaw) try really heavily to suck me in. He was even paying for (expensive) English lessons to do this - he just talked and talked about 'Network 21', cionstantly, and gave me a pile of cassettes to listen to. I think he was both trying to suck me in, and to practice his pitch. He showed me a website where people buy expensive groceries online, with a prioportion of the price going to the people on the 'upline' who've sucked others in - kind of the opposite of the 'trickle down' economy.

After 3 or 4 sessions, I decided not to see him again. He phoned up a month later with a half hearted message about paying for the awful cassettes (he apparently had to pay for them). I ignored him.

The words 'independent business owner' (he must have used that phrase several hundred times to me) still make me shudder

NLP is largely reverse engineering on the formula, which is spelled out pretty clearly in Dale Carnegie's 'How to win friends and influence people'. The thing is that a person can know what's going on intellectually and in a face to face interaction with a skilled practitioner still get suckered. No one's immune, especially those who like to think they are.

This is an old well known pyramid scheme, like Herbalife and other rubbish. Their trend is to lure innocent people, they brain wash you, if you give them a chance. Beware of this get rich quick scheme. If you have worked for them, hide the information in your CV, as it gives you a bad reputation.

Yes. Amway is a scam.

And a creepy cult-like one too,
