Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist?

better person

Michnik and Urban were childhood pals and to this day Michnik prefers the company of people like himself. Michnik had been thre motor force of the post-communist clique that ruled the country under different party logos from 1989 to 2015. Does that make him a "better person"? Who knows?

Mr Michnik

After PiS' triumphant victory at the polls, more and more people realised how tired tehy had become of the same old malarkey GW was peddling, readership dropped and Agora decided to scrap some of its local editions in a cost-cutting effort.

Now Agora plans to stop issuirng its free daily "metrocafe.pl", and as many as 135 people may lose their jobs. Soros' cash injection apparently did not stop the decline and even he is not likely to keep sending good money after bad.

The power of Agora is clearly disintegrating and its flagship GW finds itself deeper and deeper in dire straits.

Maybe he's just a better person than you, putting aside personal grievances so the country could move forward

Quite.

When as Kaczyński ever put personal grievances aside?

You don't need a degree in Psychology to figure out that everything he does is about personal grievances. As opposed to Adam Michnik the jailed dissident and respected newspaper editor, one of today's greatest Poles.

unemployment

Caused by Michnik's mismanagement. In those people's ethnic circles when someone gets a helping hand and still keeps mucking up, he gets called a shmuck and is disowned! To some he may be the greatest living Polish citizen (not Pole !), but a shmuck is a shmuck!

plenty of Poles including myself would cheer at the downfall of Gazeta Wyborcza - the number of people losing jobs as a result is completely irrelevant to me - 1000 brainwashed or cynical people without jobs pfft

Normal nowadays in print media. The trashy right-wing tabloid, the Daily Mail has just laid off around 250 and the much more respectable The Guardian (Gazeta Wyborcza's sister paper under a co-operation scheme) still has a print version due to Aurotrader, a cash cow owned by the same organisation.

Poland's most respected newspaper, run by the highly regarded anti-communist dissident Pole Adam Michnik is in fact in a healthy state in comparison and long may that continue.

It's hard to believe that you're not trolling considering how much nonsense you write but we all know you and your condition. The Guardian is not more respected than any random tabloid these days, it used to be respected I admit but the times changed. There are very few who treat this antisemitic rag seriously, not surprising you are one of them.

respected newspaper editor, one of today's greatest Poles.

No matter how many times you repeat that it will not become the truth, just to let you know.

Well, for those who are justly sceptical at some of the ranting by posters with extreme right wing views against Poland's best known journalist and best known jailed anti-communist dissident, I suggest they look him up online. He really is a remarkable man and deserving of all the praise and accolades.

vulgar and anti-semitic

Never once did I say that Cat Michnik was an a*sehole or use any similar vulgarity. It's a biological fact that he's a bastard in the generic, literal sense of that word. Old man Szechter never had the decency to make an honest woman of Helena Michnik. And identifiying someone according to their ethnic background is not na insult. I never called him a k*ke or h*be, after all.

I never called him a k*ke or h*be, after all.

Even if you had, I'm sure he would have forgiven you, he's a very forgiving man. Just look at the way he's forgiven the commies who ordered him to be repeatedly locked up for years at a time just for wanting Poland to be free. He's even forgiven people who clearly can't forgive themselves, such as Chairman Kaczynski, who volunteered to prosecute dissidents after Mr Michnik had been locked up for years. I expect he'd even forgive a turn-coat shill who betrayed two countries by serving the commie regime that set him up in a nice villa close to the one that Chairman Kaczynski's father was given despite having been an officer in the anti-commie AK, although it's doubtful he'd have forgiven such a person to the extent of letting him ever write for Poland's best selling newspaper.

To save time and effort why not abbreviate your perpetually repeated Hairy Bollocks statement to VTPD. That way you'll have more time to fabricate your Hairy Bollocks insinuations and outirght lies.

BTW by not typing That Cat Michnik and That Cat Kaczyński are you implying they are not men?

Another lie of Harold. GW is not best selling newspaper in Poland.

One of the best Polish comedians, Jerzy Kryszak is taking the p1ss out of Szechter aka Michnik. From 2:18, hilarious.

Adam Michnik

Move over Pislamic, this is a new low which even the forum's LL has yet to outdo. At least no-one recalls him lying about his parents vital statistics. In an interview for Der Spiegel, Michnik said of himself: "As someone whose parents died in the Holocaust..." Such bald-faced hutzpa really takes the biscuit and exceeds even his normal daily output of lies and fabrications.

Hinde (later rebadged to Helena) Michnik died in 1969; Stalinist stooge Comrade Szechter lived till 1982.

In an interview for Der Spiegel, Michnik said of himself: "As someone whose parents died in the Holocaust..."

