Firefighters in Poland say a small dog probably saved the life of a three-year-old who went missing from her home overnight in freezing temperatures.

The child, Julia, vanished on Friday and was found lying in marshes several kilometres from her house on Saturday morning, with the dog by her side.

That's a heartwarming story. Dogs are clever animals.

That is why dogs are the most important friend to have in your home.. along with cats :)

I bet this dog gets king treatment from now on.. at least he should after such a wonderful thing he did saving that childs life.

The reality of this is, this wondeful little pooch was just doing what his instincts tell him, to protect so hes not really expecting to much , just a pat on the head or a steak bone to knaw on.. the cute little boy. aww precious.

The dog is a hero indeed.

The story doesn't mention if the dog belonged to Julia's family, or whether he was stray. I can't comprehend the idea of parents letting a three-year-old play with a stray dog. The general act could be an accident in the making.

Other reports describe him as the family's own dog.