Yet again our 'Polish' friend either illustrates the perils of repeating as fact everything he hears on Radio Maybach or just thinks he can slip out another of the Party-approved whoppers of the kind which used to make the readers of the Western Pennsylvania Polish Pig Farmers' Quarterly think that all members of Solidarnosc were bandits who stole from the poor while the brave forces of the PZPR heroically tried to restore order and wipe the tears from the faces of children. The reality is that Michnik didn't say that. The words 'Polish' Po has posted are an English translation of a Polish translation of what was purported to be a German translation of an interview conducted in Polish. As one might expect with all that translation, not everything was translated correctly. Michnik actually said that he lost family members in the holocaust, as Der Spiegel made clear: twitter.com/marekjuskiewicz/status/787593043797041152

Such bald-faced hutzpa really takes the biscuit and exceeds even his normal daily output of lies and fabrications.

Care to quote a few of his supposed lies? Or why don't we play a game? You post a lie that he's told and then I'll post one that you are have told. Let's see who runs out first. Actually, why don't I start? I'll start with your whopper about the EU planning to forcibly micro-chip Polish babies. Your turn.

Or is the reality that Michnik doesn't have any output of lies and fabrications and the actual source of your hatred for him is his very high standards as to who does and does not write for his publications?

You call him the greatest polish citizen alive, many call him the greatest polish traitor alive.

Everyone lies Harry. Pis po cnn fox reps democrats it makes little difference.. Nonetheless at the end of the day adas is just another council of foreign relations globalist neo-commie who thinks he knows what's best for the world and especially poland. Im all for meaningful debate but the guy seems to have a boner for putting down polish people and the church (which yes like any religion has had its issues, but of course he'll never dare to write about sexual abuse taking place in yeshivas or the organ trafficking money laundering rabbis) while celebrating communists like jaruzelski who caused tons of suffering for everyday poles during the stan wojenny. Why anyone whos lived during those times would have any respect for michnik when he tries to clear jaruzelskis name and deeds is beyond me. The guy has no shame he went to lech Kaczynski asking for some sort of pardons for commies just to write negative articles about the kaczynskis later. Zero sense of honor, loyalty or even friendship. Zero sense of patriotism. All he knows is how to do is covertly spread cfr policies through his influence. This she incident with lech too is just a notch is his belt of the commie whitewashing attempts since the 90s and he's been at it ever since. Everyone in poland knows he's a two timing back stabbing Zionist who will say all the worst things about poles and the church but not one single word of critism against the apartheid supremacist regime of Israel or his cfr handlers. In his words the Palestinians plight is a 'non issue.' Polish people stupidly read his papers since its one of the largest if not the largest media outlet but they know damn well what he's all about.. The majority of poles are sick of that stuttering traitor but why they keep on reading gw and affiliated publications is beyond me. I don't expect you to understand where I'm coming from but as someone who's family lived under jaruzelski and someone who's loyalty lies to poland and the church I simply can't respect michnik. Hell ill take korwin komorowski and even kopacz over michnik any day.

I actually don't mind wyborcza all that much as they have some decent articles that are fairly objective for a more left leaning paper. However the anti polish anti church articles cannot be ignored. Michniks whole personal goal seems to be to mingle with other elitist internstionalists who want to turn poland (and any other resistance to them like Hungary) into even more of a us/eu vassal state with no sovereignty where neo commie elites (of whom a significant portion are also Zionists like michnik and condemn poland for not following some eu agreement while never holding Israel accountable for its innumerable un violations) hold all the power and anyone and can simply erase Poland's sovereignty by telling us what laws we should pass, who we should accept in our country, etc. That's what the cfr is all about on an international level and he's no different.

He's certainly among them.

but of course he'll never dare to write about sexual abuse taking place in yeshivas or the organ trafficking money laundering rabbis)

I seriously doubt that either of these things is occurring in Poland.

I actually don't mind wyborcza all that much as they have some decent articles that are fairly objective for a more left leaning paper.

It's actually more a centrist paper, part of that very longstanding tradition in Poland, and a very popular national newspaper.

@jon357

He is certainly one of the most honored and awarded poles I won't dispute that. Also like I said I do believe that gw is the most popular paper. That's not rly saying much as newspapers have been in decline for decades. Perhaps by us standards yes it is a centrist paper but firmly left/center left by polish standards. He has tons of awards, honorary doctorates, order medals, etc. I am not saying that he is stupid - far from it. I am pointing out his lack of patriotism and loyalty to ones country, lack of honor, and his hypocrisy. Although the patriotism can be disregarded since typically most leftists don't have much patriotism for their country. That's fine just different ideologies.

Its just a matter of different ideas - some view trump as good some do not. That's the beauty of debate and society. You may view him as a great but most poles who's families lived under jaruzelski cannot. Same with much of the youth. They view michnik as a traitor who's been on a crusade to whitewash the deeds of commies, esp jaruzelski kiszczak and co., as early as the 90s while abandoning his friends and colleagues like walesa along the way. That fact cannot be disputed. These men should have been tried in a polish court but michnik did everything possible for that not to happen. We all know he tried to influence lech Kaczynski not to being jaruzelski to trial. Michnik is and always has been a communist - the only time he was a dissident is because they started going after Zionists and to him Zionism trumped communism. Otherwise he would ve not cared what the government did to zionists and would ve continued being a loyal commie.

Whether abuse takes place in yeshivas in poland or not isn't the issue. Im pretty sure its minimal though. His paper regularly discusses affairs outside of poland. I am merely pointing out that he'll be quick to criticise some priest in the us, australia, vatican, etc over sexual abuse. However he will never criticise a rabbi doing the same things regardless of geography. He can write about priest abuse in the us but why not rabbis? He can criticise poland for not accepting refugees, but why not Israel? He writes about how Syrians and others are in such dire straights but his exact words when interviewed and asked of his opinion of the Israel-palestine conflict said 'its a non issue'. This hypocrisy cannot be denied.

Like I said, the man knows also nothing about loyalty, patriotism, or even honor. I can understand his left wing pro commie ideology leaves him little room for patriotism to poland but what about loyalty to his friends and colleagues, especially lech, that helped him out? He begged lech laczynski for statutory abolition to protect jaruzelski and co... Only to continue to write negative articles about the kaczczynskis. He pulled a similar back stab with lech walesa - for a few years he polished lechs boots with his tongue then he got his wyborcza off the ground, thanks to lech walesa, but yet supported mazowoecki in elections in a total backstab... Despite the fact that lech walesa helped michnik -

lecb basically told michnik to establish wyborcza only for gw to be used against walesa .. Then when michnik realized mazowiecki had no chance of winning he used his wyborcza to celebrate walesa. He even went as far as to make up lies that tyminski was an sb agent even though the guys from Canada -

clearly a total lie which wasn't retracted till after elections.

Like I said the man knows nothing of loyalty to ones friends, nothing about honor, and he'll use the media only for own goals and ideology - sucking up to political adversaries to protect his communist martial law criminal friends then throwing a hissy fit when he didn't get his way. This is of course after using his newspaper against the very man who he advised for years and worked alongside and helped him found gw (or at least gave him the blessing to do so), walesa, then sucking back up to him only when realizing mazo had no chance. These are all indisputable facts. The only people he hasn't backstabbed were other Zionists like kuron and gross who he's known since at least the 60s. Not to mention his selective criticisms of poland - he'll criticize priests but never rabbis, he'll criticize Poland's migrant policies, but never israels, he'll shed tears for Syrians but Palestinians are a 'non issue'

He may be one of the most decorated and honored poles receiving all these awards orders and honorary degrees from netherlands, Germany, and France but none that I know of from poland. That's because most poles know he is a backstabbing treacherous commie white washing globalist cfr member who will never criticise israel or zionism but is overly critical of poland and Poland's church. Thankfully he's in his 70s so my children will be able to grow up in a michnik free poland. Although to my understanding he doesn't even live in poland and hasn't for years. He's a resident of NYC.

Im willing to bet Jon that you didn't live during stan wojenny and your parents and grandparents didn't either. I could be wrong of course. However in general people who did live during those times recall the tanks in the streets, the food shortages, the thefts and corruption by government officials, and the suffering of common people. Those same people would never want to whitewash the communists deeds esp jaruzelski and protect them from having to answer to charges committed during that time. Why michnik has been working for over 25 years to protect the communists is beyond me. It could be a tradition in his family though to screw over polish people - after all his brother stefan michnik ordered the deaths of countless poles including ak officers.

So no jon, a family who's killed ak members and polish people, whitewashed communist deeds and protected them from trial, backstabs his friends only to come back and support them depending on what's convenient, overly criticizes poland and the church while never even uttering the smallest criticism of israel, among many other deeds can never be thought of as a great pole. Maybe in other parts of the world but not in poland to the average pole. The only reason why he even was able to do all the things he has is thanks to lech walesa who gave him the blessing to establish wyborcza which of course is the oldest port prl newspaper and most popular. With readership declining and more people getting their news elsewhere, so has michniks clout. He knows this too that's why he took a more passive role in gw and went back to politics. Most notably becoming a cfr member - one of the most hated globalist elitist half zionist pro one socialist world groups in existence. No wonder he fits right in.

He's still Poland's foremost independent journalist, someone who was jailed as an anti-communist dissident, and despite every effort of the current authoritarian regime, someone on whom there is no dirt.

Probably the foremost secular and non-political public figure in Poland, and has been for many years.

@jon357

He's one of thousands and thousands that were jailed during prl times- so was macierewicz. I wonder if his brother stefan wouldve treated him so kindly if rhey were separated at birth to only give him a few years in prison rather than executing him like he did polish ak heroes.

Macierewicz and michnik actually knew each other and were in the same circles. The reason why michnik was jailed as a student is because of his pro Israel stance which was unpopular at the time in Soviet states which viewed Israel as the aggressor in 67 along with his revisionist Marxist views which called for more democracy and less cenroship. Perhaps the emigration of his father to Israel in the 50s made him even more vocal. When he was jailed in the 80s it was because of his affiliations with kor and solidarnosc.

Also lets clear something up - he was a dissident to the communist regime of poland not communism, socialism, Marxism Leninism as a whole etc. He sought to liberalize the system but not do away with it. To this day he supports not prosecuting the prl leaders. As students Michnik along with kuron modzelewski and a few others, many of whom were zionists, were part of a group called the commandos. The commandos sought to turn prl to a sort of Marxist Leninist ideology with more free press, democratic rights, etc. They never called for the total abolition or downfall of the prl system though. In that sense the anti communist dissident label imo is flawed. The commandos even put together their ideologies into a work called 'the revisionist manifesto' which discussed revisionist Marxism. Michnik was certainly a dissident to the bureaucratic somewhat bourgeoisie prl leadership but not to Marxism-Leninism/socialism/communism as a general ideology.

When he put in jail in the 80s its because he was a part of kor/solidarnosc and more specifically because of the strikes he helped organized. Michnik used that group as well as people like walesa and the lessons zionist slominski taught him (coward who fled poland during ww2) to launch a publishing house which was his lifelong dream as he had always been a writer, editor, etc. Kor and solidarnosc gave him the tools and audience in a way that the commandos never could. Even when it was underground it made a killing. Of course the prl heads knew all about it. Im sure he bribed them or had some sort of agreement otherwise they would have shut him down. The reason why I say that is because keep in mind when he was jailed in the 80s it wasn't because of his publications which were somewhat tolerated by prl but rather for inciting strikes.

You are right though - no dirt in terms of bribery, corruption, etc yes ill agree with that. In fact he turned down a rather significant bribe which I give him props for. That doesn't change the fact that he's attempted to whitewash the deeds of communists ever since the 90s even asking pis for help at one point, either supported or backstabbed walesa and his friends and colleagues - depending on what was convenient at the time, overly criticizes poland and the church while never ever criticising israel.

I respect the guy Jon for his accomplishments I really do. Id be lucky to get a quarter of the awards and honors he has let alone form such a large company. However, I do not respect him as a person due to his treachery, lack of patriotism for the country he's from, the communist whitewashing esp jaruzelski under whom much of my family esp the rural workers and older people suffered and would love to see face justice, and even though much of the journalism his house produces is decent, many feel it is biased against poland and the church and overly critical of policies that many other countries have adopted as well, such as Israel with its stance towards migrants/refugees, which neither michnik nor gw will ever criticize. Same with Syrians - they're so poor and downtrodden but the palestians are a non issue in michniks eyes. That seems very one sided and biased to me. Of course not all his publications are like that but it seems he more often criticises poland and the church rather than praising even the small good deeds while not criticising po, israel, etc. If you're going to criticise a country or government for being unfair in your eyes towards refugees, you can't criticise one country while not criticising another with nearly the exact same policies.

Also I wouldn't say gw or michnik are independent. No they're not owned by a party but they definitely lean way more towards po. Furthermore there's been many many times that gw has been used as a political instrument I.e. like the election I mentioned earlier where gw supported mazo, was against walesa, then was pro walesa and against tymski or whatever his name was.

I do agree with your last sentence though. As far as polish journalists writers editors etc he's by far the most recognized and awarded. Notice though that all his awards are foreign and not polish. Usually such decorated writers have at least one award or honorary degree from their home country. It appears michnik does not. Perhaps this tells you that despite gws popularity michnik is a very polarizing figure in poland.
Dirk diggler 10 | 4,585
30 Jun 2017 #299
Another thing I kind of find ironic is that while michnik is lauded by many people in po, kod and even more so abroad... His brother has a Europe wide warrant for killing the most heroic patriotic poles in existence. Sweden refuses to give him up though.

Like the other communists that Adam michnik defends, his murderous brother is no different.

You must be joking! He is Poland's most biased, politicised newspaperman and that impairs his ability to provide balanced reporting. Its all one-sided, anti-PiS, pro-PiS-bashing.

Days before PiS won the election old bastard Szechter was warning about the "advent of fascism". What a turd!
